Rules of intimate life during pregnancy. Is it possible to engage in intimate life with my husband in the early and late stages during pregnancy? When can you have sex after an ectopic pregnancy?

Intimate life during pregnancy, of course, is of interest to many mothers, it is not only important, but also necessary. And this is a fact. Like it or not, sexual activity even stimulates and eliminates negativity.

Why You Shouldn't Have Sex During Pregnancy

  • If you find spotting and the doctor determines that there may be a threat of miscarriage. Then of course follow to refrain. Otherwise, frictions (movements during intercourse) can stimulate the uterus and lead it to activity, which will lead to even more bleeding. In this case, it is better to refrain from sexual activity.
  • Isthmic-cervical insufficiency. This is when your uterus is too relaxed and its cervix dilates in readiness to release the fetus. This requires surgery. In this case, the uterus is hemmed in the truest sense of the word, so that the baby could not leave ahead of time.
  • Multiple pregnancy. During the bearing of several children at once, the tone of the uterus is incredibly increased and doctors do not recommend having sex.
  • After all, with orgasm or even stimulation itself, pressure rises and various consequences are possible, up to premature birth, which is undesirable for multiple births.
  • If there was a rupture of the fetal bladder. In this process, there is already generic activity.
  • Infectious diseases. If you have been found to have infections, it is better to refrain from sexual intercourse. Not only can you infect a partner, you can also lose a child.
  • Thrush. When a woman's discharge is too abundant, white in color and smells of a sharp sour smell, this means that she has thrush. Do not forget that thrush is transmitted to a partner and can even excite chlamydia or ureaplasma.

Some live sexually for up to nine months, some lose their desire already if the tummy is visible - how many people, so many situations. But, doctors still recommend having sex (if there are no contraindications) to stimulate muscles, to improve blood circulation, so that a woman always has good mood and of course, in order to show how a man loves her, despite the fact that she has gained weight and has a rounded tummy.

Everyone knows that without sexual intimacy, a child cannot be conceived. However, with the onset of the long-awaited event, most parents have a question: is it possible to have sex during pregnancy?

Sex Do not be afraid of poses
Oral sex to be together Long-awaited sex
Intimacy after childbirth problems consultation

Someone argues that for this period it is better to refuse sexual intimacy: what can be sex if it lives inside little man? Others, on the contrary, without love comforts experience significant discomfort.

It is allowed if the gestation proceeds smoothly, without complications

Contraindications to intimacy

If the pregnancy proceeds without complications, there is no threat of miscarriage, then you can have sex while carrying a child almost until the very birth. If in the past not everything was smooth, or there were miscarriages and premature births, then sex during pregnancy is undesirable.

In the first three months, it is worthwhile to engage in “marriage games” with caution or completely abandon it. Also find out and.

It is better to refrain from sexual intimacy:

  • in the case of carrying several embryos, despite the general well-being of a woman, it is better to stop having sex from the 20th week: this is due to the fact that with multiple pregnancies there is a high risk of premature birth, and arousal can stimulate labor activity;
  • if there is a high tone of the uterus: then, regardless of the trimester " interesting position", sexual intimacy can cause uterine contractions, as well as premature birth;
  • if an ultrasound scan showed placenta previa, then blood may appear after sex during pregnancy: doctors advise not to use positions that provide deep penetration (the future mother is on top, the future father is behind);
  • if having sex led to bleeding or spotting, then it is better to refuse sexual intimacy before a visit to the gynecologist;
  • if a pregnant woman has previously had miscarriages, premature births, or there is a threat of interruption, it is better to refuse intimacy during the most dangerous periods: in this case the days of the expected menstruation are considered dangerous, in other words, every fourth week of the term, as well as the dates of the previous interruptions;
  • in the presence of sexually transmitted diseases, as well as in situations where conception occurred during the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases;
  • a month before the expected date of birth, all doctors advise avoiding sexual contact: this is due to the fact that during arousal, a woman produces oxytocin, a hormone that promotes uterine contraction, the same effect is exerted by prostaglandin - male hormone contained in semen, which is why intimacy before childbirth can provoke contractions (if the expectant mother, on the contrary, crosses her term, then doctors recommend stimulating labor with sexual caresses).

Why is there no desire?

All women have a different attitude to changes in their body: someone has a pregnancy without complications, someone experiences constant discomfort. This determines the attitude towards intimacy: some are ready to engage in it every day, others do not know if it is possible to have sex during pregnancy, so they avoid it in every possible way. Both positions are completely normal.

Do not be afraid of intimacy, orgasm does not cause real contractions!

We note right away that during intimacy, a man cannot harm the baby, because the embryo is reliably protected by amniotic fluid, the placenta and the uterus. That is why you can have sex during pregnancy.

Another thing is if the expectant mother feels discomfort caused by changes in her body:

  • the baby's head presses hard on the pelvis, the ligaments are stretched, which causes pain during sex;
  • the chest also becomes highly sensitive, so even gentle caressing movements can be unpleasant;
  • habitual positions for sex during pregnancy can also cause discomfort, because now there is a big tummy.

Thus, a woman begins to listen more to her desires, and not to the desires of her husband. Therefore, if during pregnancy you do not want intimacy, there should be no questions here.

However, it is worth noting that sexual desire in an “interesting position” can be unpredictable: if today it is completely absent, then tomorrow it can jump sharply. According to folk omens if a girl is expecting a boy, she has high sexuality, if a girl is very low or completely absent.

Only permitted items must be used

Also, many women shy away from intimacy due to the fact that they do not know if it is possible to make love during pregnancy, because there is an opinion that an orgasm can cause real contractions. However, it has recently been found that if the fetus, uterus and cervix are not ready for labor, contractions during orgasm will not affect the woman's condition.

Allowed and prohibited poses

No less popular is the question of all new parents who are expecting an addition, how can you have sex during pregnancy? Consider the most popular positions for sex and find out why they are dangerous during pregnancy.

  1. If the expectant mother lies on her back, a syndrome of compression of the vena cava may occur, as the growing uterus puts pressure on it. As a result, the woman and the baby develop oxygen starvation.
  2. The knee-elbow sex position presented in the video is also not entirely comfortable, as it puts a lot of stress on the lumbar region.
  3. You can’t have sex during pregnancy in the “woman on top” position, as this requires a lot of physical effort from the woman. Postures for sexual intercourse should be gentle, excluding pressure on the stomach.
  4. The best option is the position on the side - facing or back to the man, as well as sitting, at different levels - the expectant mother lies across the bed, at the very edge, and the partner kneels in front of her.
Oral and anal caresses

Oral excludes any injuries and deviations during gestation

It is very important to know the technique of sexual intimacy, which replaces sexual intercourse. This is most necessary in the first months of the “interesting situation”, when you need to satisfy your spouse without bringing the expectant mother to orgasm. This is because it is better not to overload the uterus with excess blood and not force it to contract at the peak of sexual intimacy.

The ideal option would be oral sex during pregnancy. No woman will be against such a manifestation of passion. If the spouses have succeeded in this field before the onset of an “interesting situation”, then no dissatisfaction and misunderstanding will arise, and oral sex during pregnancy will continue to be practiced.

But do not forget about the emotional state of a woman before oral sex during pregnancy. A man should support his wife, give her a joyful feeling of a “beautiful period”, and only on a positive note, if both parties want to engage in this kind of intimacy.

Many couples use anal sex during pregnancy to add variety to their intimate life. This is the only possible option sharing pleasure. However, not all future parents are wondering if it is possible to have anal sex during pregnancy.

  1. Some resort to this type of sexual pleasure only during the period of bearing a child, because it strongly resembles standard sexual intimacy.
  2. Moreover, the elasticity of tissues increases in a woman, so the introduction of the penis becomes almost painless.
  3. The expectant mother has a high sensitivity of hemorrhoids, which allows you to experience more pleasant sensations during anal sex during pregnancy.

However, this type of love joys is considered the most dangerous:

  • there is a high risk of introducing intestinal flora into the vagina, which is difficult to treat;
  • due to changes in blood circulation in the pelvis, an increase in hemorrhoids is observed, which can be injured and cause bleeding, and then the development of paraproctitis.

You need to remember all of the above, always use a condom, as well as special lubricants that will reduce the risk of possible infection and injury. Find out the whole truth about and.

Therefore, if you choose between these two types of intimacy, then it is better to give preference to the oral option, as it excludes any injuries and deviations during childbearing. The only moment is mutual desire, because if one of the spouses does not accept this option, then it is better to refuse it.

Thanks 10

Pregnancy brings changes in the life of not only women. In the relationship of the couple, a new stage in the relationship begins, caused by systematic changes in the female body. And among the mass of questions brewing at this time, there is one that is often embarrassing to ask: is it possible to have sexual contacts during this period?

The positive impact of intimate life on pregnant women

Having learned that she carries her unborn child under her heart, a woman experiences real metamorphoses deep inside herself. Habitual household chores, many hobbies and old habits fade into the background, but the desire to do everything to safely endure and give birth to a healthy baby comes forward. The expectant mother begins to read a lot about the period of gestation and childbirth, changes her diet and daily routine, discusses this or that topic with close women or on Internet forums. And the question of sexuality, of course, worries her no less than the future father of her child. There is an opinion that carnal pleasures at this time are dangerous, deep penetration can harm the fetus, especially in the first three and last two months. This information is not just outdated - it is fundamentally wrong! Pregnancy is not a contraindication to sex - it is not a disease or a pathology, but just a temporary change in the condition of a woman, which, subject to medical recommendations and careful attitude towards herself, does not pose any danger. On the contrary, a woman, seeing and feeling male desire, finds confirmation of her own sexual attractiveness in the eyes of the opposite sex, understands that she is loved and found attractive. Such a positive charge of emotions helps to relieve excessive anxiety and suspiciousness.

Another important aspect: during pregnancy, there is an increase in blood flow to the pelvic organs, the vagina narrows, and the clitoris increases in size. This allows a woman to get brighter and longer orgasms during intercourse. Vaginal sex is a kind of preparatory exercise that increases the elasticity of perineal tissues and other intimate muscles.

Features of intimate life at different stages of pregnancy:

The behavior of a man, the sexual temperament of a woman, the nuances of intimate family life - all this also matters, but in the first place during pregnancy is physiology, the changes in which leave a considerable imprint on what is happening.

- in the 1st trimester

The first three months often do not go as smoothly as we would like. Familiar to many toxicosis affects the libido negatively. Exhausting nausea, which can occur from time to time, or be present around the clock, vomiting from smells and tastes, dizziness, weakness - all this does not add positive, but on the contrary - negatively affects the emotional state of the pregnant woman, makes her tearful, nervous, inadequately responsive to everyday problems. This scares not only her, but also her husband. Relationships can become more tense and be accompanied by resentment and mutual reproaches. Even if earlier conflict situations were resolved through sex, now this tool cannot be used. A man, seeing from the side of a woman’s suffering, torments her from the inability to help her, and if the wife “goes headlong” into reading magazines and visiting medical centers, from a feeling of her own uselessness.

- in the 2nd trimester

In the second trimester, the health of most women returns to normal. Hormones have ceased to "rage", toxicosis has come to naught, as well as the desire to constantly sleep. The appeared belly is still very small, looks very nice and does not cause inconvenience in everyday life. A woman knows that the fetus is already firmly entrenched in the uterus, is not afraid of a miscarriage and is more willing to have sexual contact with her husband. Her breasts become softer and rounder, lifted up. Watching the changes for the better, a man also becomes calmer, more confident, and is already accustomed to the thought of the upcoming fatherhood. For many couples, the second trimester becomes a real honeymoon - because the fear of getting pregnant disappears, which makes it possible to feel even more joy from sexual intercourse.

IMPORTANT! Remember: you can please each other not only during vaginal sex. There are other forms of caresses that can be used to diversify games in bed. It is allowed to use special toys (within reason, of course), costumes or play role-playing games. Choose whatever you like!

- in the 3rd trimester

The final, third trimester, again causes some tension. The expectant mother is increasingly thinking about the upcoming birth, is arranging the children's room, buying things, is already mentally planning the diet and the day of her daughter or son. The stomach grows literally before our eyes, swelling appears on the legs, the face may swell. But even if a woman feels good in general, she may well (hearing or reading a few “horror stories”) be afraid of preterm labor allegedly provoked by sex and orgasm. In vain! If the child is not yet mature enough, and the body is not ready for childbirth, uterine contractions cannot provoke contractions. But literally 2-3 weeks before the expected birth - yes, an orgasm can act as a push.

In addition, physical changes not only interfere, but also cause inconvenience during intimacy. The circle of possible poses is limited, legs and back can hurt. A man at this time is trying to calculate future financial costs and alleviate the condition of his wife, and she worries no less before the upcoming birth. He is afraid to hurt her, which from the outside can be regarded as rejection, and someone even feels embarrassed in front of the child inside.

Optimal positions for sexual intimacy

When choosing a position, start not only from your own convenience, but also from the deadline. At an early stage, there are no physical difficulties yet. But gradually, as the fetus grows, it is worth being careful. If earlier you preferred the “man on top” position, now you have to get away from it - you can’t put pressure on your stomach. From the fourth month, the pose of “lying on the side”, “riders”, penetration from behind is well suited. It is better to exclude deep penetration for now: if partners prefer one of the “woman on top” options, choose a position in which the partner leans on her knees or lies on the partner.

The “man behind” pose eliminates the burden on the grown belly. The ideal is the "spoon" position, when the partners lie on their sides, and the man is behind the woman's back.

Another option: the woman lies on the edge of the bed (on her back), and the spouse kneels on the floor.

Possible negative consequences of having sex for the expectant mother

  • Do not have anal sex during this time. There is a high risk of infection with bacteria from the anus. This can happen even with careful attention to hygiene standards- bacteria easily enter the vagina, and from there to the uterus.
  • Give up sexual "marathons" for this time.
  • Rough sex is not allowed.
  • If the vagina is too dry, use a special lubricant. But do not choose a drug with a flavor or dye in the composition, they can provoke an allergy.
  • No other partners! There is a high risk of infection for both mother and fetus in the womb.

REFERENCE! In some cases, doctors, wanting to provoke labor, strongly recommend having sex in late pregnancy.

Contraindications to sex for pregnant women

Rarely, but it happens that a ban on sexual life really imposed. This happens in the following cases:

  • If in the past a woman has already had a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage;
  • There is a threat of spontaneous abortion;
  • Partner is sick
  • A woman is expecting twins or more children;
  • In the fetal bladder, a rupture of the membrane was revealed;
  • Diagnosed with placenta previa or it lies too low;
  • There is leakage or outpouring of amniotic fluid;
  • There is a threat of premature opening of the cervix (isthmic-cervical insufficiency is observed);
  • The pregnant woman was placed on strict bed rest.

Conclusion

Do not impose a ban on your sex life during pregnancy. But waving your hand and doing whatever comes into your head is also not worth it. Ask in detail about all the nuances of your doctor that concern you, find out if there are any serious contraindications, read special literature and explain to your spouse that some of the restrictions imposed on the process itself will soon go away. All of the above actions will help you to carry your baby calmly and without problems, enjoying not only stroking a growing belly and choosing baby things. Be happy!

Strange thing... When you see two lines on a pregnancy test, the first thing you do is read all sorts of horror stories on the Internet.

You sit on the forums, analyze someone else's negative experience and do not see a person next to you who also needs support, confidence in your love, closeness with your beloved woman. However, in some cases sexual rest is indeed shown. So when is intimate life forbidden during pregnancy and when is it simply necessary?

In addition to the pleasure of communicating with a partner, sex during pregnancy has a number of positive aspects:

    During intimacy, “pleasure hormones” are produced that have a positive effect on the baby.

    Orgasm relieves tension, and abstinence, on the contrary, increases the nervousness of a pregnant woman, whose psyche is not stable anyway.

    When else can you completely relax during sex without thinking about contraception? Of course, by default, you are sure that your husband is faithful and that both of you do not have any sexually transmitted infections.

    Prostaglandins, which are contained in seminal fluid, prepare the cervix for the upcoming birth, softening it.

    The uterus is a muscular organ, contractions during orgasm are a kind of training before childbirth.

    An orgasm and, as a result, uterine contractions can stimulate labor activity in cases where a woman is already somewhat overwhelmed by pregnancy.

    Intimacy is more important than ever in strengthening the emotional bond between spouses. Expecting a baby is always a difficult time for a young family.

    It is important for you to feel beautiful, loved and desired. A full sexual life gives a woman confidence in her attractiveness and in the fact that she is valuable in herself, and not just as a mother of an unborn child.

A woman is always anxious when she is in a burden, and her husband's eyes too often seek someone else's gaze.

Maurice Druon

In addition to purely emotional moments, such as a feeling of loneliness, a lack of attention from a loved one, jealousy for an unborn child, there is also quite specific physical harm from prolonged sexual abstinence.

    A full sexual life is important for the normal functioning of the endocrine and cardiovascular systems.

    With prolonged abstinence, there are risks of congestion, problems with the prostate gland, adenoma, and even malignant tumors. Regular ejaculation in this case serves as a preventive measure.

    There are statistics according to which in 80% of cases the cause of neurosis is abstinence.

    Another consequence of months of abstinence is premature ejaculation.

There is something to think about. Do you need it?

Sex is no more important than a cheese sandwich. But if you haven't had a crumb in your mouth before tonight, the cheese sandwich is extremely important.

When you really can't

Whatever your online girlfriends advise you, try to see your gynecologist as soon as possible. Intimate life during pregnancy by weeks can carry various risks. After an examination, an ultrasound examination and a conversation with the pregnant woman, the doctor may either allow you to continue to have sex or recommend sexual rest. You should refrain from sex in such cases:

    If you are a lucky woman who is expecting twins or triplets, then most likely, after 20 weeks, the doctor will forbid you intimacy because there is a high risk of preterm birth. But until this time, everything is possible, so do not deprive yourself and your husband of the pleasure of intimacy.

    Periodic painless uterine contractions are normal. But if the uterus is constantly in good shape, then this can be an alarming signal, and it is better to refuse sex, at least today.

    Placenta previa is the most common reason for sexual relations. This pathology occurs in 1% of pregnant women.

    It is much more common to find a low location of the placenta. In this case, sex can be done with caution and in positions in which the penetration is not too deep.

    If you find blood on your underwear, then you do not need to go to bed with your husband, but go straight to the doctor. And not in the morning, but right now.

    If there is a history of miscarriages or premature births, then sexual rest is recommended for 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 and so on weeks, that is, on the days when you could start menstruating if you were not in a position. These days are considered especially dangerous.

    Sexual contacts are prohibited if one of the spouses has a sexually transmitted disease.

    Pregnancy is considered full-term already from 38 weeks, but it is better not to rush things and not stimulate labor before 40 weeks. Better rest and sleep these last couple of weeks. But starting from 41 weeks, if contractions do not start, then stimulation with sex is what you need.

Such a different toxicosis

It is, of course, impossible to have sex when you are constantly sick and have only eaten a slice of lemon for the whole day. Toxicosis can begin as early as week 5 and end only by the second trimester. No one knows why some women do not have it at all, while others literally live in the bathroom for all 12 weeks, otherwise they are in the hospital under a dropper. It just needs to be experienced. Recipes traditional medicine to combat toxicosis - in the article

In extremely rare cases, there is the so-called "toxicosis on the husband." This is when you start to feel sick at the sight of your husband, from the smell of his body or the sound of his voice. The reasons for this phenomenon are unknown to science, but as a hypothesis, a version is voiced according to which a woman has claims against her husband. Perhaps she was not ready for pregnancy and subconsciously blames her husband for what is happening. Time, affection, confidential conversation will help here.

And in very rare cases, a man suffers from toxicosis. He is also sick, he reacts to smells, eating behavior may change, mood swings may appear. Male toxicosis occurs when a too impressionable husband is very worried about his woman and literally perceives her pain as his own. In this case, a consultation with a family psychologist is indicated.

A few proven ways to cope with toxicosis:

  • in the morning, while still in bed, eat, for example, a cracker, some dried fruit, a spoonful of honey, a slice of milk chocolate;
  • it is better to refuse hot food and choose liquid or semi-liquid food if possible;
  • for some, the real salvation is ginger tea or tea with lemon;
  • it is better to eat little and often, and after eating lie down a bit and try to relax;
  • carry mint candy with you, a bag of raisins or dried apricots, drink tea with mint or lemon balm;
  • drink as much as you need, "according to thirst", but do not drink anything with food, otherwise you are threatened with an attack of nausea.

In general, experiment with different tastes - and you are sure to find a way to combat nausea that is right for you.

The question of whether it is possible to have sex during pregnancy is natural, like the instinct of reproduction itself. On the one hand, you need to understand that in practice, sex in the early stages of pregnancy happens all the time - until a woman suspects the fact of conception, and it does not entail negative consequences for the fetus. On the other hand, one of the main roles in sexual intercourse is played by the uterus. And the contraction of its walls during orgasm can theoretically cause a miscarriage.

The practice of gynecology shows that modern women compared with the old days, the understanding of both the physiological side of sex and pregnancy has greatly expanded. That is why more and more expectant mothers are striving to provide themselves with sexual peace during pregnancy, especially if it is not perfect. However, to assess the real need for complete abstinence or restriction on the positions used, most of them still lack medical knowledge.

Psychological and physiological changes

Prior to the rapid feminization of society decades ago, abstaining from sex during pregnancy was quite common. True, the justifications for such a practice were infinitely far from physiological and medical truths. It's just that a rather extensive period in the history of mankind was marked by an attitude towards a woman, especially a married woman, only as an instrument of procreation.

Based on this basic "function", wives, along with husbands, considered it natural to abstain from personal life until childbirth. This was explained by the fact that if the pleasure of sex for both participants was considered a secondary issue, then the resolution of the burden by a healthy child was the main goal and task.

Currently, both sexes see the situation differently. And in itself, the question of whether it is possible to live sexually during pregnancy is no longer discussed. After all, even the doctor's answer to it can be only one - it is possible and, moreover, sometimes it is necessary. And this opinion, unlike the superstitions of the past, has a strict scientific basis.

Why does attraction increase?

Sex during pregnancy is physiological for a woman in the same way as, for example, critical days. That is why here one does not exclude the other at all, at least in the norm. Moreover, a number of changes occur in a woman's body during pregnancy, some of which contribute to an increase in interest in sex.

  • estrogen levels. They are responsible for sex drive. After conception, their content noticeably “grows up”. Initially, this happens in order to strengthen the connection of the fertilized egg with the uterine wall and ensure other aspects of gestation. But one of the indirect consequences of such a jump is to increase the attraction and brightness of orgasms during sex during pregnancy. And the inability to satisfy the intensified desire has not yet benefited anyone.
  • Blood supply. This refers to the reproductive organs: uterus, vagina, external genitalia. A newly born new organism begins to grow and develop intensively from the very first days of its existence. To do this, he needs a very high-quality and intensive blood supply. The mother's body responds to this need by increasing blood flow throughout the reproductive system. But judging by the reviews of mothers who have already taken place, who continued to have sex during pregnancy, the secondary result of such a response is an increase in the sensitivity of the clitoris, vagina, cervix, increased attraction.

Unfavorable Aspects

Along with the above manifestations, there are other moments that are no longer so favorable for intercourse.

  • Changes in body proportions. In particular, the belly growing day by day and swollen chest, which can also be combined with a set excess weight or new stretch marks. A woman perceives all this sharply negatively, although men, on the contrary, often find women "in position" even more desirable than usual. Sometimes such changes cause expectant mothers to avoid sex during pregnancy and even for some time after childbirth.
  • Soreness of the mammary glands. The more noticeable their swelling in the plans for preparing for lactation, the more noticeable there should be changes in the tactics of touching them - including during sex during pregnancy. On the one hand, they become more sensitive, and on the other, more irritable. For a significant part of expectant mothers, it even comes to having sex in a bra - because of the discomfort when the breasts sag.
  • The phenomena of toxicosis. They are typical for the 1st trimester of pregnancy and, what is especially interesting, does not always apply specifically to food. Often, the irritants from which the expectant mother is drawn to vomit are the smell of the sweat of the sexual partner, his deodorant. This is especially frustrating when combined with a lingering attraction, especially since negative reflexes, even those caused by temporary or accidental circumstances, tend to stick around for a long time.
  • The feeling of a "third wheel". There is no longer any doubt that future child perceives everything that happens to the body of his mother, and reacts to these events. Often this fact prevents both partners from having sex during pregnancy, giving the impression that someone is peeping. And if at the very beginning of pregnancy the effect is not yet so noticeable, then by the end of the 2nd trimester, when the baby begins to move, expressing various emotions, it intensifies at times. Moreover, a relatively developed fetus responds to the excitement and orgasm experienced by the mother with chaotic movements, its heart rate quickens.

Factors of possible damage to the fetus

Sex during gestation is different from that outside of it. Depending on the perception, the differences that have arisen can make it more or less pleasant / desirable, due to which the question is decided whether they should not both refrain from sexual intercourse during pregnancy in certain periods or until the very birth.

As for the child himself and everything related to his life, the most likely harm to him can be caused by sexual contacts that occurred in the first weeks after conception or at the end of the 3rd trimester, one to two weeks before birth. This happens as a result of two factors.

  1. Unstable fixation. In the first weeks after conception, the attachment of a fertilized egg to the uterine wall is still fragile, especially if it happened closer to critical days. So, one bright orgasm during sex during pregnancy is still quite enough for a miscarriage.
  2. Proximity of childbirth. Here leading role plays the preparation of the organism itself for childbirth. The tone of the walls of the uterus increases along with their contractility (this effect is provided by oxytocin, the hormone of childbirth and lactation). Therefore, for the mother, the risk of getting not only unexpectedly vivid sensations during sex during pregnancy increases, but also premature labor pains.

Ironically, the likelihood of violent or frequent sex in the first few weeks after conception (while the expectant mother does not even know about it) is higher than at any other time. After all, the attraction in women increases from the very first days after the birth of a new life, and the reason for this phenomenon is still hidden. However, such combinations pose a tangible threat only to those who have already had miscarriages, abortions, ectopic pregnancies and other complications.

Safety regulations

So, sexual life during pregnancy is possible, exists and is practiced by many couples with almost no restrictions. And the answer to the frequently asked question about how far pregnant you can have sex is until the last two weeks of it. But despite the fact that the fetus is protected from the usual mechanical effects of coitus quite well, it will only be better for everyone if both mom and dad begin to adhere to a number of reasonable restrictions during sex during pregnancy.

  • Safe sex. That is, using a condom. Since the vagina can be infected with opportunistic or pathogenic microorganisms of the partner. This scenario during sex during pregnancy is desirable to prevent, since transplacental infection of the fetus is dangerous.
  • Classic sex. That is, unhurried and not too saturated with "exotics". So, anal sex during pregnancy, especially intense, is less desirable than vaginal, simply because of its inherent risks to the integrity of the rectum. Cracks in its walls or anal sphincter are bad even not so much for their soreness, but for the likelihood of large-scale infection of the tissues and organs of the small pelvis with dangerous pathogens - components of its own microflora. It is unlikely that such complications are what a young mother dreams of all her life, and even more so during sex during pregnancy. The same applies to intensive movements in complex poses and other special practices. There is nothing shameful in diversifying your sex life with them during normal periods. And during sex during pregnancy, it becomes difficult for the expectant mother to endure such violent "fun" purely physically. So, it is better for both partners to just save their strength.
  • Restrictions on individual poses. It must be understood that the “missionary” position (the woman lies on her back) is not very successful for pregnant women in general, especially on later dates. Firstly, there is a risk of squeezing the heavy uterus of the inferior vena cava - the one that leads along the lower sections of the spine, to the right of it. This phenomenon can cause dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and it occurs without any connection with sex - only because of a long supine position. Secondly, the pressure of the male body on the lower abdomen of a woman during sex during pregnancy is also unlikely to cause her pleasant sensations.

There are both objective (medical) and subjective reasons for abstinence during certain periods or up to the very birth. Of the subjective ones, the following can be noted.

  • The presence of brown discharge. If they appeared within the next day or two after sex during pregnancy, they talk about the admixture of clotted blood in the separated lubricant from the cervix. It is not always about problems with pregnancy - rather, with inflammation, fibromyoma, erosion or infection of the cervix itself. In any case, this is an alarming symptom, it requires an immediate renunciation of excessive sexual activity and a visit to a doctor.
  • Presence of fresh blood. If within the next few hours/days after intercourse and even if the rest of the time the woman does not experience any disturbing sensations, such scarlet "strings" indicate the presence of injuries to the vaginal wall or cervix. But they may indicate bleeding in the cavity of the uterus itself - that is, a threat to the fetus. This means that, of course, it is not sex during pregnancy that is to blame, but it is better to stop it and seek advice from a gynecologist leading the pregnancy.
  • Pain of varying intensity. Occurring during the actual sex or orgasm. It is important to establish its nature because it not only spoils the impression of sex during pregnancy, but can also be a symptom of a serious complication that simply has not yet made itself felt.
  • Burning and/or itching in the vagina. Such symptoms transparently hint at vaginal dysbacteriosis. Especially often, such shifts in microflora are observed in mothers who have previously had candidiasis or who take antibiotics for any other reason. Sex during such periods is fraught with the spread of the “awakened” infection along the ascending path, including entry into the uterine cavity.

Strict contraindications

Objective contraindications to sex during pregnancy relate to the following cases.

  • Sexual infections. That is, if a woman or her sexual partner is being treated for any sexually transmitted diseases or there is a suspicion of their presence. In this case, oral sex and other alternative forms of intimacy will be safer not only for the baby, but also for both parents.
  • Uterine hypertonicity. In ordinary life we are talking nothing more than about the behavior of the reproductive system. But during pregnancy, additional arousal and orgasm can interrupt it ahead of time. Uterine hypertonicity as a phenomenon is more common in IVF. If it is present, it is impossible not only to have sex, but also to experience sexual arousal.
  • Short cervix. This condition is also called isthmic-cervical insufficiency. Normally, the cervix shortens itself before childbirth to make it easier for the baby to pass through it. The essence of the process is to weaken the tone of the tissues that form it, which leads to the expansion of its pharynx and the shortening of its walls in length (the neck, as it were, “spreads” in different directions). This leads to the loss of her ability to hold the total weight of the child and amniotic fluid in the organ cavity. For women with a chronically shortened cervix, miscarriages are typical as early as the second trimester. And if the pregnancy was saved (for example, by applying ligatures), sex is strictly contraindicated for them.
  • Frozen pregnancy. This term refers to the death of the fetus in the early stages, followed by its independent or forced (abortion) removal from the uterine cavity. Usually doctors prescribe in connection with it abstinence for two to three weeks, with further use of a condom for the same period. The contraindication is due to the fact that a miscarriage or abortion is accompanied by the appearance of erosion on the mucous membrane of the uterine wall (at the site of attachment of a fertilized, but never developed egg). This is a common wound that is easy to infect with foreign microflora.
  • carrying twins. Twins, triplets for future parents are, of course, a joy multiplied by the number of babies. However, bearing such a "company" for the mother's body is not an easy task. So, the risk of losing one of them or giving birth ahead of schedule in such cases is always higher. Hence the recommendation to postpone sexual life, in any case, stormy and frequent.
  • Problems with bearing. That is, cases when the expectant mother has an abortion or a history of miscarriage have already been stored, including if at the time of the resumption of sexual activity it seems to her and even the doctor that there is no threat to the health and life of the fetus.

In addition, older women age groups or those who have problems conceiving, the question often arises of what kind of sex can be done during IVF pregnancy. That is, it did not come on its own, but as a result of a successful transplantation of an egg fertilized in vitro (in laboratory conditions).

In most cases, problems with conceiving and bearing a child are not directly related to each other. In other words, a successfully "accustomed" artificial pregnancy should "keep" inside the uterus as reliably as a natural one. But this is all theory, and practice shows that difficulties with conception increase the risks both during gestation and during childbirth. Therefore, sex after successful IVF is recommended only in limited quantities, without any "daring experiments" and only in the second trimester. You can certainly start doing it no earlier than 12 weeks from the moment of conception, and finish it no later than a month before giving birth.

In general, sex during pregnancy is not contraindicated and is even recommended. The accumulated sexual tension also increases the tone of the uterus, leads to congestion in the circulatory system of the external genitalia and vagina. Thus, the interruption of sexual activity for the period before childbirth without special reasons is irrational and sometimes even worse for the child than its moderate continuation.
