Terms of the profession electrician for repair and maintenance. Electrician for the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment. Professionally important qualities

The profession of an electrician arose at the end of the 19th century. The appearance of the first power plants led to the need to control expensive equipment and complex transformations. For the first time, this new kind of activity was launched in England and the USA; subsequently, light bulbs appeared in tsarist Russia. The first electricians instantly gained popularity. At that time, very little was known about the principles of operation of electrical installations, and no one knew how to use electricity. Therefore, installing equipment in the homes of aristocrats, electricians also performed the role of professional consultants. Gradually, the scope of duties of these specialists expanded, and the tasks to be performed became more complicated, and such professions as an electrical engineer, electrician, electrical fitter, etc. appeared.

Career

The profession of an electrician is one of the most demanded in the labor market. In the profession of an electrician, you can improve your skills, which may result in, for example, admission to the maintenance of electrical equipment that is under higher voltage. Skilled electricians can perform complex work requiring high levels. In total, electricians have 6 categories, indicating the level of qualification, and 5 electrical safety tolerance groups. The number of the group depends on the length of service, level of education and available skills. Group I is received by personnel who work not with electricity, but in the vicinity of potentially dangerous devices. Groups II and III allow you to handle electrical installations with voltages up to 1000 V. so-called electrical personnel. A novice electrician can only count on group II. IV and V groups must be with electrical engineers, site managers, etc. Within the profession of an electrician, there is an opportunity for career growth: electrician, senior electrician, foreman. Further professional development and obtaining higher education an electrical engineer opens up prospects for leadership positions.

Nowadays, electrical equipment is used everywhere. It not only helps us in work and in life, but quite often also takes over the full performance of certain functions. But sooner or later, any equipment fails and then it needs repair. This is where the electrician comes into play.

The main task of a person working as an electrician is the timely repair and maintenance of electrical equipment.

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of this profession. Any production that uses electrical equipment without an electrician will not function for a long time and will be forced to stop its activities.

Electrician career path

An electrician, in addition to an administrative promotion (electrician, senior electrician, foreman, technician, and so on), also has the opportunity to increase his rank, which in turn leads to an increase in wages.

With an increase in the category, the duties of a specialist also change, for example, electricians of the second and third category can carry out simple repairs to electrical wiring, wash parts, clean contacts, etc.

Workers who have ranks above the third are already coping with more complex tasks, for example, repairing an electric motor.

The demand for the profession of an electrician

This profession is in high demand. Finding a good electrician who knows his job well is not easy, but almost every organization needs him.

Today, working professions are trying to create as much as possible comfortable conditions workers, for professions such as electricians, raise wages and provide free training and advanced training opportunities.

Pros and cons of being an electrician

So, the advantages of this profession include the following:

  • high demand;
  • decent salary;
  • career opportunities;
  • the importance of the profession.

The disadvantages are not high prestige and a high risk to the life of an electrician, because working with electricity implies danger, but if safety rules are observed at work, the threat to the worker's life is minimized.

Training as an electrician can take place in educational institutions ranging from vocational schools to universities

It has been said more than once that the organization of a comfortable life today is inextricably linked with the use of a variety of electrical appliances. Therefore, it is not surprising that the services of specialists whose work is related to the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical equipment are very popular, both among the population and in the industrial and production sector. These experts include representatives professions of an electrician.

It should be noted that the uninitiated layman, as a rule, does not see the difference between an electrician, electrician or electrician. Any specialist working with electricity and electrical engineering is simply called an electrician. And this is wrong, since an electrician, an electrician, and an electrician are different professions, whose representatives have their own duties, due to the specifics of the work. You can learn about what electricians or electricians do in our articles on these professions. And today we will talk about the features of the work of an electrician, and tell you what personal qualities you need to have in order to become a real professional.

Who is an electrician?

A qualified specialist engaged in the repair and general maintenance of electrical equipment and electrical appliances (including ventilation and air conditioning systems) during their operation.

The name of the profession comes from the Latin ἤλεκτρον (amber, shiny metal) and the French monteur (editor). That is, in fact, these specialists edit (correct) the operation of electrical equipment, achieving maximum efficiency and durability of electrical engineering. The emergence and development of the profession became possible thanks to the technical genius of Nikola Tesla, an outstanding inventor and electrical engineer, whom his contemporaries-biographers call only "the patron saint of electricity."

Let's say right away that for almost a hundred years of its existence, the profession has not changed much: as before, electricians control the operation of electrical equipment, and, as necessary, produce Maintenance within their qualifications. Unless the list of equipment under their control has noticeably expanded, and the professional knowledge of specialists has become much more versatile than 100 years ago.

If we talk about duties of an electrician more specifically, modern specialists perform such work as:

  • ensuring the uninterrupted operation of equipment (including diagnostics of mechanical and electrical circuits, elimination of identified malfunctions, preventive washing of parts and cleaning of contacts);
  • study of the working conditions of electrical engineering in order to identify the causes of premature wear and take measures to eliminate them;
  • briefing for persons who directly work with electrical appliances on the rules of operation and safety;
  • participation in the installation and installation of electrical equipment;
  • preparation of applications for the purchase of spare parts and special tools;
  • development and implementation of progressive methods of maintenance of controlled devices.

What personal qualities should an electrician have?

The work of an electrician, as well as the activities of representatives of all "electric" professions, is quite dangerous. After all, a specialist not only runs the risk of getting an electric shock every day, but also very often performs his duties in rather unfavorable and cramped conditions. Therefore, the requirements for these specialists are very high. In particular, an electrician must be physically strong, hardy and have such personal qualities as:

Since not only comfort, but also the safety of our lives depends on electricians (imagine what happens if electrical equipment fails, for example, in a hospital, at the time of a complex operation), high professional requirements are also imposed on specialists. A true professional must have real knowledge in the field of physics, chemistry, electromechanics, general energy, power generation, power supply, electronics, metrology, information and measurement technology, etc.

Benefits of being an electrician

It is not difficult to guess that the most significant advantage of the profession of an electrician is demand. Such specialists are needed always and everywhere, regardless of whether it is the private sector or an industrial production complex. Accordingly, it is quite easy for young professionals to get a job that will bring not only pleasure, but also benefit to people.

Attracts in this profession not only the possibility of easy employment, but also quite a decent level of payment. To date, the average monthly salary of electricians in Russia is about 30-40 thousand rubles. In addition, a good specialist has the opportunity to earn additional income by providing services privately. And truly talented and enterprising electricians can even start their own specialized services company.

Another advantage of the profession of an electrician can be safely called the hassle-free education, since the relevant educational establishments are available in almost every city and it is quite easy to enter them.

Disadvantages of being an electrician

Speaking of disadvantages of the profession of an electrician First of all, it is necessary to mention the stressful and unsafe working conditions for human life. Not only can any careless movement cost, if not life, then health, but troubleshooting is often necessary in a state of stressful tension, when every minute counts.

Despite this, electricians, as a rule, work in shifts (that is, according to a fixed work schedule), in the event of an accident or an emergency situation, specialists have to go to work. In other words, even if the electrician has a day off, he must be mentally prepared for the fact that he can be called to work at any time.

Well, and most importantly, the profession of an electrician belongs to those specialties where one diploma cannot be dispensed with. Therefore, training should be taken very, very seriously. After all, even one missed tape or unlearned topic can subsequently cause death of people.

The social significance of the profession in society.

The modern world cannot be imagined without electricity. The failure of one electrical substation for half a day can literally paralyze the city.
Many Muscovites remember May 25, 2005, when an accident occurred at the Chagino substation and a rolling blackout occurred.
Chagino is only one of several Moscow substations, so only part of Moscow turned out to be de-energized, but this also hit people hard. Computers, televisions, electric stoves instantly stopped working, elevators stopped in the houses and the water supply dried up. And soon transport collapse was added to this.
Of the 170 operating metro stations, 52 were de-energized, and dozens of trains got stuck in the tunnels. Even having got to the surface, people could not go anywhere: traffic lights, trolleybuses and trams did not work.
Alarmed people tried to call each other, but this was not always successful: some mobile base stations were de-energized, and the rest could not cope with the increased number of calls.
Yes, and landline phones were mostly useless, because most modern Muscovites use modern electronic devices that cannot work without electricity.
On that day Muscovites looked around with new eyes. On the one hand, they clearly felt the vulnerability of the urban way of life with its centralized infrastructure. On the other hand, they realized that being modern man almost entirely dependent on electricity. Electricity is the blood of modern civilization.

History reference

We are used to the fact that with one movement of the hand we turn on the light, any electric heater. To work with this complex equipment, they train workers - electricians and electricians. The profession of an electrician is suitable for those who want to realize the dream of a real male job, who are interested in the creative nature of work. "Let there be light!" - these words, according to the Old Testament, were the first to be spoken by God. That is why electricians jokingly call their profession the first on Earth.

In 1878, the English scientist Joseph Swan (1828-1914) invented the electric light bulb. It was a glass flask, inside of which there was an electric filament, so that the filament would not burn out, Swan removed the air from the flask. AT next year the famous American inventor Thomas Edison (1847-1931) also invented the light bulb. After experimenting with threads of various substances, he settled on charred bamboo fibers. In 1880, Edison launched safety light bulbs, selling them for $2.50. Subsequently, Edison and Swan formed a joint company, the Edison and Swan United Electric Light Company.

Much in the history of electrical engineering is associated with the name of T. Edison. He is the author of about 1000 inventions in the field of electrical engineering. Edison improved the incandescent lamp, built the world's first public power station (1882). In 1880, the French physicist M. Despres announced the possibility of transmitting electricity through wires. He also built the first transmission line.

At the end of the 19th century, there was a rapid development of electrical engineering. Scientists continue to work on the problem of using electricity for lighting and other needs. The famous "electric candle" P. N. Yablochkov was the first current consumer. To conduct wires and cables, people were needed who would understand electricity. This is how the profession of an electrician was born. However, with the advent of more and more different electrical appliances, the complication of electrical engineering, the profession branches into many specialties: an electrician, an electrician for equipment repair (depending on specialization), an electrician, an electrical technician, an electrician, etc. Today, there are several dozen electrician specialties.

The development of the Russian economy is based on electricity. It makes no sense to list industries and enterprises that would do without electricity. They simply don't exist. This means that none of them will be able to work without electricians of electrical networks and electrical equipment. It depends on the electricians in what condition the air and cable lines, and it is they who are the first to rush to the rescue where various accidents and cliffs occur. High quality The work of specialists depends on their ability to correctly and quickly connect individual sections of the chain into an integral organism.

Activity content

The work of an electrician is varied, he must perform disassembly, medium repairs, assembly and alignment of electrical machines and apparatus, perform installation, repair and maintenance of lighting circuits, electrical equipment, and mark the cable. A graduate of this specialty should know and be able to do a lot. It is necessary to have a solid knowledge of the basics of such sciences as electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, drawing. The electrician must know the purpose of the device and the principle of operation of electric motors of direct and alternating current, transformers of electrical equipment. The profession of an electrician is one of the most important and promising in our country. The safety and efficiency of all industries, private companies, offices, and residential facilities largely depend on the uninterrupted operation of electrical equipment.

Under his supervision are power and lighting electrical installations, transformer substations, electrical measuring instruments. It detects and eliminates faults in power and lighting networks, as well as electric motors and electrical circuits of process equipment. It installs and switches on electrical measuring instruments and meters, disassembles, repairs and assembles components and parts of electric motors, electrical appliances, electrical appliances, transformers, installs lighting, replaces and installs complex supports, checks and measures the insulation resistance of windings, carries out locksmith and assembly work of high-voltage electric machines. voltage.

Requirements for the knowledge and skills of a specialist

An electrician must have basic knowledge of physics, mathematics, mechanics, drawing, be able to read diagrams and drawings, apply formulas.
He must also know the device and specifications devices that serves, own the methodology of diagnostics and repair.
An electrician must know safety precautions and be able to provide first aid in case of electric shock and other injuries.

Requirements to individual characteristics specialist

When applying for a job, they will first of all evaluate the physical form, endurance and developed sense of balance of the future electrician. These qualities are necessary in hazardous working conditions (altitude, outdoor work and at any time of the day). The specificity of their activity requires flexibility, coordination of movements of the hands and fingers, good vision and color discrimination, a high level of development of figurative and visual-effective thinking. It is not uncommon for a specialist in this field to encounter emergency situations where it is necessary to make quick and effective decisions.

Diseases of the musculoskeletal system, eyes, nervous system are considered contraindications.

Working conditions

They may vary depending on the object being mounted. If this is construction, then the installation and installation of electrical systems will be carried out in the open air or in an unfinished building. If industrial equipment is being installed, then the specialist works in a workshop or production laboratory.

Dangerous profession.

Working with high voltage is dangerous, but an electrician is responsible not only for his own life, but also for the safety of users of the equipment that he installs or repairs.

However, electric shock is not the only danger to which an electrician is exposed. Often electricians have to work at high altitudes, and this also requires special care.

Employment
An electrician can work in production, in a construction company, in transport enterprises (metro, tram, trolleybus), in the housing and communal services sector, etc., as well as in office centers, large stores, institutes, schools, etc. there are also electricians who service the internal electrical networks.

Fields of application of the profession

The duties of an electrician differ depending on the category of specialist. Electrician 2-3 category washes the parts, cleans the contacts. Specialists of the 4-5th category are engaged in more complex, responsible work. They carry out diagnostics in mechanical and electrical diagrams devices, devices, if necessary, troubleshoot. Drawing up drawings and sketches is also in their competence. The profession is divided into more than 30 specialties, duties depend on the specifics of specific areas and types of production.

Disassembly and assembly, adjustment and repair, maintenance of various devices, devices, circuits, instruments, assemblies are functions common to all electricians.

Career prospects

In total, electricians have six categories and five electrical safety tolerance groups.

The ranks indicate the level of knowledge of their profession, which determines the work of what complexity can be entrusted to this specialist. The tolerance group of an electrician is also of no small importance: it indicates the work of what degree of danger and responsibility the employer can entrust to an employee of such a profession.

There is also the possibility of administrative promotion (electrician, senior electrician, foreman, technician). In the future, it is possible to organize a private business. It's about about a workshop for the repair of electrical equipment and other equipment.

professional holiday

Power Engineer's Day is a professional holiday for all workers in the industry, covering the generation, transmission and sale of electrical and thermal energy to consumers, which they celebrate on December 22, one of the shortest daylight hours of the year.
The history of this holiday dates back to May 23, 1966, when the Power Engineer's Day was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in memory of the day the State Plan for Electrification of Russia (GOELRO) was adopted. The GOELRO plan was adopted at the VIII All-Russian Congress of Soviets, held on December 22, 1920.

We rarely think about what a huge role electricity plays in our lives, and who, through their work, provides us with the opportunity to use the elevator or turn on a banal light bulb. About what a “simple electrician” does, the complexities of the profession and career prospects - in a conversation with Alexander Martynov, an electrician for the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment.

Alexander Martynov, electrician

I am a technician by training. After school, he graduated from college with a degree in Automated Information Processing and Control Systems. He worked as a maintenance specialist, in the maintenance of document management systems. At that time - 2007-2010. - the demand for specialists in this field was significantly lower than the supply, and the average income was about 23,000-27,000 rubles. I began to think about changing my profession.

Where do they teach

So school course I had good basic theoretical and practical skills in electrical, and I decided to try myself in this business. Enrolled in an accelerated vocational training course. The price of training in 2012 was 12,000 rubles. The form of training is full-time, 2-3 times a week, 2 pairs. From October to January, they read the theoretical part to us, in February-March we had an internship at manufacturing enterprises. At the end of the internship, the company issued a report card on its completion and a description.

In addition, it was necessary to pass a theory exam. After successfully passing the exam, I received a certificate of completion of professional training courses with the qualification "Electrician for the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment of the 2nd category."

About "painful": there is no such thing as an electrician, it's like calling a dentist a "dentist". An electrician is engaged in maintenance, an electrician is engaged in construction. If you graduate from a construction college, the diploma will say “electrician”. But at the same time, electricians are taken to work as electricians and vice versa.

discharge current

Electricians have 6 categories, confirming the level of qualification. The category shows what kind of work a specialist can perform. Once a year, the enterprise must conduct certification, and its results must be confirmed by a certificate or an entry in the work book. In practice, rare employers do all this. This is due to staff turnover: it is not profitable for the company to deal with employees who, perhaps, will no longer work in a couple of months.

Increasing the category implies an increase in salary, but its size is so small that specialists, as a rule, do not strive for an increase, especially since in practice an electrician of the 2nd category can have a much higher qualification.

In addition to the categories, there are 5 electrical safety tolerance groups. The group number shows in which electrical installations the master can work, with what voltage (up to 1000 V, over 1000 V), what work he can do himself, and which one - under the supervision of a specialist with a higher group.

After completing professional training courses, an admission group is not assigned automatically. And without it, you can work only under supervision. Therefore, it is possible to get a job without an admission group if the enterprise is ready to conduct certification. In practice, this is not common, since few people want to immediately invest in a new employee. Another way is to pass certification for the admission group at specialized training centers that have the appropriate certificate. I passed the certification at the training center "Center for Operational Vocational Training" and received the 3rd group of admission, which gives me the right to work with voltage in the mains up to 1000 V.

There are two professional paths for an electrician: construction and maintenance.

At the construction site

An electrician at a construction site is engaged in the installation of electrical wiring for residential, common house and engineering premises, the installation of appropriate electrical equipment and its connection.

The income level of electricians in residential construction is quite high: the average salary is 45,000-60,000 rubles with a 5-day working week and an 8-hour working day. Additional work is paid separately.

There are also opportunities for career growth: if a specialist works well, he can get promoted and become a foreman, and then, perhaps, a foreman, foreman, head of the site. Here, however, there is also the other side of the coin: in our company, the foreman was paid extra only 2,000 rubles, while he was responsible for 10 people under his command, for power tools and the consumption of materials.

The disadvantages of working in construction turned out to be much more.

First, these are difficult working conditions. Work in unheated rooms in any weather. Great physical load: it is clear that an electrician at a construction site does not sit in a chair, and even at some objects there are no cargo electric lifts, and some materials, say, cables or power tools, have to be carried manually.

Secondly, the poor organization of the workflow: the most common situation is the delay in the supply of materials. In this case, the deadlines for the delivery of works must be observed. As a result, some work had to be done during extra hours. These hours were paid, but not as overtime (twice as much), but simply as regular hours of work.

Thirdly, the lack of tools, because they were purchased in insufficient quantities and of inadequate quality. Hand tools were more often used personal. Mine cost me about $3,000.

Fourthly, bad (and sometimes very bad) living conditions. There is such a necessary thing for work as a household town. These are spaces where workers can cook or warm up food, change clothes, take a shower, or simply relax during their lunch break. At many sites, such a town will not be equipped immediately. Once we had to wait a whole year!

I worked in construction for three years, and yet decided to change the field of activity. I wanted more acceptable working conditions, although I understood that, most likely, I would lose in earnings.

Jobs in the service industry

Now I work as an electrician on duty in a hotel complex, I am engaged in the maintenance of electrical facilities. It's nice that the employer here fully provides the tool, and its quality corresponds to the tasks.
Working hours in three days. My responsibilities include the replacement and repair of the final electrical equipment - sockets, lamps, lamps, and so on - and control over energy consumption - switching on and off lighting in the corridors and on the floors. There is a day shift of electricians, but they are engaged in planned work, while I work as an operational duty officer when something urgently needs to be repaired or corrected. I work alone at night.

This work is less difficult and exhausting than at a construction site. On average, 18-20 applications are received on a weekday, and 8-10 applications on a weekend. But, as with any job, there are difficult days when you have to complete up to 30 requests.

There are good living conditions here, which is very important for me, there is a rest room, a shower, an equipped room for eating. You can also go to the dining room for lunch: a set lunch for employees costs 200 rubles.
To some of the difficulties, I would include the need to be in constant readiness, including at night: the working day is irregular and there are no, for example, official hours for the lunch break. But in practice this is not a problem.

The main disadvantage of such work is the level of salary and the lack of opportunities for career growth. Salary - 27,000 rubles, this is a constant fixed amount. True, there is also a monthly bonus that is allocated to the department as a whole, but there are 40 people in the department, and the mechanism for its distribution is not clear.

For me, the advantage of such work is in a small physical activity and available free time. In other words, I don't get exhausted after work and I have time to do something else. I can take part-time jobs, and I still have time for personal affairs and for my family. In principle, such a schedule allows you to work somewhere else part-time.

Development plan

I would like to work in the field of electric power industry, for example, at electrical substations, thermal power substations. The scope of activities of power engineers includes the design and installation of electrical networks, control of their operation and repair in case of malfunctions. Unfortunately, it's not that easy. When I graduated from high school, I didn’t take the exam yet. In order to enter the first year of an institute or college now, you will first have to pass exams in the form of the Unified State Examination for the course of the school.

Another way is to get a job in an energy company where you can get training, since they have their own training plants. Of course, for this you need to establish yourself as a good and promising specialist. The level of income depends on the specialty and position held. Salaries in the initial positions for electricians of 2-3 categories are about 30,000 rubles. Energy engineers can receive 50,000-120,000 rubles.
