How to treat the site from ticks on your own: effective drugs

Insects are dangerous because they feed on blood and are carriers of serious diseases: Lyme, viral encephalitis, Q fever, monocytic ehrlichiosis. The most common type of tick is the ixodid. To protect yourself from them, it is recommended to periodically carry out disinfestation on the site with special means.

How to get rid of ticks

Insects are dangerous not only for their bites, but also because they are carriers of dangerous diseases. Ticks can live directly on the site or be brought there by rodents, animals. The increased danger is created in the territory close to the park or forest. There are several ways:

  1. Creation of unfavorable conditions for pests. It is necessary to mow the grass in a timely manner on the site, cut the branches of shrubs and the crowns of young trees so that they do not reach at least half a meter to the ground. The advantage of this method is that it is simple and does not involve the use of chemicals. Disadvantages: it is used only in the absence of an epidemic, pests can enter the area with animals.
  2. Treatment of the territory with special preparations. Means are issued in the form of solutions, checkers, powders, emulsions. On average, they last two months. The advantage of treatment with funds is very reliable protection, and the disadvantage is that the site needs to be treated regularly.
  3. Fight in folk ways. On the site you can plant repellent plants with a persistent pungent odor. The advantages of the method are its simplicity and the fact that it can be combined with both of the above. Disadvantages: relative effectiveness, it is better to use this method not to fight, but to prevent infection.

Site processing rules

The procedure must be carried out in compliance with safety regulations so as not to harm people, animals, and the environment. Processing is carried out with means based on a broad spectrum insecticide. The composition includes low- and medium-toxic components that do not pose a danger if you use the products in compliance with the following rules:

  1. It is important to understand that the treatment with acaricidal agents is not narrowly focused. The poison kills almost all insects that fall within its radius of action. Acaricide enters the body of pests by contact. The tool causes a malfunction of the nervous system in ticks, blocks the transmission of impulses. There is paralysis of the muscles and an early death. The maximum concentration of the drug is maintained for three days. Then the toxicity gradually decreases. The total validity period is 1-3 months.
  2. Make sure that animals do not run around the newly sprayed area for three days. They may experience allergic reactions in the form of skin irritation, stool disorders, increased salivation, vomiting, loss of appetite, and lacrimation. And in no case do not let the child walk around the site.
  3. Do not cultivate the garden yourself during the ripening season. If spraying has already passed, then harvest no earlier than three weeks later.
  4. You need to process the site yourself in overalls: a suit, glasses, rubber gloves, a respirator. If the product gets on the skin, an allergy will appear in the form of a rash, redness, itching. Do not allow the drug to enter the respiratory tract. This causes intoxication of varying severity. Contact your doctor if you experience dizziness, low blood pressure, nausea, heart palpitations, headache, diarrhea, chills, vomiting after treatment.
  5. Before starting disinfestation, be sure to read the instructions that come with the acaricide. Strictly observe the dosage and the rules indicated in the annotation.
  6. Anti-mite treatment is carried out using a spray bottle or a household spray bottle.
  7. Spray high grass and lawn, tree trunks and lower branches, shrubs up to 1.5 m high. Treat front doors and thresholds of buildings. Pay close attention to places along garden paths, recreation areas.
  8. Cultivate the garden and garden yourself in calm weather, warm and dry. The poison should not get into unwanted areas of the territory. Point the spray gun into the wind so that the spray does not fly in your direction. Process in the evening or early in the morning.
  9. Watch the weather. If precipitation falls during the first three days after treatment, the effectiveness of the product will decrease, so the procedure will have to be repeated 7-10 days after the rain.
  10. Try to treat the garden in early spring before the leaves are out. During this period, ticks are not yet active. The poison will not allow them to spread throughout the territory. Do not work the site during the flowering period of the trees. This is forbidden because it leads to the death of bees, other insects that pollinate plants.
  11. If there are ponds or wells on the site, make sure that the poison does not get into the water.
  12. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap after handling.

Destruction of ticks on the site by folk methods

Not only toxic chemicals will help you in pest control. Folk methods can enhance the effect of acaricides several times. To protect yourself from ticks, take the following steps:

  1. Create an unfavorable environment for ticks. Regularly put the territory in order: remove debris and dry growth, mow the grass, prevent the appearance of thickets, fight rodents.
  2. Plant tansy, wormwood and chamomile varieties on the site that contain a natural insecticide - pyrethrin. This will scare away the ticks, it will work as a preventive measure. Chamomiles such as Dalmatian, Caucasian, Persian are suitable.
  3. Try using a homemade spray mix. Mince a large head of garlic. Fill with two liters of water. Leave for a day. Add the same amount of water. Spray solution is ready. If you replace garlic with onion in this recipe, you will get an effective tree spray.
  4. To collect ticks (or make sure there are ticks in the area), take a piece of white waffle fabric about 1x1m, tie it to a stick to make something that looks like a flag. Saturate the material with water. Slowly drag the "flag" across the grass, barely touching. The pincers should catch on the fabric. Carefully remove them with tweezers and destroy. The procedure is best done in the morning, after the dew has disappeared.
