Stress is good or bad. Stress and stress conditions. Causes, stages, what happens in the body, positive and negative consequences, methods of dealing with and increasing stress resistance. Harmful effects from prolonged stress

Stress is a special state of the nervous system or the reaction of the whole organism to physical or psychological influences. Stress can occur as a response to positive or negative situations. In the scientific classification, two types of stress are distinguished: stress is caused by positive emotions, it allows you to mobilize forces, and does not cause much harm, distress is caused by a negative effect on the body that it cannot cope with, therefore it causes great harm to health and can cause diseases .

According to independent statistics, about 70% of the population of our country are in a state of stress.

Stress becomes dangerous when it is constant or excessive, but remember that even negative experiences can be helpful. Its benefit lies in the fact that it promotes activity and decision-making. Avoiding stress is completely impossible.

Life events are not the cause of stress, the reason is how a person relates to the situation. The causes of stress are diverse, and the forms in which it manifests itself are individual. The symptoms of stress can be physical (headache, indigestion, insomnia, fatigue), emotional (anger, depression, irritability, mood swings) or cognitive (forgetfulness, repetitive thoughts, distracted attention).

In general, a stressful situation is an excellent simulator for the body. As a result of tension, adrenaline is released into the blood, the body's defenses are enhanced, and the work of the heart improves. I would like to immediately emphasize stress should be reasonable. For example, extreme sports, they are great help to "break out" adrenaline and have a positive effect on the human body and in particular on his health.

Any stressful situation has a certain sequence: beginning, climax and denouement. The state of health is influenced by the last stage - post-stress, when the body adapts to what happened. The duration of this stage depends on the characteristics of the person. When this stage is delayed, exhaustion of the body can occur, with all the consequences. The main thing is not to linger in post-stress.

It is equally important to be able to relieve stress, using various methods for this. When choosing a method, you need to remember that none of the methods gives the maximum effect, it is possible to use several methods; It's important to remember that what works for one person may not work for another, so it's more beneficial to try more ways to find the one that works for you. Among the many methods, the most common are meditation and guided visualization.

Stress causes severe harm to health, a person is prone to frequent colds, aggravated chronic diseases. Prolonged exposure to stress contributes to the appearance of depressive disorders. To prevent the constant presence of stress in your life, you need to follow some rules.

If your attempts to reduce stress have not been successful, seek help from a specialist.

Beauty and Health Health

Pro stress today almost everyone speaks, and most people tend to consider them the cause of their problems, including health problems. But what this concept means, few people think.

Our body is designed in such a way that it needs balance, and this is very wise. However, people often violate this balance with their behavior, attitude towards themselves and each other, and the body has to constantly work “on the verge”, trying to maintain the normal course of all physiological and mental processes, that is, practically not to rest.

Stress is divided into external and internal. It is believed that external stresses affect us from the outside, and internal ones - from the depths of the body.

External causes include exposure to aggressive ecology, bad habits, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, workloads, problems in personal life: for example, a breakup with a loved one, as well as personal tragedies and misfortunes that can happen.

Internal factors include food allergies; disorders in the immune and endocrine systems that cause diabetes and other diseases; inadequate, poor nutrition; depression due to lack of essential substances - vitamins and minerals.

At first glance, this division seems correct, but let's try to understand it more carefully. Of all the factors that are considered external, only tragedies and misfortunes that occur regardless of the will of a person, and, perhaps, the ecological situation, can really be considered as such, although we also choose our place of residence consciously. Concerning bad habits, being in the sun, stress at work and even problems in personal relationships, then much, if not all, depends on the person himself. It may seem to many that this is not so, but we ourselves make a choice: to smoke or not, whether to drink alcohol; we choose our own work; decide how to behave with a loved one.

The effect of stress on the body considered very harmful. Why? The fact is that this reaction of the body is very ancient: even in the Stone Age, our ancestors, hunting wild animals, won and saved their lives precisely thanks to stress.

In an extreme situation, hormones are released into the bloodstream, ensuring the supply of energy to where it is needed - therefore, our ancestors managed to either kill the animal or run away from it, saving their lives.

In our time, although we do not hunt dangerous animals at the risk of life, the physiological response has remained the same. As soon as stress hormones are released into the blood, the whole body comes to combat readiness, and the glucose supply from the liver abruptly enters the muscles.

At this time, many changes take place in the body. The pulse quickens; the heart begins to pump more blood; breathing also quickens - because we need more oxygen. The vessels expand - they also need to supply organs and tissues with blood faster; the spleen begins to work in an accelerated mode; the number of lymphocytes increases, and the ability of the blood to clot increases - suddenly an injury?

Pupils dilate to improve vision; the digestion process slows down dramatically, as the body needs energy for other purposes - for the work of the brain and muscles.

Our ancestors, after hunting the beast, rested and gained new strength, and the body at that time managed to restore balance and all important processes. Any predator, a lion or a leopard, does exactly the same, even if he fails to catch up with the antelope the first time.

Stress conceived by nature in order to allow us to make active actions in a very short period of time, and no more. But, unlike our ancestors, we do not allow ourselves to rest and relax, even when it is vital, and therefore the body is in a state of alert all the time. Imagine that your body works all the time as described above. How long will he last?

The body tries to restore balance by any means - it needs to adapt to stress, since it is delayed. Pressure begins to rise, the amount of glucose in the blood decreases - and all this is arbitrary, in search of optimal options.

But we do not allow our body to find these options - we add problems to it all the time: for example, we begin to take chemical drugs uncontrollably, trying to extinguish stress with their help. And it gets even worse...

Being in a state of protracted stress we weaken our immunity. The immune system, constantly being in a state of alert, cannot pay attention to the fight against infections, colds or developing oncology.

The state of danger caused by stress, for immune system more important than protection against infections and foreign microorganisms, and then the activity of the cells responsible for this protection is simply suppressed. The causative agents of any infections at this time can do anything in the body - there is no one to cope with them.

And the habit of "jamming" stress with various "goodies" sold ready-made in stores adds problems to an overloaded body, depleting the last reserves of energy. At the same time, normal appetite is disturbed, body weight decreases, or, conversely, increases; a person feels constant fatigue; mood often changes - there is unreasonable excitement or depression; itchy skin rashes may appear.

If this destructive process is not stopped, then our life will deteriorate until it turns into a nightmare. Have you ever wondered why life expectancy in our country, compared to developed countries, is significantly less, and we often look worse than our peers, for example, from European countries?

However, if you influence most of the factors that cause stress, we don’t succeed, then everyone can help the body - there would be a desire. After all, the body, whether we are under stress or not, needs to work - it has no days off, and it cannot take a vacation. Therefore, it is worth providing him with normal nutrition so that the organs, unsettled by stress, can support our very existence.

Under the influence stress the body generates much more free radicals than in a normal environment. To combat them, you need nutrients: vitamins and minerals. Vitamins A, E and C, selenium and zinc, which are abundant in citrus fruits, tomatoes, olive oil, kiwi, pumpkin, dark green vegetables, seafood, plums, sesame seeds, best of all cope with this task.

Don't drink coffee or black tea when you're tired or upset: better drink freshly squeezed juice, or at least juice from a tetra pack - this will give your body a much better chance to last.

Change your diet if you can't change your environment. Stop eating refined foods and drinking carbonated drinks - include in your diet those foods that are necessary for stress management.

If your working day is too busy and there is not enough time for a full break, take with you such snacks that you can eat right at the workplace: crispbread sandwiches with apple and cheese; green leaf lettuce with pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts; toast with almond butter; whole grain bread and smoked salmon or fish liver pate. Natural yogurt after dinner will also bring much more benefits than energy drinks.

Make a decision: on weekends, while at home, eat only raw foods - prepare salads from vegetables and fruits, eat cereals, nuts, honey, fresh dairy products, drink freshly squeezed juices. Then work all week and deal with stress you will be much easier.

There are others ways to deal with stress and helping to cope with its consequences. For example, you should always set yourself clear and precise goals, and not worry about global problems. Massage, acupuncture, visualization, gymnastics and meditation, breathing exercises and water procedures- all this helps too.

When unpleasant moments happen in life, do not blame anyone, and especially yourself. Instead, ask yourself why this happened to you, and what can you learn from this situation? If you do not allow a negative reaction, then stress will become less and less.

By the way, the statement that laughter is the best medicine is absolutely true. Of course, when you are upset, you don’t feel like laughing at all, but it’s worth a try. At least turn on funny music or put on a funny movie: the well-known and beloved cartoons about the cat Leopold help a lot in such situations. There is just a magical installation: “Guys, let's live together!”

Stress is the strongest tension different systems an organism that does not pass without a trace. The negative impact of stress on human health is very large and has the worst consequences. It is the stressful situation that causes many diseases that will manifest themselves later - both physical and mental.

Factors that cause stress

To minimize the effect of stress on the body, you need to fight it most actively. First you need to understand what was the annoying factor. If you get rid of the cause, you can eliminate the consequences.

Effects of stress on human physiological health

The impact of stress on human health is enormous. It manifests itself in diseases various systems and organs, as well as in the general deterioration of a person's well-being. Most often, stress affects the physiological health of a person as follows.

1. Concentration of attention and memory worsens. The impact of stress on performance is enormous: only in rare cases a person goes headlong into work. Most often, a person, either physically or psychologically, simply cannot perform the work efficiently and on time. He is prone to fatigue quickly.
2. Violent headaches.
3. How does stress affect the heart? Diseases of the cardiovascular system manifest themselves most clearly during such periods. There is an increase in heart rate, myocardial infarction may occur, and hypertension is exacerbated.
4. Chronic lack of sleep.
5. Alcoholism.
6. The gastrointestinal tract also suffers: peptic ulcer and gastritis become aggravated or open.
7. Reduced immunity and as a result - frequent viral diseases.
8. In stressful situations, hormones are produced in large quantities and adversely affect the functioning of the nervous system and internal organs. For muscles, an increased concentration of glucocorticoids is dangerous for muscle tissue dystrophy. It is an excess of hormones during stress that leads to such serious diseases as thinning of the skin and osteoporosis.

9. Some experts believe that it is stress that provokes the growth of cancer cells.

    10. Unfortunately, some consequences of stress are so severe that they are irreversible: a rare, but still consequence, is the degeneration of cells in both the spinal cord and the brain.

    The effect of stress on mental health

    How does stress affect mental health? It becomes very difficult for a person to live and work. Each action requires incredible mental effort from him. A stressful situation leads to the following consequences.

  1. A person may lose the desire to do anything at all and even to live.
  2. Irritability, aggressiveness, intolerance, fits of anger.
  3. Depression, neurosis, emotional instability.
  4. Insomnia.
  5. How to calm down after stress, when all this is happening, but nothing can be done, since internal forces are depleted? You need to learn special techniques to overcome stressful situations.

    The concept of occupational stress

    How does stress affect a person if it is purely professional in nature and is the result of work? There is even a special concept in medicine for such a disease - occupational stress, which received in recent times wide use. Its main consequence is professional burnout, which will come back to haunt not only the employee who has experienced stress, but also the employer, whose productivity will decrease and who may lose a valuable employee.

    Causes of occupational stress.

    1. Physical reasons:

  6. - constant noise or vibration in the workplace, even a loud radio can become a provoking factor for professional stress;
  7. polluted atmosphere or harmful working conditions.
  8. 2. Physiological reasons:

  9. inconvenient work schedule;
  10. bad food at work.
  11. 3. Socio-psychological reasons:

  12. unsettled relations with the workforce;
  13. overload;
  14. personal conflicts with one of the colleagues or superiors.
  15. 4. Organizational reasons:

  16. unfair or unclear division of duties;
  17. high pace of work;
  18. monotony of work;
  19. short deadlines for completing tasks - a feeling of constant time trouble.
  20. Types of occupational stress

    Depending on the causes that cause stress at work, occupational stress can be of several types.

    1. Work stress occurs if there are significant violations of the working conditions of the employee, but he cannot change anything and tolerates this situation.
    2. Production stress arises from dissatisfaction with the type of activity that the employee is engaged in; Perhaps this is dictated by the wrong choice of profession.
    3. Organizational stress is the influence of the daily routine and the requirements of the organization in which the employee works.

    Prevention of occupational stress

    What helps relieve stress at work? In order not to ask such a question, it is best to carry out appropriate prevention of this disease in time. And the main role in this responsible matter is given to the head of the organization.

    Firstly, stressful situations can be avoided if employees are informed in time and fully about the psychological situation in the team. A stand is required that should warn employees of possible stresses and how to deal with them.

    Secondly, you need to organize trainings for your staff, which will help not only to avoid a stressful situation, but to get out of it with dignity.

    Thirdly, the leader himself needs special training to create a favorable psychological atmosphere in the team.

    The sooner the disease is identified, the easier it will be to undergo treatment. The consequences of prolonged stress will need to be eliminated not only by a psychotherapist, but also by doctors of other different areas, since many body systems will be affected.

    Stress and its effects on mental health

    According to studies in Russia, approximately 70% of the population is constantly in a state of stress, of which 30% are in a state of severe stress. Studies have shown that 7 out of 10 Russians have experienced chronic fatigue syndrome at least once in their lives.

    It is important to understand that stress only becomes dangerous when it is excessive and/or persistent. It must be remembered that even a negative experience is useful. It not only carries negative emotions, but at the same time it is able to stimulate us to be active and make important decisions. It is impossible to completely avoid stress, it would make life boring and uninteresting.

    To better understand stress, it is necessary to know that life events themselves do not cause it. The main thing here is how a person perceives the situation. Everyone reacts differently to what is happening, for example, for some, public speaking is a source of great stress, while for others it is a neutral or even pleasant situation. The causes of stress are diverse, and the forms of manifestation are individual.

    Stress (from the English stress - tension, pressure, pressure) - a non-specific (general) reaction of the body to a very strong impact, whether physical or psychological, as well as the corresponding state of the nervous system of the body (or the body as a whole). It should be noted that stress is different: it can occur both in response to negative situations, and to positive ones. In modern science, stress is divided into stress (the concept has two meanings - “stress caused by positive emotions” and “mild stress that mobilizes the body”) and distress (a negative type of stress that the human body cannot cope with). The first type of stress occurs in everyone, but it does not cause harm, on the contrary, it helps to mobilize forces and adapt to the situation. The second type (distress) harms a person's health and can even lead to severe mental illness.

    Distress symptoms:

  • muscle tension, especially in the neck and shoulders;
  • stomach upset;
  • headache;
  • insomnia;
  • overeating, drinking alcohol, smoking;
  • heart palpitations;
  • fatigue;
  • irritability;
  • depression;
  • anger;
  • anxiety;
  • mood swings;
  • feeling tired;
  • difficulty concentrating;
  • forgetfulness;
  • negative, repetitive thoughts.
  • Severe stress harms human health very significantly. Because of it, first of all, physical health suffers - we often get colds, our chronic diseases worsen, stress affects our appearance. All this, in turn, becomes an additional source of worries and anxiety. There is a vicious circle. However, stress not only causes serious damage to physical health, but also affects mental state and emotional well-being. We begin to get upset, angry, nervous more often. As a result, our emotional state worsens, relationships with people around us are upset, problems arise in study and work. Prolonged stay in this state leads to the appearance of depressive and anxiety disorders. Unproductive ways of coping with stress (for example, drinking alcohol, overeating, “tipping off evil” on loved ones) lead to a worsening of the situation.

    In order to prevent negative stress once from becoming a constant companion, you need to follow some rules that will help you become more resistant to stress, and make your outlook on the situation less negative.

    Here are some ways to increase your resilience:

    • pay attention to the problem that has arisen, do not ignore it and do not expect it to resolve itself;
    • try to identify what exactly causes stress in the situation;
    • think about what this situation means to you;
    • remember that stress can be reduced. Consider how this can be done. Take a break, change the environment, distract yourself with something.
    • learn to control your own emotions. Try to look at the situation from the outside - is it as catastrophic as it seems at first glance? Talk about the problem situation with loved ones, ask for help and support.
    • try to control your the physical state. In a difficult situation, breathe deeply and slowly, this normalizes the heart rate, do some relaxation exercises to relieve muscle tension. Also, do not forget about regular exercise and proper nutrition, try to reduce the consumption of nicotine and caffeine and properly alternate work with rest.
    • learn how to use your time effectively. Make a plan of things for the day, try not to leave anything for later, do everything on time.
    • be careful and patient with yourself.
    • If you feel that your attempts to reduce the experienced stress are not successful, seek psychological help from a specialist.

      The harm of stress on health

      The benefits and harms of stress. Effective stress relief in one-two-three

      Stress is a state of physical and emotional tension that occurs in certain situations. Under stress, the human body behaves in a non-specific way.

      When we look at stress, we talk about its positive and negative sides. Arguing with the benefits of stress is pointless, since it is obvious.

      It is stress that motivates a person to work and achieve high results. For example, a person is lying on the couch, watching TV and not in a hurry. Suddenly he realizes that the wind is “walking” in his wallet and he has nothing to buy even a loaf of bread. This is a real stress for a person - the unknown. He is not sure that he will be able to survive tomorrow, so he gets ready and goes to look for a job. This stress made the person get out of bed and take action.

      Stress improves a person's attention. Example: you are sitting at a lecture that is absolutely not interesting to you. Suddenly you feel like you are falling asleep - your eyelids close, your head drops down. Can you concentrate on a subject? Of course not. Suddenly, a teacher comes up to you and makes a couple of blows with a pointer (do not be afraid, not for you, although this is also stressful) on the table. You immediately come out of the dream state and concentrate on the lecture.

      What else is stress good for? It helps to defend their own point of view. Let's say you work at an enterprise, doing monotonous work every day, but doing it with high quality. One fine day, you will find out that your colleague has been paid a bonus, but you have been forgotten. You immediately go to the boss and begin to defend your rights. Stress leads to constructive action. You tell how much work you have done this month and prove that you also deserve to receive an award. As a result, you receive your bonus, or you are given a reasoned answer why you were left without a bonus this month.

      Stress helps a person get out of their own comfort zone and start working on themselves. If you know that gaining additional experience and attending seminars whose purpose is to improve your skills will take you one step closer to the goal, you will get this experience. Yes, you will have to sacrifice free time and that will be stressful for you. But you know what you're working so hard for.

      Now for the dangers of stress. At first glance, it is obvious to everyone. And yet, most of us do not even realize the scale of the tragedy that stress can lead to. It can be either an ordinary nervous breakdown or a desire to die.

      Constant stress weakens the human nervous system. This leads to a variety of psycho-emotional disorders. If earlier a person was balanced and calmly reacted to situations, then under the influence of constant stress on the same ordinary circumstances, a person can react anxiously and irritably. Under the influence of stress, a person can withdraw into himself and close himself off from the outside world, showing a defensive reaction. A hard-working and energetic person under the influence of stress is able to become passive, lose working capacity and interest in favorite activities. Stress changes a person by 180 degrees; others no longer recognize him. Naturally, such serious changes do not occur at once, but are the result of the constant impact of stress factors on a person.

      Stress leads a person to depression. Life ceases to seem something incredible, nothing pleases a person. This depressive state has a negative impact on all areas. human life, but the main thing is that time passes, which a person spends in vain.

      When a person is in a state of constant stress, he tries to return to his “comfort zone” or get away from stress. Departure from stress, as a rule, is carried out with the help of alcohol and drugs. It seems to a person that alcohol helps to forget about all the problems and acquire the much-desired peace and well-being. But after the effect of alcohol stops, the problems return to the person, and as a “bonus” he gets a headache and disruption of other body systems. All systems of the body, without exception, are exposed to the negative effects of alcohol, and especially the nervous and cardiovascular systems. It turns out that trying to relax with the help of alcohol, a person deals an even greater blow to the psyche, thereby helping stress to do its “insidious” work. I don’t want to talk about drugs at all - you still need to look for a more stupid way to cope with stress.

      The cardiovascular system is the second most popular “target” of stress. Under the influence of stress, a person's heart rate increases, which causes an increase in blood pressure. Prolonged stress is a path to heart problems. While the human heart is young, it copes with the effects of stress, but at later stages of life, any stress can cause a heart attack.

      If you think that you are not suffering from the effects of stress digestive system man - you are deeply mistaken. Most diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (gastric and duodenal ulcers, colitis, gastritis) are caused by stress. Many people try to manage stress with chocolate and sugary drinks. They do not pay enough attention to proper nutrition, which leads to the aforementioned diseases, as well as rapid obesity.

      What other system effectively “helps” deal with stress? Stressed men are waiting for constant failures in bed. They simply cannot relax, constantly worrying and thinking about other things. A couple of years of life in constant sex - and hello, erectile dysfunction. But this is not the worst. There are frequent cases when during sex one of the partners began to take out all his anger, which ended in numerous beatings and injuries. Needless to say, after such cases, even the most romantic relationships came to an end?

      Stress and immunity. The negative impact of stress on the human immune system is so great that it led to the creation of a whole science - psychoneuroimmunology, which studies this effect. When a person falls under the influence of stress factors, his immunity decreases, which opens the way for the development of pathogenic bacteria and viruses in the body. This leads to illness and discomfort. But the worst thing is that when a person gets sick, his immune system is not able to cope with the disease. Such diseases can last not only for weeks, but also for months.

      One thing should be understood - the negative impact of stress on one system or organ can lead to problems in other organs, because in human body everything is interconnected.

      The only way out of this situation is to follow effective methods stress relief. Only in this way will you protect your body from stress and prevent deterioration of health. Are these methods secret? Certainly not. Many of them are known even to schoolchildren. But very often they are forgotten about, trying to relieve stress in other harmful ways that only harm the body (we wrote about them above).

      How else are you trying to relieve stress? The first thing that comes to mind is drugs. Going into any pharmacy, you can see these drugs flaunting on the shelves. What kind of means to relieve stress does not offer us modern medicine! And all manufacturers promise quick stress relief, guarantee the naturalness of drugs. Some, which are more impudent, even promise complete relief from stress once and for all. They can be understood - their main goal is to make a profit, and in this business all means are good. They know how urgent the problem of stress is, namely, in a stressful state, a person is ready to give any money, just to regain peace, harmony and joy of life.

      But what do drugs really do? Do they relieve stress as promised? Naturally, no. The drugs are based medicinal herbs and other auxiliary elements that have a temporary sedative effect. They soothe, relieve emotional stress and even help improve sleep. But this effect is only temporary, while not affecting stress in any way. When the effect of the drug ends, the person returns to his usual irritable state, again feeling all the “colors” of stress.

      But the disadvantages of sedatives do not end there. Contrary to the claims of manufacturers that their drugs are not addictive, most of them are addictive. It all ends with the fact that a person does not leave the house without making sure that there are a couple of tablets of sedatives in his bag (or better, if a whole package at once). When a person begins to feel the slightest stress, the hand involuntarily reaches for the medicine.

      However, this is a topic for another article, but we will analyze effective methods that will help you cope with stress without the use of drugs and without alcohol and drugs.

      1. Warm bath with foam and sea salt. How often do we strive to do everything - to demonstrate excellent work to the authorities, to please relatives and friends, to be with friends, etc. At the same time, we completely forget about ourselves, refusing to devote just an hour of time a day to bringing our psychological state back to normal. Is it any wonder that, over time, stress leads to inadequate responses to even minor stimuli?

      There is only one way out - when you return home, you send all the “important” things to hell, take a warm bath with sea salt, put yourself some light relaxing music and plunge into the world of tranquility and harmony. Allowing yourself such a “luxury” at least twice a week, you will significantly increase your chances of dealing with stress. You will also relieve the muscle tension accumulated over the whole day and drive away gloomy thoughts.

      That's how easy it is to deal with stress! The main thing is to recognize that you deserve the best no less than those for whom you work tirelessly every day.

      2. If you dead hour If you're working on an idea but it's stubbornly not coming to your mind, or you just feel like you're losing focus and becoming irritable, it's time to go for a walk.

      Why walking in the fresh air helps to cope with stress? Mainly because while walking you switch your thoughts and give yourself a break. Your body will surely thank you for this. In addition, physical activity is one of the best ways to relieve stress and irritability.

      Naturally, by "walk" is meant not a trip to night club and a walk in a quiet park. Just imagine - birds are singing around, you are sitting on a bench and no one bothers you. You can even meditate! Make time for yourself.

      3. Sports exercises. If a regular walk is not for you, then put on your favorite tracksuit, sneakers - and go to the stadium! Don't like running? Well, you can go to the pool. Swimming - the best remedy to relieve stress, because in addition to physical exercise, you feel contact with water. Going in for sports, you will kill two “hares” at once - get rid of stress and bring yourself into excellent physical shape.

      4. Have a little tea party. This does not mean that you should make yourself tea and continue with your current affairs. First, put all your affairs aside, brew yourself a cup of fragrant green tea (it has been proven that green tea contains useful material that help you calm down faster), open a bar of dark chocolate purchased in advance from the store and enjoy the silence. Do not try to think about work - think about something more pleasant, for example, about your last year's trip. Take a break from gloomy thoughts and at least for a couple of minutes immerse yourself in a state of absolute harmony and peace.

      5. Clean up. It's hard to believe, but an activity so unloved by most, like cleaning the apartment, can really help relieve stress and get rid of unpleasant thoughts. If you focus on organizing things, you won't have time to pay attention to stressors. In addition, it is known that the external order is transferred to the order in life. Yes, and working in a clean apartment will bring you much more satisfaction.

      6. Control your breathing. When a person is in a disturbed state, his breathing quickens. At the same time, a person is not able to concentrate on important matters, everything falls out of his hands. To prevent this from happening, you should control your breathing. How? Very simple - take a deep breath, hold your breath for one second, then slowly exhale. At the same time, your exhalation should be twice as slow as your inhalation. While doing the exercise, try to concentrate on your own breathing.

      7. Start practicing relaxation techniques and meditate. Meditation will help not only get rid of problems, but also learn to abstract from them, “clearing” your head from disturbing thoughts. You learn to respond more calmly to stressful situations, and some of them are completely ignored. Daily stressors such as traffic jams, congestion at work and city noise, which used to lead to psychological breakdowns, will lose all meaning for you. You will learn to treat them as ordinary factors that happen from time to time. Moreover, you will begin to be surprised at how people perceive ordinary situations painfully, how they react restlessly to them. After all, it's such nonsense!

      8. Listen to pleasant music. It does not have to be meditation music or birdsong, although the beneficial effects of this music can hardly be disputed. You can just drop everything, lie down on the bed, put on your favorite headphones and plunge into the magnificent world of music. The main requirement is that you should like the music and each listening to it should cause you pleasant emotions. Of course, it is desirable to listen to the smooth and monotonous sound of the melody. Such music may seem boring and even tedious, but it is it that is recommended for relaxation and stress relief. But again, the choice of music is always yours.

      9. Relax ... on the way home. You probably know how many stressful situations arise during the working day. Some of us, returning home, continue to accumulate it. As a result, stress creates Bad mood, which then pours out on relatives and friends. The result is quarrels and conflicts that do not contribute to a good continuation of the day.

      Have you noticed how many conflict situations arise in public transport in the evening, when most people return home from work? People scream, quarrel and get nervous. But you do differently - do not let the general panic take over your mood. Just turn off your thoughts and abstract. If you find it difficult to do this, buy an MP-3 player and upload some relaxation songs to it. Remember: all the negative emotions received at work, you should leave at work.

      10. Learn to control your thoughts. If obsessive thoughts constantly climb into your head, drive them away. Having allowed them once, you will start to wind yourself up over trifles that in reality are not worth a penny. Focus exclusively on positive and optimistic thoughts. To do this, you will need the ability to control your own thoughts. How to do it? We will discuss with you in more detail in the article “Managing your own thoughts - it's so easy!”.

      11. Hang out with positive people. Every person has friends who can be divided into 2 main categories. Representatives of the first category, upon meeting, begin to load their own problems, complain and tell how badly they live. Typical “ energy vampires". The second category of friends is constantly positive, interested in your affairs, it is so easy and simple to communicate with them, forgetting about problems. These are the people you need to communicate, so try to spend most of your time with them, and start moving away from the first category of friends or minimize your communication.

      12. Turn off everything. This technique is so simple that you can use it right after you finish reading the article. Turn off your computer, phone, TV, music center and anything else that might distract you. Lie down on the couch and be alone with positive thoughts. This is a great way to get rid of stress, time-tested.

      13. Prevent stress. Stress, like any disease, is easier to prevent than to treat. How to do it? Very simple! Change your attitude in many areas of your life.

      Are you having problems at work? You will definitely solve them! Don't take them to heart. Work is just a way to earn money and fulfill yourself. Your whole life does not depend on your work today.

      Started a family scandal? For many people this is a real tragedy, but not for you. Ask yourself: “Is the subject of the conflict so important to me?”. If the answer is “No,” make concessions to a loved one and accept his point of view.

      The same approach can be successfully applied to other areas of life. Take things easy and with a smile. And then you will not be afraid of any stress.

The full development of the personality requires some influence from the outside. This impact can be people, events and… stresses. We are just interested in this last factor.

Stress can be both physical and psychological. Physical - arise from the feeling of hunger, heat, thirst, cold, infection, etc. Psychological - are the result of a strong nervous strain.

The effect of stress on the human body can be both positive and negative. Stresses that are not too strong and prolonged lead to positive changes. However, if the impact of stress is intense, sharp, prolonged in time, then it is destructive. In an attempt to compensate for the growing internal dissatisfaction, a person begins to use psychoactive substances, alcohol, drugs, changes sexual preferences, commits rash acts, plunges into the world of gambling. Such behavior only exacerbates internal discomfort and adds problems.

In the event that stress has a negative impact, it is possible to change a number of indicators, including physical and mental health, social circle, success in the implementation of professional plans, relationships with the opposite sex.

Stress and its consequences are directly proportional phenomena, the stronger and longer the stress, the greater the negative impact it has on health in the first place.

Stress disrupts the usual rhythm of human life. Due to a strong nervous overstrain, the most vulnerable systems of the body are “hit”: the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal tract, endocrine system.

It is possible to develop diseases such as:

  • angina pectoris
  • increase in blood sugar
  • hypertension
  • heart attack
  • increased levels of fatty acids
  • gastritis
  • insomnia
  • stomach ulcer
  • neuroses
  • chronic colitis
  • cholelithiasis
  • depression
  • decreased immunity, as a result of frequent colds, etc.

The effect of stress on the human body may not appear immediately, but may have a delayed development of a serious, and sometimes life-threatening, disease. No wonder doctors warn us that "all diseases are from nerves."

Hormones produced by the body during times of stress are necessary for the normal functioning of the body, but the volume of these hormones should not be high. A high amount of these hormones contributes to the development various diseases, including cancer. Their negative impact is exacerbated by the fact that modern people lead a sedentary lifestyle and rarely use muscle energy. For this reason, active substances “wander” around the body for a long time in high concentrations, thereby keeping the body in a state of tension and not allowing the nervous system to calm down.

Thus, a high concentration of glucocorticoids causes the breakdown of proteins and nucleic acids, which ultimately contributes to muscle dystrophy.

In bone tissue, hormones lead to the suppression of calcium absorption, and a decrease in bone mass occurs. The risk of developing osteoporosis, a fairly common disease among women, increases. In the skin, they inhibit the renewal of fibroblasts, thereby causing thinning of the skin, contributing to poor healing in case of damage.

The consequences of stress can be manifested in the degeneration of brain cells, growth retardation, reduced insulin secretion, etc.

In connection with such an extensive list in medicine, a new direction has arisen - psychosomatic medicine. It deals with all kinds of stresses that play the role of the main or concomitant pathogenetic factors that provoke the development of diseases.

Stress and social circle

Stress itself has no effect on the social circle. However, the consequences of stress, expressed in psycho-emotional restructuring, can become one of the main factors that disrupt interaction with representatives of society. First of all, these violations are associated with the unwillingness to maintain previous relationships, which leads to a narrowing of the social circle.

In addition, a common phenomenon in this situation is conflict, sharp negativism and outbursts of anger, which naturally affects interaction with communication partners.

As a result, a person who has experienced a stress disorder, under the influence of acquired characteristics, loses his usual social circle, which contributes to the strengthening of post-stress reactions.

stress and family

Stress and its consequences have a negative impact on intra-family relationships. Regardless of which of the spouses experienced the effects of stress, certain difficulties appear in the family. They are associated with violations:

  • in communication (temper, conflict, suspiciousness do not strengthen the communication of spouses)
  • in the intimate sphere (refusal to perform marital duty)
  • in professional activities (loss of work, deterioration in the material well-being of the family).

How to avoid negative consequences

We have repeatedly said that the strength of the individual lies not in the ability to "hide" from stress, but in the ability to control one's state. It is this ability that will subsequently protect against the negative impact of stressful situations. There are many techniques for restoring a normal psycho-emotional state.

  1. First of all, after suffering a nervous overstrain, you should “let off steam”. An effective remedy is an exercise consisting in the usual strong cry. For its implementation, one condition is necessary - the provision of privacy, so as not to frighten others. You can go out into nature and there in its bosom, throw out everything that has accumulated. To do this, you need to concentrate on negative emotions and that there is strength to shout. You can shout any sound or word. Three approaches are enough.
  2. Well restores internal balance breathing exercises. The connection between breathing and the human condition has long been established. For example, at the moment of a strong fright, he catches his breath. By restoring the normal rhythm of breathing, it is possible to restore the emotional state. There are many different types of gymnastics. To calm down, you need to slowly inhale through the nose, holding your breath slightly for a couple of seconds, and exhale slowly, but already cut your mouth. This exercise is well combined with exercises to relax parts of the body or muscles of the face.
  3. Helps to cope with the effects of stress physical activity. It can be sports activities (team games or individual exercises) or ordinary household work that allows you to actively move (washing floors, weeding the garden). In addition to the fact that as a result of the work of the muscles, the body gets rid of unnecessary stress products that have formed in its tissues, these exercises will allow you to escape from unpleasant thoughts.
  4. Of great importance in overcoming the results of stress is the support of loved ones. The opportunity to speak out, throw out the accumulated thoughts and at the same time get approval will allow you to “heal” mental trauma.
  5. A good Russian bath will relieve the body of stress hormones.
  6. Helps to cope with the power of art. Singing, music, dancing affect emotions, relieve tension, allow expressing feelings. In addition, singing and dancing contribute to the normalization of breathing (we wrote about its importance above) and increase physical activity, the role of which is invaluable in anti-stress therapy.

Thus, it is possible to cope with stress and its consequences without harm to health and loss of social connections. It is important to want this and to know some of the secrets that we share with you. Having defeated this “monster” once, you will be able to go through life with the feeling of a winner and master of your life.

Modern man is almost constantly exposed to various stresses. It is now considered that stress is a constant companion of progress and an indispensable component of life in megacities. This is true, but only in part. Even if a person moves to a cave and spends the whole day in meditation and prayer, then in this case he will hardly be able to avoid stress.

Many psychologists argue that stress in small doses is very useful, but when it takes on a protracted character, this is already very serious and fraught with health problems. Today we will tell you about what kind of stress harms the body, and what, on the contrary, is useful and mobilizes it.

Serious stress

1. Financial difficulties

The psychological consequences of a constant, chronic lack of money and worries about it are absent-mindedness, tearfulness, fatigue, constant despondency and bad mood. Someone experiences bouts of hunger and constantly empties the refrigerator, while someone, on the contrary, loses his appetite.

Advice: if you experience constant financial difficulties and often think about your “foggy” future, you urgently need to reconsider your attitude to life. You won't change anything if you constantly worry. Maybe it’s better to reconsider your lifestyle, take fewer loans, read literature on how to live within your means and understand that there is nothing more important in life than health. We live in order to rejoice, and not to be constantly sad! It is better to listen to good music and watch good films than to report on emergencies.

2. Daily, constant problems at work

Acute, short-term stress does not harm, on the contrary, it will only harden you. But if stress becomes chronic and the situation that causes it is not resolved in any way, then it can develop into depression, which cannot be cured by meditation and psychological sessions alone. Depression is treated medicines. If left untreated, it can lead to psychosomatic illnesses. Protracted, prolonged stress can lead to immunosuppression, when a person becomes almost completely defenseless against colds, viral and infectious diseases.

Advice: try to either change the situation or change your attitude towards it. Maybe it's time to take decisive action and change something in your life? Learn to go to the intended goal, realizing your needs, but at the same time, taking into account the needs of others. Know how to think through your actions and balance quick, immediate results with the long-term consequences of these actions.

3. Loss loved one

The loss of a loved one is not just stress, it is a great grief. This is a blow that shakes the entire body, sometimes even posing a threat to life.

Advice: in this case, it is difficult to give advice, but you must try to understand that the worst has already happened and now it is important for you to find the strength in yourself in order to continue living normally. You have to wait a while and then devote yourself to something, find something for your soul, some business or hobby that will dull the pain and then give your life a new meaning.

4. Parting with a partner

This stressful situation can also become protracted. Of course, it is natural to experience suffering when parting, because when people part, they literally “cut to the quick”. But it is important to understand that stress can quickly turn into depression and no one will help you except yourself.

Advice: It is important to remember that every life conflict has both a beginning and an end. And if something is over for you, then the period of something new has come. The cause of stress is obvious, so do not delay the solution of your problem. Your life is in your hands and only you can make yourself happy. Every time we make a choice, the consequences of which we then reap. If your choice is to suffer and cry, then suffer and cry until the health problems become irreversible. Do you need it? Maybe make a choice - to enjoy every day and be happy no matter what?

Light stress

1. Bad work day

A call from a dissatisfied client, a quarrel with colleagues or superiors, and other “working” troubles can cause a stressful situation. However, all these troubles may not harm, but, on the contrary, help you! From a psychological point of view, stress is a threat to our stability, and from a physiological point of view, it is the body's natural response to a threat. The body strengthens its defense mechanisms, which in the future can help it resist infections! Therefore, if you gather yourself internally, you may have new strength, and an unbanal solution to your problem may come to your mind.

Advice: do not sag, but, on the contrary, get together! Treat failure not as a nuisance, but as an obstacle that is interesting to overcome, so that later you can fully enjoy your victory. And never forget that a black stripe is always followed by a white one.

2. Public speaking

The need to speak and give a speech in front of a large crowd of people can unbalance almost every person. However, this kind of stress is super healthy! Of course, the body will turn on the defense and you may have increased sweating and palpitations. However, the accompanying release of the hormones adrenaline and cortisone into the bloodstream will make your reactions faster, you will become more self-confident and after the experienced stress you will experience joy and pleasure.

Advice: do not postpone the implementation of your task for a long time, otherwise there is a risk of burnout and completely lose the forces mobilized by the body. So try to be one of the first.

3. Being late

If we are in a hurry somewhere and are late, we also experience stress. It is best to learn how to correctly calculate your time in order to avoid unnecessary fuss and unrest. Just leave the house earlier than necessary, at least for ten minutes.

Stress and intimate life

Chronic, long-term stress can negatively affect your intimate life. Being in a depressed state, a person experiences lethargy, irritation, despondency, apathy and sometimes even drowsiness. Well, in this state, we don’t care about intimate joys, well, we don’t want anything! At such moments, partners may move away from each other, quarrels and mutual reproaches are possible.

Advice: sex is fun! In order for stress not to negatively affect your libido, sex should be regular, since only regular sex increases the level of testosterone in the blood. During periods of depression and stress, try not to give up intimate relationships, but, on the contrary, take sex as a medicine. Orgasm is good way relax and de-stress. At such moments, the body releases hormones of joy and pleasure.

Physical exercise. When you're nervous and can't sit still because the stress hormone (cortisol) makes your muscles work harder, you need to warm up. First stretch your hands and massage your fingers, then you can do side bends and squats. An excellent option to relieve stress can be a trip to the gym or physical labor.

Any weird move. If you do not have the opportunity to exercise, then you can go down and up the stairs or walk like a penguin (waddling from foot to foot). You can also twist your eyes and move them, looking sharply to the right, then to the left.

Deep breathing. Deep, calm and even breathing is also very soothing. Sit, straighten your back, straighten your shoulders and slowly inhale deeply. Fill with air first the lower abdomen, then the chest, and then the clavicle. Hold your breath and exhale slowly, with a noise. Inhalation is done through the nose, exhalation through the mouth.

Muscle relaxation. At the moment of stress, we, like turtles, also pull our heads into our shoulders and tighten our scalp and facial muscles, as if preparing for protection. Lower your shoulders and try to relax your neck muscles by tilting your head forward and massaging your scalp with your fingers.

Warm palms. If you are very excited about something, rub your palms together, feel the warmth and energy in them, and put them on your face. This will allow you to calm down and feel safe.

Stress haunts us all the time and our task is not to give up, not to fall into its network and not to fall apart. To do this, it is important to understand that all difficulties are temporary, and dawn always follows sunset. And, no matter how trite it may sound, everything is always done for our highest good - for our experience, for our growing up, for our spiritual growth. And always, even in the most difficult situation, it is important not to give up and always remain a person, so that in the future you will not be ashamed of either your words or your actions.

Love to you, kindness and harmony!

We all appreciate the positive moments of our lives, but, unfortunately, in the daily routine, people are increasingly faced with various kinds of stress. They can be caused both by problems in the professional sphere, and wait for us in interpersonal relationships. Many of us are interested in such a question as the benefits and harms of stress for the human body.

Stress appears in the daily life of all people.

What happens to the physiology of the body during stress

Stress is a psychosomatic disorder, therefore, when it is present, a person feels not only the exhaustion of the psyche, but also a violation of the functioning of internal organs. Individual organs and systems of the body suffer the most:

  • The thymus gland, which is the basis of the human immune system and protects the body from adverse effects, is reduced environment. The thymus gland does not tolerate stress at all (noise, sudden changes in temperature). During stress, iron decreases in size, which leads to a decrease in defensive forces organism.
  • The level of insulin rises. A carbohydrate such as glucose acts as a source of energy in the body, which activates the protective properties of the body.
  • Muscles contract involuntarily. Seizures can destroy the muscle tissue that makes up the internal organs.
  • The size of the capillaries increases. During emotional stress, the capillaries expand, and with strong emotional overexcitation, they burst completely, which is accompanied by the appearance of hematomas and blue skin.
  • The functioning of cells is disrupted. Under the influence of regular stress in the cells, the process of producing toxins occurs, which accumulate over time and poison the body.

How stress affects the human psyche

The effect of stress also affects the human psyche. Prolonged exposure to a stressful situation has a negative impact on mental health and can cause psychotrauma. How to recognize such conditions in yourself or your loved ones? It is worth paying attention to symptoms such as:

  • decreased concentration;
  • low speed of reaction and thinking;
  • impaired visual acuity, changes in smell and taste;
  • stuttering;
  • sexual desire disorders;
  • antisocial behavior and the emergence of addictions;
  • violation of the perception of reality;
  • increased aggression;
  • the occurrence of apathy;
  • constant feeling of anxiety.

When psychoemotional stress lasts for a long time, a person develops a psychotrauma (destruction of the psyche that occurs under the influence of an extremely strong source of stress). Traumatic factors include such events as natural and man-made disasters, military conflicts, crimes against a person. Quite often, psychotrauma is diagnosed not only in the victim himself, but also in people close to him.

Visual impairment is one of the consequences of nervous tension.

What is dangerous psychotrauma

Psychotrauma destroys the personality of a person, does not allow to return to the usual way of life. The experience of helplessness, panic attacks, fear of death, horror and anxiety are the main features of this dangerous psychological state.

Psychotrauma can stay with the victim for life, because its cause is always very significant for a person, and therefore it injures the psyche so deeply that it is impossible to cope with the consequences on your own.

A person develops a tendency to self-destruction, the main danger of which is manifestations of suicidal behavior. In such a situation, a person urgently needs the help of a psychologist, and sometimes a psychiatrist.

What diseases can develop under stress

Regular stress provokes hormonal changes in the whole body, which can cause a number of serious diseases:

  • diseases of the cardiovascular system;
  • ulcers and gastritis, which appear due to an increase in the acidity of the stomach during intense stress;
  • tachycardia and panic attacks;
  • dermatitis and eczema;
  • sexual health problems;
  • delay of menstruation;
  • asthma and shortness of breath;
  • Alzheimer's disease;
  • neurosis and depression.

The positive effect of stress on the body

Still, stress is a complex process that carries not only disadvantages, but also advantages. Short-term stress can have a positive effect on the human body and psyche. Such stresses raise the level of adrenaline in the blood, sharpen attention, hearing, vision, intuition, activate the hidden capabilities of the body, that is, they are useful for the human psyche and physiology.

Positive effect on the immune system

With a short-term effect of stress on the body, its defense systems begin to work as efficiently as possible. The adrenal gland, which is responsible for regulating stress, balances the immune system and helps in the fight against bacteria and viruses. The adrenal glands produce cortisol as a reaction to psycho-emotional stimuli, which has a positive effect on the entire body as a whole, increases its resistance to infections.

Accelerated recovery after surgery

The very awareness of the upcoming surgical intervention is already a stress factor. During a period of temporary mental stress, the body produces immune cells that are sent to the skin and lymph nodes, accelerating the regeneration of damaged areas.

Stress from surgery helps the patient recover faster

Increased sense of affection

A short-term stressful situation increases the level of oxytocin, which is responsible for the mechanisms of attachment: it is oxytocin that ensures the attachment of parents to their child and strengthens married couples with stable bonds.

Acceleration of the brain

Due to emotional stress nervous system begins to work in an accelerated mode, so all thought processes proceed more actively.

Increasing the endurance of the nervous system

Over time, immunity is developed to stressful situations, so each subsequent stress will be experienced more easily and without much depletion of the body.

Long-term protective effect of vaccination

The benefit of stress is that it has a positive effect on the immune response of the body during vaccination, so the protective effect of the vaccine is prolonged.

Stress prolongs the effect of the vaccine

Improving the functioning of the senses

Short-term stress can temporarily improve your sense of smell and touch, putting your body into alert mode. Such stress is not only useful, but also necessary for the human body.

Now we know that emotional stress can have a positive effect on the body, activating its hidden resources, but at the same time it can also destroy a person’s physical and mental health.

Stressful situations that accompany a person's life bring not only harm, but also benefit.

On the other hand, if the effect of stress is long-term and you understand that you cannot cope with its negative impact on your own, you need to seek professional help.
