Making a box with your own hands from wood. DIY wooden boxes: from simple to complex. From newspaper tubes

General issues

Wooden caskets are a wonderful receptacle for all kinds of "treasures" accumulated by the fair sex - both young and old. They enjoy constant success because of their beauty, spaciousness and practicality, but the prices for such products often bite a lot. Therefore, many ladies (or their gentlemen) decide to create a useful little thing on their own. This decision cannot be reproached for being illogical, since many people can make a box out of wood. For the manufacture of a simple product, special skills and abilities are not required, you only need a great desire, accuracy, patience and attention to the smallest details. Fantasy will not be a hindrance either.

What are they like?

When planning the creation of a box, a person usually knows what functions will be assigned to this small item. But it is often quite difficult to deal with the form and additional elements. Such boxes-chests are usually bought or made to store useful or memorabilia. Among them:

  1. Bijouterie, jewelry. In the first case, several small branches are needed. It is convenient when they "know how" to move inside the box. The second option suggests that the interior space should guarantee the safety of expensive things. In this case, models are often sheathed with velvet, and a mirror is placed on the lid for convenience during fitting.
  2. Sewing accessories. These wooden boxes also have several compartments for needles, threads, and accessories. For ease of carrying, a handle is added to the elements.
  3. Cigars. This box has its own name - a humidor. These rectangular models are often divided into sections, they are equipped with a humidifier and a hygrometer.
  4. "Stash" - inviolable cash reserves. Here is the most convenient option- a rectangle designed like a small book.
  5. Postcards, letters, photographs. Such caskets can be made in the shape of a heart.

The range of shop models is quite wide: there are items with locks, watches, secret boxes. However, the main goal of the “casket cases” amateur is to get acquainted with the simplest design, and you can go to conquer new heights only when experience comes and the master “knocks his hand”.

Creating a simple box

If the house has everything necessary materials and tools, as well as minimal “communication” skills with the latter, then the work will not create any particular difficulties. It is necessary to prepare a piece of plywood that is suitable in size (preferably multilayer). It should not have visible defects - cracks or knots. The list of tools includes:

  • pencil, ruler;
  • glue (for example, Moment Crystal);
  • manual jigsaw;
  • a hammer;
  • sandpaper of different grain sizes;
  • file;
  • small loops for boxes;
  • clamps, vise;
  • screws (for example, 2.5x8 mm).

The first stage is the construction of a drawing or the search for a suitable scheme in the virtual space. For a beginner, it is still more expedient to choose a simple rectangular design, since in its manufacture it is possible to avoid most of the mistakes that a complex geometric shape will surely provoke.

Case manufacturing

First, body parts are transferred to the plywood sheet. With the help of a pencil and a ruler, 4 walls are drawn on it - two long frontal and two short side walls. At the edges of the ends of the elements, grooves are marked, their height is equal to the thickness of the plywood sheet. Such a connection will make the box more reliable, similar to store products. Then they draw the bottom, which should be located inside the walls, on the same level (flush) with their bottom.

All drawn elements are carefully cut with a jigsaw. After the blanks are made, all ends are carefully polished with sandpaper. Then the inner walls of the box and the upper surface of the bottom are also processed, otherwise it will be much more difficult to do this later.

The walls are glued, having previously smeared the ends with spikes with the composition. They are hammered into nests, if necessary, they are grinded a little with a file. The bottom is attached last. If it refuses to fit inside the walls, it is polished (grinded) again until the base can tightly “sit down” in its rightful place. Then the semi-finished product is placed in clamps (vise).

Cover construction

It can be made flat, but such a little thing will immediately lose a considerable amount of originality. Therefore, the lid is made in the same way as the body. First, a large part is cut out, then small side walls with grooves. All blanks are also polished: first, the walls from the inside, then the lid, it can be processed from both at once.

After gluing the parts, the lid is also placed in clamps. After drying both parts of the box, they are connected using hinges and mini-screws. Holes for them are made in advance, their diameter is slightly smaller than that of fasteners. If you forget about this condition, then the plywood can break.

Boxes are made of wood almost in the same way - from boards, but in this case more serious tools are needed. For high-quality cutting, a circular and end saw is used, curly edges are obtained using a milling cutter.

Wooden box with drawers

To create it, any tree is suitable - beech, oak, pine or ash. The main requirements are dry wood, no knots.

Lid and bottom

First, they come up with the shape of the product, make the same stencils for the lid and bottom. Two blanks are cut out of the boards, a stencil is applied to them, and a contour is outlined. They are turned with a manual milling cutter, which is fixed in such a way that only the milling cutter, its working part, protrudes above the table surface. After turning the figured workpiece, they proceed to grinding. For this operation, a wooden disk is used, on which a strip of sandpaper is fixed.

Frame

For him, take three boards with a thickness of about 10 mm and the same height. The ends are cut with a saw at an angle (45 °). Then the elements are glued with any glue (for example, the same Moment). For the front of the box, 2 absolutely identical planks are cut out, their thickness is 15 mm. The first part is glued to the top of the box body.

For the second, a box is assembled, the thickness of its rear and side walls is 50 mm, the front wall and bottom are 40 mm. The box is glued together, while not forgetting to control the straightness of the corners. Then a second plank is glued to the front wall of the box. If necessary, then partitions are made in the box, for them I also use boards 40 mm thick.

For the upper, fixed box, the bottom is cut out, then it is glued. After inserting the lower sliding element, check its progress. If there are any obstacles, then they are removed by grinding. The last steps are the installation of partitions in the upper section and fixing the lid on the box with hinges.

Jewelry box decoration

The finished product is decorated at its discretion - they are simply treated with a stain or painted, covered with several layers of varnish.

Blowtorch with stain

There are more interesting option but it requires presence blowtorch, work with which is simply obliged to be carried out with extreme caution. For example, it will not be superfluous to bring a bucket of water to the place of work in advance.

First, the workpiece is fired quite a bit until light tan marks appear. Since plywood is very afraid of strong fire, you can’t get carried away too much, otherwise ugly areas will appear on the material, and it will no longer be possible to camouflage them.

After completing this stage, the box is covered with several layers of stain (2-3), the number of these operations depends on what color intensity the master wants to get as a result. In conclusion, all the ends of the product are treated with sandpaper. As a result, the new box will turn into an object with almost a century of history.

How is a carved lid made?

Mini chests with a carved lid look more attractive, but you need to prepare for the fact that the first experience will not be very successful.

For wood carving, you must have at least a minimum set. These are knives - oblique and pen, pencil, needle file, sandpaper, ruler, stencil or compass. The best option is a set of special chisels designed specifically for woodcarving. Smooth edges are obtained using a knife having a three-sided sharpening.

The drawing is transferred to the lid using a stencil, or the pattern is made independently. After that, they begin to cut out the “extra”: an oblique knife is used for straight lines, a pen tool for figures of a more intricate shape. The finished thread is cleaned with sandpaper or a file.

How is the lock placed?

Purchased products boast real locking mechanisms. Unfortunately, such locks are beyond the power of a beginner to embed on their own. But you can decorate the box with an equally attractive decorative hook or patch lock.

In addition to it, the kit includes miniature screws or studs, so this decoration is quite easy to fix on your own. The only difficulty awaiting the master is the exact marking for fasteners. Otherwise, the box will simply refuse to close.

Since making a box out of wood is quite simple, to familiarize yourself with the process, it is enough to see the entire operation with your own eyes once. And one of the popular magic wands will help with this - a useful and interesting video.

Wooden caskets are a versatile thing that can serve to perform many tasks. Do you need a gift for a birthday, career advancement, housewarming or New Year? A man, or maybe a woman? Do you have nowhere to put decorations or nowhere to store gift cards? Buying a box will help you. However, if you do not want to spend a lot of money or wondered how to make a box out of wood, this article will come in handy.

History of boxes

Such a luxury item as a box appeared in the world quite a long time ago, several millennia BC. However, not everyone could afford them. They were designed to store jewelry and precious stones and were often made of gold, silver or bronze. The poorer owners were the owners of cheaper caskets made of wood covered with fabric or other inexpensive material. Regardless of the cost and quality of the chest, it became a family treasure and passed on to descendants.

With the development of industrialization and the transition to machine production, the purchase of a chest has become much more affordable. Now it occupies an honorable place in the life of modern people.

Types of boxes

Making a jewelry box handmade- this is a creative process, and therefore there are a lot of different types of them. First of all, they differ in the material of manufacture. For example, it could be:

  • Wood;
  • Expensive metals (gold, silver)
  • Cheaper metals (iron);
  • Glass;
  • Ivory;
  • Cardboard.

Any box can be simple or artfully decorated. To decorate the casket, the following techniques are most often used:

  • Inlay with precious and semi-precious stones;
  • Thread;
  • engraving;
  • Covering with leather, velvet or similar materials.

How to make a box

Since buying a quality chest can cost you a pretty penny, it is much more profitable to create a wooden box with your own hands.

For this you will need:

  • Wood (preferably boards about 1-1.5 cm thick);
  • Cardboard;
  • Manual frezer;
  • Hand saw;
  • Glue for wood;
  • Loops for the lid of the box;
  • Decor.
  • Step 1. Draw on cardboard a template for the bottom and top of the box, its bottom and lid.
  • Step 2. We take two prepared boards of the specified thickness and draw patterns on them.
  • Step 3. Using a milling cutter, we cut out the desired shape of the parts of the chest. This should be done slowly and carefully. If you do not know how to do this, refer to the appropriate master class.
  • Step 4. To complete the work on the bottom and lid, they should be sanded. It is best to use a skin fixed on a wooden disc. Working on the box is creativity, so any will do another way of polishing. Bottom and lid are ready!
  • Step 5. We take three boards of the same thickness (approximately the thickness of the bottom or a little less) and height. The length of one of the sides may differ, this will be the back wall. Sawing boards at an angle of 45 0 at the junction, using a miter saw.
  • Step 6. We glue the boards to the bottom, forming our chest.
  • Step 7. We cut out two small boards for the front side of the chest, with the expectation that they should be connected together, but not tightly. On the boards, you can stick another thin board (twice or three times less thick) for beauty, later we will attach a handle to it.
  • Step 8. We glue one board tightly from above, we attach the second to a box (with a bottom) of boards about 0.5 cm thick, which will freely enter the bottom hole under it.
  • Step 9. We make partitions for the drawer. To do this, we take boards with the thickness of the walls of the box and paste them as we see fit.
  • Step 10. Insert the box into the chest. If it enters with difficulty, its side walls should be sanded.
  • Step 11 We make and glue the bottom and partitions for the top drawer.
  • Step 12 We fasten the lid and the back wall of the box with the help of loops.
  • Step 13. We decorate the box at our discretion. Now we know from beginning to end how to make a wooden box with our own hands.

Carved boxes

Since ancient times, carvings have been used to decorate chests, so carved wooden boxes are very popular. On the chest we created, this technique will look quite harmonious.

If you are a beginner and wood carving is unfamiliar or new to you, then use a geometric and large pattern, as it is easier. You should stock up on a chisel, knives and a drill. You can find more detailed lessons in a separate master class. If you consider yourself a professional in the field of carving, then you can choose openwork or sculptural carving - it looks much more elegant.

Making a wooden box

Develop, create, create. Success in creative work!

Let's try to make such an object as a wooden box with your own hands. How useful is this accessory? Carved wood boxes are perfect for storing small souvenirs and small collectible items such as stamps or coins. They will decorate the interior and give it a touch of originality.

Master Class. Do-it-yourself wooden boxes

We will make the box from a sheet of plywood 8 mm thick as the most available material. First, you should make sure that the plywood that we are going to use, with a flat surface, does not contain delaminations, traces of knots and other minor defects. The texture pattern should be uniform, then the sheet can be easily cut without fear that pieces of veneer will break off during operation.

Well, let's start. First of all, a drawing of our future product should be applied to the prepared surface - a diagram of a wooden box. To do this, take a pencil and simple drawing devices such as a ruler and a compass. If there is a finished drawing that needs to be scaled, take care of the accuracy of drawing each corner and line. Correct and neatly executed drawing of a wooden box - necessary condition success.

Rectangular elements allow the plywood sheet to be used most economically. With a successful layout, there will be almost no unnecessary scraps.

We cut out correctly

Then, with a jigsaw, we begin the procedure for carefully cutting out all the main parts - the lid, bottom and walls. The smoother our thread, the more accurate the contour of the part we will get, resulting in a reduction in the time of the file.

Particular care should be taken when cutting along the border line of neighboring parts. If it goes askew, then immediately both parts will be damaged, or you will have to trim both of them later.

After this, the most crucial stage begins, associated with the fine work. It's about about sawing joints in the form of joiner's spikes. For our small box, small square spikes of a simple shape are suitable. Their height should correspond to the thickness of the plywood sheet, that is, in our case, equal to 8 millimeters.

Which tool to choose

As a rule, they are cut out. But we can also take a jigsaw or Its blade is great for working with wood, as it almost does not bend.

If you have chosen a jigsaw, they should cut almost along the intended line. The indent towards the section to be cut off in size should not exceed one or two millimeters. A small excess of wood is later easier to remove with a file.

Thus, we have made straight cuts. To connect them, we bring the jigsaw to the edge and carefully turn it 90 degrees. At the same time, their movement up and down does not stop.

In the same way, we cut out and remove all unnecessary fragments. The quality of this stage of work depends on how durable and reliable our future product will be. If at this stage we inadvertently spoil the workpiece, we will have to start all over again.

Now you're covered

Now let's move on to cutting out the lid on our box. Undoubtedly, such work is much easier to do than sawing spikes. But let's not relax. Do not forget to observe the evenness of the cut and maintain a right angle between the planes of our saw blade and the surface of the plywood sheet. This is done so that subsequently there are no gaps between the cut parts of the lid and walls.

This completes the most difficult part of the work. The next task in order - a do-it-yourself wooden box should be assembled into a single whole from individual elements. If the spikes are difficult to enter the nest or do not enter at all - do not be discouraged. It's worse when they fall into it.

The subtleties of technology

Excess material can be easily filed off. It is best to choose one that has a square section. Such grinding should be carried out in small portions with constant fitting of parts relative to each other.

To make the fit as accurate as possible, it should be done on a table or other flat surface. For greater reliability, the walls should be put on glue. Parts must be pressed against each other for at least a short period of time.

It is most convenient to do this with a vice or clamp. When doing this, do not forget to insert a small wooden spacer between the product and the steel surface of the tool.

Do-it-yourself wooden box: fix the lid

Having fastened the walls of the box, we will adjust and glue the bottom, as well as the lid. The lid of our box will be attached to the body with small metal hinges that are easy to buy at any hardware store. You can purchase small hinges in the amount of 2 or 3 pieces or one long hinge for furniture.

When working with hinges, care must be taken that they do not stick out above the surface of the product body. Therefore, at the place of attachment of each of them, the wood should be slightly selected. We take for this a jigsaw or a small saw along with a straight chisel.

To screw the hinges, you should choose small screws, the size of which will correspond to the diameter of the hole in the hinges. So that they are neatly screwed exactly in the intended place, and the plywood does not turn out to be split, a hole should be drilled in a size slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw. This difference should be no more than one or two millimeters.

Don't forget the castle

From the outside, it is desirable to provide the box with some kind of locking mechanism in the form of, for example, a padlock, hook or latch. This will help preserve the contents and prevent the box from opening at the most unexpected moment.

All such parts are fastened in the same way as hinges with small screws into holes pre-drilled for them. If the material of the box is wood, not plywood, even inserting a small furniture lock is allowed.

Basically the product is ready. We hope that our project: "Wooden Boxes" turned out to be successful, and the product turned out to be neat and outwardly attractive. If this is not so - do not be upset. A beginner who first undertakes the creation of such a masterpiece rarely succeeds immediately.

About possible disadvantages

A do-it-yourself wooden box does not have to be perfect the first time. Most often, the final version shows us unexpected omissions. Most noticeable are annoying gaps between insufficiently tightly fitted elements. Having found something similar, do not give in to the first impulse - to get rid of an unsuccessful craft. It would be wiser to carefully consider the product, analyze where the mistake was made, and take into account this useful experience.

As for the future fate of our product, much can be fixed here. For example, cracks may well be sealed and masked. After all, there are many clever tricks.

The easiest option is to take a ready-made wood putty and cover it with unwanted cracks. You can independently prepare the so-called basis of which will be the glue used in the work. This option is also suitable if we want to veneer our box with veneer.

In addition, the product can be coated with drying oil or painted. In the latter case, after filling the parts, we additionally prime them before painting.

Decorate our craft

But making a rectangular box and calling it a box is not all. The product must be decorated, and it is best to do this with the help of carvings.

The carved box is a true work of art. Exist different types wooden boxes. In former times, many of them were carefully stored in every house. After all, people have been fond of woodcarving with the creation of a wide variety of geometric patterns for a long time.

In Russian villages, most wooden products, from furniture to dishes, was decorated with elaborate carvings. Such decor was always based on an ordinary geometric pattern, and the aesthetic effect exceeded all expectations. Boxes carved from wood were created by real masters of their craft, they were strong and durable.

Learning to work with wood

If you do not yet own the techniques of geometric carving, it's time to learn. It's not that difficult at all. And in order not to spoil our finished, so diligently made box, we will first practice on a separate piece of wood - for example, on a cutting board.

Tools for this procedure will require the most simple. You and I will quite manage to get by with just two knives: the so-called pen-knife and a triangular-shaped joint-knife, as well as a ruler, a pencil and a compass.

A pen knife is taken when it is required to cut an elongated element, for example, a petal or a sufficiently long gutter. It is also used for small slots.

The second tool is used to cut through various geometric shapes, mostly triangular in shape, as well as straight long lines. Each of the knives must be sharp and have a comfortable handle.

Geometric thread technology

Immediately before starting work, a sketch of the future pattern should be applied to the board. You can draw it with a pencil using a ruler and a compass. And you can use a ready-made stencil, transferring the drawing to the board with a carbon paper.

Let's say our ornament contains floral motifs. It is with them that you should start working. The technology is simple: the thumb is pressed against the board as tightly as possible, and the index finger lightly touches it in the region of the upper joint. This is how holding the knife, you have the ability to control and change the angle of its inclination and the depth of immersion in the wood. With the help of the thumb, the blade moves smoothly and accurately.

Having cut through one side of the element, the board should be turned over and a similar operation should be done on the opposite side. Please note: if the shavings from under the knife curl like a “string”, it means that the tools are sharpened quite well.

How to cut geometric shapes

Elements in the form of triangles and other similar figures are cut out with a joint knife. We cut his heel into the wood at an inclination of about 45 degrees, while not bringing it to the edge of the pattern. We repeat the operation from different sides of the geometric element.

We join all the slots on the sides. As a result, the cut piece of wood falls out of the board. The remains of wood that could not be cut off with a knife are evenly and carefully cleaned.

By the same principle, we cut out all the other elements of the picture. At the end of the process, we take sandpaper and carefully grind everything. You can carry out additional processing with natural impregnation.

So we learned the simplest methods of woodcarving. In the future, with an increase in the number of crafts and, accordingly, experience, our skill will increase. We will be able to make wooden boxes, not only varnished or painted in various colors, but also decorated with an extraordinary fantasy ornament that will look simply luxurious.

Any work with wood is always exciting, because there is an opportunity not only to show your own imagination, but also to make a thing that fully meets your needs and tastes. Agree, it's nice when the house has a thing made by hand. If, for example, you take care of how to make a wooden box with your own hands, you can get a useful and beautiful accessory! This box can be used to store collectible coins, jewelry, and other small items. The thing, in a word, is convenient.

The nuances of making wooden boxes

There are various ways to make a wooden box. A simple method that is best suited for beginners involves the use of a sheet of plywood, which must be carefully leveled and machined from different kind defects. After preparing the surface, it is marked in accordance with the drawing of the future box, which will require a ruler, a compass and a pencil.

On a note! It is important to accurately work out the product scheme, because the quality of the final result will largely depend on this stage.

For maximum savings in consumables, all the elements of the box can be made rectangular - so there will be almost nothing superfluous left.

After checking the applied markings, the walls, cover and bottom of the structure are cut out. It is important to cut very carefully to obtain the most even contours. Otherwise, due to negligence, you will have to re-manufacture damaged parts.

After that, the parts must be connected. It is best to use carpentry spikes for connection. If the box is small, the spikes can be regular square ones (their height should be the same as the thickness of the plywood sheet).

If you cut out all the blanks and removed unnecessary fragments from them with a file, then you can rejoice - the most difficult part of the work is behind you! Now it remains to build a box of finished parts. The spikes are hammered into the sockets (if necessary - if they do not enter - the excess is filed off). It is recommended to lubricate the walls with glue for greater strength, and then firmly connect them to each other, which is traditionally done with a vice.

The bottom of the product is planted along the edges with glue, after which it is pressed against the walls and held for some time. To fix the cover, you will need small metal loops. This is how the simplest wooden boxes are made. Having finished with the manufacture, you can proceed to the decorative design.

How to make a box?

To decorate the product, you can varnish it or paint it. Some prefer carved boxes (such as in the photo below) or made using decoupage technology. In any case, the final result will depend on the creative abilities and imagination of the master.

About carved boxes

To perform such woodwork, you should prepare:

  • oblique knife;
  • pencil;
  • pen knife;
  • compass;
  • ruler.

If you need to cut oblong-shaped parts, a pen knife is used for work. It is more convenient to cut geometric shapes and straight lines with an oblique knife.

On a note! The required pattern must first be applied to the wood, for which you can use a ruler with a compass or a stencil. If a piece cannot be cut with a knife, then stripping will be required. Having finished with cutting, it remains only to grind the product with “sandpaper”.

A few words about the castle

To make the finished product look more elegant, it can be decorated with a hook or lock. To fix various locks, usually small screws are used, as is the case with hinges). Thanks to this, the box will remain closed, and what it contains will be hidden from prying eyes.

Video - Making a wooden box

Option number 1. Beautiful wooden box

Let's start with a simple one - with the plywood box mentioned above.

To make it, prepare:

  • eight-layer plywood;
  • milling cutter, miter cutter and cutter 45 degrees;
  • polymer glue;
  • gold paint;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • acrylic varnish;
  • sandpaper;
  • gas burner;
  • putty;
  • screws;
  • 2 loops.

Electric jigsaw

Step 1. To begin with, future blanks are marked on the plywood sheet (these are 4 walls, 1 bottom, 1 lid and 4 lid walls).

Step 2 All details are cut with electric jigsaw. Although it is better - if possible - to use a circular saw (so the cuts will be smoother).

Step 3 The edges of the blanks are milled at an angle of 45 degrees - this is how plywood layers will be visible from the outside.

Step 4 The surfaces of the blanks are carefully processed with sandpaper, all flaws are eliminated.

Step 5 On a flat work surface, a box is created from the walls. It is better to use polymer glue for this - it sets quickly enough and has good viscosity.

Step 6 The walls of the lid are connected in the same way.

Step 7 The walls of the lid are trimmed flush with the box until the glue is completely frozen.

Step 8 The result is the following design, which relatively clearly demonstrates how the box will look like.

Step 9 The joints are putty. By the way, if a milling table were used (and in our example it was not), then there would be no gaps, since manipulations with small details would not be carried out on weight.

Step 10 Details are sanded already on putty.

Step 12 Seats are selected using a miter cutter.

Step 13 Here's what you should get. You can guess.

Step 14 Metal hinges are fixed with screws.

Note! Before screwing the hinges, the holes for the screws are made in advance, and with a slightly smaller diameter drill! Otherwise, the plywood may break due to screwing in.

Step 15 The loops are removed. The product is carefully fired, while it is important not to overheat it (otherwise the walls will lead with a screw).

Step 16 The hinges are reinstalled. The cover of the product is covered with acrylic varnish. Then the box is pasted over with masking tape, as in the photo below, and the edges are painted with a sponge.

Step 17 You can decorate the box with some pattern. In our example, this is a hieroglyph, previously printed on paper and cut out (it turned out to be a homemade stencil).

Step 18 The stencils are stuffed, after which you need to wait for some time for the drawings to dry.

Step 19 Actually, that's all. Homemade box is ready!

Now you can put something in it and put it in the allotted place.

Option number 2. Original double-walled box

Making such a box is much more difficult, but we will help you figure it out.

Step 1. On the pre-processed workpiece, you need to draw cut lines with a pencil. And here one should take into account important point: during the transfer of the sketch, it is imperative that the longitudinal orientation of the fibers is observed!

Step 2 An even longitudinal part is cut off from the workpiece (its thickness should be 1.5-2 cm). This part will serve as a product cover in the future.

Step 4 After that, the part is cut into 2 parts and the inner waste part is cut out. Thus, a conical cavity of the product is formed.

Step 5 The halves are glued back together. Thanks to this, by the way, internal stress is also removed, cracking and deformation of the product are prevented. The glue should be applied in a thin layer, and all excess inside should be carefully removed.

Step 6 The glued parts are placed under the clamps. In this case, you need to carefully monitor that there are no distortions and displacements.

Step 7 The table returns to a horizontal position, a pair of slices is cut off from the waste part. This will be the bottom and lid of the future product.

Step 8 The interior of the box is painted. It is more convenient to paint at this stage, while there is free access from both sides.

Step 9 The table returns to the inclined position again, after which cuts are made along the outer contour.

Step 10 Glue is applied to the ends of the bottom with a thin layer, then it is inserted into the lower part of the product (you need to press it all the way with your fingers).

Step 11 The elements of the cover are glued to the workpiece, cut off at the initial stages of work.

Step 12 When the glue dries, the main contour of the cover is outlined, after which this part is cut out.

Note! The technique described above is universal, because it makes it possible to experiment with shapes and design, making original and beautiful boxes with your own hands.

Option number 3. Simple walnut box

The same steps must be performed when making another project - a wooden box with four walls. Having an unusual design and curved shape, such a box will look really modern and stylish!

Option number 4. Concave lid product

Option number 5. Box of ice cream sticks

To make such a box suitable for storing various little things, prepare:

  • ice cream sticks (29 pieces);
  • scissors;
  • acrylic paints (requires 2 colors);
  • ruler;
  • corrugated cardboard;
  • pencil;
  • satin ribbon;
  • hot glue.

Step 1. To begin with, the sticks are painted in 2 colors (choose them yourself). Since we have an odd number of them, it is divisible by 15 and 14.

Step 2 A pair of rectangles (70x55 mm) and a pair of semicircles (height - 30 mm, base - 70 mm) are cut out of corrugated cardboard, after which the cut parts are painted.

Step 3 For the bottom, 7 sticks are used, laid out with alternating colors. To prevent the sticks from moving, they can be temporarily fixed in the center with adhesive tape.

Step 4 Cardboard rectangles are glued on the sides.

Glue gun

Step 6 Another 10 sticks are glued onto semicircles - as a result, the lid of the future box is obtained.

Everything, now you can get acquainted with how the product will look like.

Step 7 Cut out strips of satin ribbon. Further, the ends of the cardboard are glued with these strips.

Step 8 A couple of pieces of tape are glued to the lid of the product, but in such a way that the edges hang down on one side by about 20 mm. These hanging edges are glued to the box, resulting in a kind of "loops" through which the lid will open.

  • PVA glue;
  • acrylic paint;
  • brushes;
  • scissors;

At the first stage, the box is prepared for decoration. The surface must be perfectly smooth, as subsequently all defects may become more noticeable. When the product is prepared and dried, you can proceed to the design:

  1. Cut and try on elements of the composition from napkins or fabric.
  2. Attach the cutout to the surface and carefully apply the glue, smoothing the paper from the center to the edges. If fabric is used in the decoupage technique, then glue will not work, it is better to take a stapler and attach the fabric to the inner lining of the box.
  3. Dry the product.
  4. Coat with varnish (if using fabric, this step is not necessary).

Using the decoupage technique, the box can be decorated both outside and inside.

Advice! For decoupage, you can use various photos. But first it is better to remove the bottom layer so that the paper is thinner.

painting

To paint a product, it is not necessary to have the talent of an artist. In addition, stencils can be used to decorate the box. You can choose absolutely any image, it all depends on your imagination and preferences. For work you will need:

  • box or box;
  • primer;
  • acrylic paints;
  • brushes;
  • stencil (you can make it yourself or buy it in a specialized store);
  • masking tape;
  • sandpaper.

Advice! It is better to pre-treat the box with sandpaper and varnish.

One of the features of the shabby chic style is floral motifs.

Stylish box made using decoupage technique

The work includes several stages:

  1. Primer coating.
  2. Sanding.
  3. Tape the bottom corners.
  4. Finished with light acrylic paint.

Important! Acrylic is applied evenly.

  1. After drying, the surface is treated with sandpaper and a layer of paint is applied a tone darker. This layer should be liquid so that you can then wet it with a sponge, giving the surface a texture.
  2. Fix the base with varnish.
  3. Masking tape covers the parts of the box that will not be decorated.
  4. The selected stencil is fixed.
  5. The drawing is carefully painted over. The paint should be thick, water is used in a minimal amount.

Perhaps, after drying, the drawing will have to be repainted, since the first time the color is likely to be pale. If the stencil is a small element of the composition, then the action will have to be repeated several times. After the painting has dried, the box is varnished.

This master class allows you to create a product whose surface looks like fabric. This is achieved due to the fact that between the main layers the box is varnished, and the paint does not impregnate the wood.

This type of decoration of the box will be an excellent addition to the interior or an original gift.

Volumetric decor

The next master class is devoted to creating volumetric decor with your own hands. Here again the decoupage technique will be used. For work you will need:

  • casket;
  • printout of the picture in two copies (on glossy and matte photo paper);
  • acrylic paints (it is better to choose glossy);
  • putty;
  • palette knife;
  • sandpaper;
  • acrylic paints of different colors;
  • brushes of different numbers (No. 1 - a must!);
  • felt on an adhesive basis;
  • lace, ribbons;
  • thick glue;
  • scissors;
  • primer;
  • masking tape;
  • transparent, quick-drying and reliable glue (you can use "Moment").

The surface is pre-prepared with sandpaper. On the this stage it is worth considering that the paint will give a certain thickness to the walls and the lid may not close tightly. Therefore, at the junction, it is necessary to sand the tree especially carefully. After that, the surface is primed.

Shabby chic style combines a large number of details

Decorating the box with beads will make it brighter and more presentable.

Provence blue box

Registration is carried out in several stages:

Advice! If folds cannot be avoided, then you can drive them away to different leaves or flower petals, and then “hide” them behind the drawing.

  1. The dried surface is fixed with varnish.
  2. To create volume, putty or structural paste is applied to certain elements of the pattern. The layer should not exceed three millimeters. Leave an indent from the edge.
  3. The bulges are treated with sandpaper.
  4. From the second drawing, images are cut out along the contour, which should be three-dimensional and glued to the lid.
  5. After drying, the contours are drawn with acrylic paints.
  6. The rest of the product is decorated and varnished.

Thanks to the master class, you can easily make an original box with a three-dimensional pattern with your own hands.
