Doctor of Medical Sciences Valentin PROZOROVSKY.

The ability to work and performance in the medical sense of these expressions are not the same thing. The ability to work is impaired even if the shoe is tight or the tooth hurts. It is relatively easy to deal with a boot and even a tooth, but it is difficult to deal with a decrease in working capacity or chronic fatigue syndrome.

We will be discussing a special condition called chronic fatigue syndrome. It's not exactly a disease, but it's definitely not health, but somewhere in between. The boundaries are vague: closer to health - asthenia (weakness) after illness or over the years, and closer to illness - reactive depression. Unfortunately, the term “chronic fatigue syndrome”, which is understandable to everyone, has now been replaced by another: according to the international classification, the condition under discussion has become known as a syndrome of impairment of cognitive ability, perception, emotional state and behavior. As they say, simple and tasteful.

Let's make a reservation right away: only a doctor can prescribe most of the remedies for correcting this condition. And I hope that after reading the article, you will understand why only a doctor can help you.

The causes of the syndrome are unclear. However, it has been established that it can be caused by a latent chronic disease, and prolonged exposure to infrasounds (for example, living near a freeway), as well as a reaction that occurs in response to all sorts of long-term stressful situations at home, at work, in the city, in the country.

The syndrome is manifested by a general decline in desires and strength, when nothing is wanted and cannot be done. Reactions are slow, thinking is difficult, volitional and forced by external forces activity is reduced. Emotionally, this state is often accompanied by inhibition in the form of general depression and drowsiness, less often - by agitation with insomnia and outbursts of irritation, but in both cases - with a deterioration in mood in the form of depression.

Let's start with the last one. Emotions are from the field of psychopharmacology. It has long been believed that the task of psychiatrists is to prescribe drugs that would inhibit excitation and excite inhibition. However, in the case of chronic fatigue syndrome (we call it the old way for short), this is not suitable. Such sedatives as valerian and similar herbal preparations, corvalol in company with sleeping pills, phenazepam and other diazepines, do not calm, but only increase asthenia.

With chronic fatigue syndrome, outbursts of irritability are associated with a painful experience of one's condition. It is for such cases that pharmacologists have a completely harmless drug - the amino acid glycine. It facilitates memorization, improves reaction when driving a car, does not have a hypnotic effect.

Weakness from excitement has long been known: in the acute form, it prevents you from achieving records in sports, and in the chronic form, it leads to the loss of the ability to concentrate and to a decrease in mental performance. Of the soft, so-called daytime, sedatives of general action, nootropic (from the Greek noos - mind and tropos - direction) preparations phenibut, pyriditol, acephen, picamilon are more suitable for such a case. They not only soothe, but also improve memory and thinking. However, the popular nootropil (piracetam) belonging to the same group of substances is a mild stimulant and is suitable in case of depression.

Now let's move on to activators, that is, activating substances. Most of the common stimulants known to mankind for many millennia are tea, coffee and cocoa.

The tea bush grew in the place where, according to legend, the preacher of Buddhism, Bodhidharma, who arrived in China from India, threw his severed eyelids on the ground so as not to fall asleep. The leaves of the plant helped the preacher work day and night for many years. The sage called the bush "tzai-ye". Having migrated to Mongolia, the plant began to be called "tsai", and came to Russia (under Alexei Mikhailovich) already under the name "tea". The great N. I. Vavilov established that the tea bush appeared in Indochina, and three varieties originated from it: Vietnamese, Chinese and Indian, and then others.

The beginning of the 19th century was marked by the emergence of pure form many valuable plant substances, called "alkaloids". One of the first was caffeine, obtained in 1821 by the German chemist F. F. Runge from coffee beans. It is believed that coffee has more caffeine than tea, but this is not true. There may even be more caffeine in tea leaves than in coffee beans, but tea is only brewed, and coffee is brewed. Out of habit, people associate coffee only with caffeine, tea with theophylline, and cocoa with theobromine.

The effect of caffeine on the central nervous system was studied in detail by IP Pavlov, who for five years headed the Department of Pharmacology at the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg. He showed that caffeine in large doses instead of activation causes suppression of reflexes and disruption of higher nervous activity. Passion for very strong tea (chifir) causes theism - one of the forms of drug addiction, which leads to damage to the heart muscle, and addiction to coffee - caffeinism, which causes a violation of mental abilities. Now caffeine is known primarily as a means of activating a tired brain. He is a psycho-energizer, although initially he was considered a means of stimulating cardiac activity. To excite something excites, but this is why it is dangerous. Cocoa, and because of it, chocolate, also excites. That is why it should not be given to children. That is why they are treated to guests, especially inhibited ladies.

It is curious that caffeine is synthesized in so many plants: guarana grows in the wilds of the Amazon, holly (mate) in Paraguay, and cola in Africa. Huge Russia does not have such plants. We will not be sad, we have our own. In the taiga part of Siberia, from time immemorial, hunters wandered around for days. The hunter is tired - not tired, but do not sleep, go. The same is true in the mountains. They left for a long time, ate pasture. And they found a plant - ephedra. It grows in the Urals, the Caucasus and the Crimean mountains. Another species of this plant was found in the Volga region, which is popularly called Kuzmich grass in memory of the famous local healer.

In 1882, the Japanese chemist V. Nagai isolated the active principle from ephedra - the alkaloid ephedrine. It enhances the influence of the sympathetic nerves and adrenaline on the vessels and bronchi, and, like adrenaline, the first narrows, and the second expands. Hence the main use of ephedrine in the common cold and bronchial asthma. The use of the new alkaloid in the clinic began only in the 20s of the last century. Unlike adrenaline (contained in the adrenal cortex), it acts for a relatively long time and penetrates well into the brain, exerting on it not so much an exciting, but an activating, awakening effect.

The need for funds "from fatigue" was experienced not only and not so much by the clinic as by the army. In reconnaissance, in a submarine, in a long-range bomber, you don’t get much sleep. Ephedrine to enhance vigor acted briefly and weakly. The duration of action of the substance is determined by the presence or absence of hydroxyl groups in the ring, and the effect on the central nervous system is determined by the presence of additional methyl groups in the chain. It was this fact that chemists took advantage of, and the drug amphetamine was synthesized in the USA, then benzedrine in Germany, then in the USSR, but under the name "phenamin" and then all over the world under different names. During the Second World War, this substance was widely used in the armies of the warring countries. In the clinic, it was initially used as an activator and antidepressant, then only for diseases and conditions accompanied by depression and decreased activity, and for obesity, since it suppressed appetite.

Subsequently, it turned out that phenamine and its derivatives cause mass side effects, in particular, disrupt the functions of the heart muscle, increase blood pressure and cause a pronounced "rebound phenomenon" - after the activation of the body, its deep depression occurs. In connection with the ability to lead to drug addiction, it is practically not used and is on a special account.

Fortunately, we have not yet reached the European level in the distribution of drugs, but we are definitely catching up quickly. In a word, the business "your night - add fire!" flourishes. Why be embarrassed, even if in the cultural capital of Russia - St. Petersburg, the drug nicotine is advertised on every corner.

The famous psychiatrist Sigmud Freud, long before the discovery of the method of psychoanalysis, treated patients with cocaine, popular at the beginning of the last century, as an antidepressant. Depression gave way to drug addiction, which Freud himself did not escape. It is pointless to use "big" (strong) antidepressants for fatigue and depressed mood - they are only suitable for the treatment of depressive psychosis. While chronic fatigue is similar to depression, it is different. However, after consulting with your doctor, you can try "small" (weak) antidepressants that are effective for reactive depression: azafen - calming, sidnofen - activating. And sydnokarb, rather, is only a mild activator of higher nervous activity, a substitute for phenamine, which eliminates chronic fatigue and increases efficiency. Does not cause euphoria and drug addiction.

Russian pharmacologists received the drug bemitil, which is considered an actoprotector (a new class of physical performance stimulants), which not only excites, but increases impaired mental and physical performance even with a single use. Completely harmless. Actoprotectors are especially useful for restoring activity after debilitating diseases (in some cases, the period of decline in strength after an illness can be delayed, taking on the character of an independent pathology). In this group, the most popular drug is mildronate. It is also used to increase endurance to physical exertion. As it turned out, it is chemically similar to the relatively recently discovered vitamin-like substance carnitine, which is even called vitamin B t - the growth vitamin. He is able to increase muscle mass while breaking down fat. In addition, it protects nerve cells from destruction (apoptosis), which is observed both in diseases and in aging. It is usually prescribed for growth retardation, exhaustion, severe illness, after myocardial infarction.

A new drug epoetin has appeared, close to the hormone erythropoietin, which can increase the production of red blood cells and thereby improve the body's oxygen supply and cope with types of anemia that were previously incurable. And where there is anemia, there is chronic fatigue.

And yet again we will return to plant medicines to help with chronic fatigue. The next group came from Amur China and from the Ussuri taiga. The famous "root-man" - ginseng - was first mentioned in the Chinese pharmacopoeia of 1596. In Russia, it has long been used by hunters, but formally it became known in 1875 according to the description of the Russian ambassador to China. Ginseng still remains the king of nervous system tonics, but it rules along with many close, but not identical relatives. The effect in the form of an increase in all types of performance and potency occurs after a few days, sometimes weeks, after the start of the intake. Another advantage is that even at the peak of action, a person does not experience a subjective sensation of excitement. Ginseng weakens the effect of sleeping pills and can cause sleep disturbance, but addiction and addiction to it does not happen. Ginseng ginseng powder is more active and bioginseng is less active. Contraindications to the appointment of these drugs are an excited state, insomnia, bleeding. Blood pressure is not increased, but in the presence of hypertension should be taken under medical supervision. Like all drugs in this group, ginseng should not be taken at the end of the day.

The most active of the "brothers and sisters" of ginseng is Rhodiola rosea, which is popularly called the "golden root" (not by value, but by color). In addition to general indications, as a tonic, it is used for arterial hypotension, some neuroses, and to restore strength after serious illnesses. Close to Rhodiola, but less active Manchurian Aralia. Saparal tablets are obtained from it. Compared with the above plants Schisandra chinensis, Eleutherococcus prickly and Leuzea safflower are less active. One of the active principles of ecdysten was isolated from leuzea, which, in addition to its tonic effect, has the ability to accelerate protein synthesis and for this reason it is especially indicated for use after debilitating diseases, in old age, and for young people with increased training. Doping is not considered.

One of the largest pharmacologists in our country, academician N.V. Lazarev, called all preparations from these plants adaptogens (generating adaptation) for the reason that they make a person more efficient, more resistant to all kinds of loads and to any harmful ones, including infectious ones. , influences. He believed that they awaken his “inner doctor” in a person, like morning exercises and hardening. cold water. That is why it is pointless to drink a bottle of ginseng tincture, best effect achieved with its long-term use in small doses.

Synthetic adaptogens include Dibazol, proposed by Academician S.V. Anichkov as an antispasmodic and antihypertensive agent. Later it turned out that it also increases immunity. Academician I.P. Ashmarin proposed Semax oligopeptide as a nootropic and adaptive agent. Since this drug breaks down into individual amino acids in the stomach, it is administered by nose drops.

We have discussed universal psychomyo-energizers - drugs that increase the strength and mobility of nervous processes and muscle strength. But there are symptomatic drugs: they eliminate hypotension, dilate blood vessels and improve metabolism in the brain. These include many vitamins, especially thiamine - B 1, riboflavin - B 2, nicotinic acid - B 3 and PP, cyanocobalamin - B 12, pangamic acid - B 15, orotic acid.

And, of course, hormones. Often, very common hypothyroidism (a malfunction of the thyroid gland) is accompanied by weakness. It is treated with iodine preparations (iodides), potassium and sodium. But they, and even more so thyroid hormones, are allowed to be taken only as directed and under the supervision of a doctor. Sex hormones are a source of both strength and energy, therefore such activators as retabolil, phenobolin and others are doping and are not for sale (should not be sold). The need for them arises in addition to diseases with natural hypogonadism (insufficient secretion of hormones) in women - in menopause, that is, after 55 years, it is necessary, in men - later (someone is hormonally active even at 100). Women lose in hormones, win in longevity. But without a doctor, hormones cannot be taken.

All the means that we talked about work, but ... the main thing is movement, hardening, clean air and positive emotions. True, this requires the will and favorable conditions life. And where to get them? A vicious circle that should be broken by all means, most importantly - with the help of a doctor.

Chronic fatigue or CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome), which is more convenient for anyone, is a fairly common expression in medical and near-medical circles, which is used to describe a number of pathological conditions as one of the symptoms, but practically never occurs as an independent diagnosis. Aptly and succinctly, chronic fatigue is characterized by our close neighbors - Belarusians: “agul mlyavasts i abyyakavasts yes zhittsya”, which in translation means: “general lethargy (weakness) and indifference (indifference) to life”. Meanwhile, behind a short phrase lies a wide palette of not only symptoms, but also the causes that cause them. One thing is clear - experiencing constant fatigue, a person loses interest in active work and in life in general.

chronic fatigue syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome as an independent pathology appeared only at the end of the last century (1988), although, despite this, it has not yet become a separate nosological unit. This does not mean that the symptoms of the disease have not yet been encountered, and there were no people who felt constant fatigue for no reason. It’s just that CFS was called differently (a symptom of post-viral asthenia) and it was one of the symptoms belonging to such a (also quite common) disease as neurasthenia. In general, the name of the disease long years caused heated debate in the scientific world, which, in the end, decided, calling the condition chronic fatigue syndrome and immune dysfunction.

Probably, there is no person in the world who at some periods of his life did not experience complete impotence, emptiness, unwillingness not only to do some body movements, but also just to speak. All this can be normal after a hard physical work or a nervous fussy day spent with a lot of mental stress. But if a person leaves the bed in the morning already broken and tired, and this continues from day to day, from month to month, then the latter is a bad sign.

With chronic fatigue, the reluctance to continue some activity appears immediately after a night's sleep(usually defective, with frequent interruptions), so in the morning the body gives signals to the owner that he is not ready to start work, because, having taken an upright position, he is already exhausted.

Often, patients involuntarily make this diagnosis themselves, describing their condition when meeting with friends or at a doctor's appointment. When asked about their well-being, many, without hesitation, state that they have constant fatigue, which has recently exhausted me so much that it has become unbearably difficult to live and work. Hearing such an answer from a person who always walked through life with optimism, was distinguished by a wide range of interests, high work capacity, a desire to constantly do something, set tasks and solve them brilliantly, an interlocutor familiar with chronic fatigue syndrome will most likely suspect him . And if he is a doctor, then the range of questions for the patient will expand (how long does he feel a breakdown, what is the current condition connected with, what other symptoms, in addition to constant fatigue, do not let him live?).

What can be learned from questioning and inspection?

As a rule, when clarifying the anamnesis of a patient who complains of constant fatigue, depression, bad mood and low work capacity, it is possible to identify the signs of CFS:

Given that the symptoms of chronic fatigue often appear after a cold, after contacting a doctor, the patient may receive such a vague diagnosis as a feverish state of unknown origin (after all, everything seems to be normal in all organs?) Or some kind of chronic inflammatory process, also of unknown localization and etiology.

Who is more tired?

Despite the fact that fatigue syndrome acquired some independence and almost became a diagnosis, the reasons for its formation remained a mystery behind seven seals, however, it was noticed that certain categories of people are more susceptible to the occurrence of a pathological condition in them:

  1. Residents of megacities, as well as environmentally unfavorable areas (increased levels of radiation, high concentrations of chemicals);
  2. Although the disease can affect both a very young age and a very advanced one, the greatest likelihood of its development is between 20-40 years, and women among the sick make up the vast majority;
  3. More often than other professions, among patients with chronic fatigue, there are people who have chosen the specialty of a teacher or doctor;
  4. The presence of constant psycho-emotional overload significantly aggravates the situation (CFS develops earlier and more often).

The body, responding to the adverse effects of these factors, primarily relies on the active and coordinated interaction of individual systems: nervous, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal and immune. For the time being, the coordinated relations between these systems maintain some kind of balance and determine the normal resistance of the organism, however, the long-term presence of disturbing factors weakens defensive forces and the body begins to give up. This is where the mechanism for the development of increased fatigue syndrome and neuroimmunoendocrine syndrome is launched, which will become the foundation for the formation of the described pathological process (CFS).

Assumptions and facts

With regard to the etiology and pathogenesis of chronic fatigue syndrome in more specific terms, there are currently a number of theories regarding the causes and mechanisms for the development of its occurrence:

One of the causes of chronic fatigue is considered to be a cold (influenza, SARS, tonsillitis or exacerbation of chronic tonsillitis), while less importance is attached to a stressful situation. Probably, after all, an infectious agent is more harmful to the immune system than nervous strain. Meanwhile, the combination of these and other (radiation, environmental conditions, chemicals) adverse factors significantly increases the likelihood of developing the disease.

How is such a diagnosis made?

Constant fatigue, weakness, muscle pain, subfebrile condition and other symptoms characteristic of CFS can accompany other pathological conditions that, during a diagnostic search must be excluded or confirmed:

  1. Neoplasms of various localizations;
  2. Autoimmune processes;
  3. infections;
  4. Mental disorders;
  5. Neuromuscular diseases;
  6. Pathology of the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular and excretory systems, as well as blood diseases;
  7. Intolerance to certain pharmaceuticals.

If the conditions listed above are ruled out, but the symptoms of an unspecified illness remain, we can assume the presence of chronic fatigue syndrome, where to big criteria its diagnosis can be attributed to constant fatigue for a long time (more than six months) and a decrease in labor activity by half (50%), that is, the patient can only work somehow for about four hours.

To minor diagnostic criteria, which complement the large ones and are decisive, include:

  • Constant, but not high fever (usually not higher than 38.5 ° C);
  • Long recovery time after hard (physical) work (more than a day);
  • discomfort, pain, sore throat (pharyngitis);
  • Painful and enlarged up to 20 mm in Ø lymph nodes (mainly cervical and axillary);
  • Weakness extending to the entire muscular system of the body;
  • Pain in all muscles and joints;
  • Painful and unusual (different from those that were before) headaches and;
  • Depression, bad mood, impaired memory and attention, difficulty in mental activity;
  • and in the daytime;
  • Acute onset of the disease.

Of course, the verdict regarding chronic fatigue syndrome on one symptom is not passed, it is generally quite difficult to establish such a diagnosis, because in addition to the presence of some large and small criteria, it is necessary to take into account the number of signs, their ratio and the presence of other factors (etiological, for example). However, nothing terrible will happen if the patient himself determines the disease and then, emphasizing constant fatigue, will strive to get rid of it by developing a program for himself that provides for a healthy lifestyle.

You can try to get rid of the misfortune on your own

You can try to get rid of constant fatigue on your own, unless, of course, it was really formed from the “crazy” rhythm of life and the nervous strain associated with it, and not due to the etiological factors of CFS (viruses, ecology, harmful substances).

After analyzing your lifestyle and making sure that “it is (a) to blame (a)”, you need to draw up an action plan for at least the next month (what if you like it?):

  1. Set yourself a task sleeping mode observe strictly. A quality night's sleep (at least 7 hours) with falling asleep no later than 11 pm in a room with darkened windows, but an open window and on a bed with a hard but comfortable mattress.
  2. Minimize the impact of external stimuli, creating stressful situations, avoid conflicts if possible, try not to succumb to provocations, count to 10 before allowing yourself to be drawn into a “showdown”.
  3. Office workers- potential "victims" of chronic fatigue syndrome due to the abundance of causative factors in the office: a computer, a sitting position, strain on the organs of vision, the constant flow of new information that requires "turning on the brain", and a lack of fresh air (air conditioning does not count, it has a different purpose - to cool or heat). It is advisable for office workers to break away from the monitor every 45 minutes, go outside or sit quietly in the rest room, TV and communication in the evening social networks exclude. Allocate time for visiting the fitness center, for yoga, try to spend the weekend in outdoor activities (working in the country is also not contraindicated).
  4. People, engaged in heavy physical labor, on the contrary, they can afford a series or an interesting book in the evening, it will not hurt them.
  5. Bad habits like: alcohol, cigarettes, soft drugs should be forgotten forever. A glass of good wine on a weekend evening and on occasion should not become a system, although, of course, it is not excluded (for those who know how to drink).
  6. Diet with chronic fatigue, it should be balanced, containing a sufficient amount of vitamins and trace elements.

Tablets for chronic fatigue, which is planned to get rid of on their own - the last thing. Antidepressants, sleeping pills and other sedative drugs will be prescribed by a psychotherapist if the experiment does not work. You can independently consume vitamins, antioxidants and drink medicinal teas purchased at a pharmacy.

Symptoms that should prompt a trip to the doctor

However, they go to the doctor for a diagnosis, therefore, if the measures taken on their own do not help, you should go to the clinic and present your complaints. The reason for going there may be such signs of unhealthy changes in the body:

  • Constant fatigue, loss of strength;
  • Weight loss, loss of appetite;
  • Indifference to the outside world;
  • Obsessive desire to drink or smoke (to calm down);
  • Skin problems, allergic reactions;
  • Dizziness and severe headaches;
  • Decreased visual acuity, discomfort in the eyes;
  • Pain in the localization of the axillary and cervical lymph nodes, which are enlarged on palpation;
  • Discomfort (sometimes pain) in the throat;
  • Prolonged (within a month) fatigue, weakness, lethargy, loss of strength;
  • Tired appearance, unhealthy complexion;
  • An increase in body temperature (subfebrile condition).

In most cases, based on the complaints listed, constant fatigue is credited to (VVD,) and treatment is prescribed: vitamins, an antioxidant complex, restorative procedures, physiotherapy exercises, it is recommended to follow a diet, sleep, vigorous activity (taking into account the profession).

What could it be?

If the treatment and other measures taken do not help to overcome chronic fatigue, then, going to the doctor again, the patient should prepare for an extended examination, which includes:

  1. General clinical laboratory tests (, urine);
  2. (glucose, creatinine, bilirubin liver tests, electrolytes) + hormones;
  3. Immunogram;
  4. Temperature profile and ;
  5. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT);
  6. Consultation with an ophthalmologist (fundus), neurologist, cardiologist, gastroenterologist and other specialists;
  7. Psychological testing.

And even after such an examination, it is unlikely that it will be possible to see chronic fatigue syndrome as the main diagnosis. It is possible that another pathology will remain or be found:

  • Lack of vitamins (will reveal a specific laboratory test). Hypovitaminosis is manifested by a decrease in the body's resistance to infections, development;
  • Astheno-neurotic syndrome, which has a very rich symptomatology, but mental health suffers most often, hence depression, phobias, mood instability, anxiety, lethargy, sweating, loss of strength and other symptoms resembling CFS;
  • Encephalitis;
  • Tumor;
  • Viral infection (Epstein-Barr virus, adenovirus, enterovirus, etc.)
  • Metabolic disorders ().

Sometimes the symptoms corresponding to CFS fit a completely physiological state - pregnancy. However, increased blood pressure, weight loss, constant fatigue give rise to once again see a doctor to prevent possible complications.

How and with what does the doctor treat and what can be added at home?

If such an interesting diagnosis as chronic fatigue syndrome loomed up, and nothing else was found, then the treatment should be comprehensive, where among the priorities should be the elimination of the cause of pathological changes (most often, the fight against some kind of virus). Meanwhile, it is impossible not to notice the suffering of such important systems as the immune and nervous, so you need to try to strengthen and calm them down.

  • Vitamins are prescribed to strengthen the immune system(A, B, C, D) and trace elements in the complex, β-carotene, succinic and folic acid in which the cells immune system are very necessary to ensure their normal functioning;
  • In case of violation of the ratio of individual links of immunity, depending on the cause, the doctor prescribes immunostimulants and / or immunocorrectors. Which drugs are suitable - will show the immunogram and other blood tests; To the patient it is better not to experiment with these drugs, since you need to know exactly what causes immunodeficiency: viruses and fungal infection feel more at ease when cellular immunity is weakened, for infections of microbial origin, the humoral immune response is more important;
  • The nervous system of a patient who is accompanied by chronic fatigue throughout life, like IS, requires stabilization, so it will be useful soothing tinctures (peony, valerian, motherwort), other herbal remedies, aromatherapy;
  • Both the nervous system and the immune system are equally well suited for various activities aimed at strengthening overall health: diet, exercise therapy, massage, acupuncture, soothing (eg, pine) baths, circular showers;
  • Often, a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome needs the help of a psychotherapist. You should not be afraid of a specialist in this profile in advance (such prejudices are still alive in our society), you need to boldly go to the doctor - only he knows what synthetic antidepressants and sleeping pills will be effective in each specific case. (it's definitely not worth doing self-assignment here).

Treatment at home (in such cases, as a rule, a hospital stay is not provided) is often supplemented with folk remedies - infusions and decoctions of various representatives of the flora, prepared with one's own hands in one's kitchen, as well as some products.

After hard physical work rosehip, lemon, propolis restores strength well.

Intense mental work requires chocolate (black bitter), walnuts and exotics (avocado) - not very folk remedies, but quite tasty and uplifting. It is possible, however, to improve memory by other methods: grate horseradish, insist elecampane on vodka and eat fresh pine buds raw.

The body's resistance to infectious agents increases currant, honey, wild rose.

nervous activity stimulates eleutherococcus, rhodiola rosea, ginseng, aralia, manchurian, sugar kelp (seaweed).

Raging emotions soothes valerian, hawthorn, motherwort, mint.

Folk recipes that involve insisting on vodka, brewing, straining and other manipulations performed in the manufacture of medicines are not always convenient (and there is no strength for anything), therefore it is better for people with constant fatigue to purchase ready-made medicinal herbs in a pharmacy and drink instead of tea ( chamomile, lime blossom, lemon balm) - tasty and healthy.

Chronic fatigue is a completely natural physiological reaction of the human body associated with the formation of neurosis of the ganglionic nervous system, due to the inhibition of the function of the zone responsible for the processes of inhibition. The factors provoking the occurrence of the syndrome in question include an unbalanced intellectual load and emotional overstrain along with a decrease in physical activity. It is believed that residents of megacities, individuals whose work is associated with responsibility (for example, air traffic controllers), businessmen are at risk. There are a number of factors contributing to the occurrence of this syndrome, namely the unfavorable sanitary and ecological environment, various ailments and viral infections. This ailment during periods of exacerbation is manifested by apathy, depressive states, causeless attacks of aggression.

Causes of drowsiness and chronic fatigue

The modern frantic pace of life, especially in megacities, forces some to strive forward by any means, to achieve everything planned, despite the exhaustion of the body, manifested in increased drowsiness and fatigue.

What causes chronic fatigue, what is lacking in the body, the reasons that provoke a breakdown and excessive craving for sleep are presented below.

Oxygen deficiency in the room can be a factor provoking the development of the described violation. Since the feeling of drowsiness directly depends on the amount of inhaled oxygen "cocktail". The less O2 an individual inhales, the less oxygen is transported with the blood to the cells of the body. Most organs do not particularly suffer from its deficiency, but brain cells are quite sensitive to the deficiency of such an important chemical element and react even with a slight decrease in the O2 content in the blood. Therefore, lack of oxygen can be the main cause of increased drowsiness and constant fatigue. Yawning is considered the first sign of hypoxia. Often, to eliminate drowsiness and fatigue, it is enough just to regularly ventilate the room where the person is located. most days. In addition, you need to spend more time outdoors.

Observing one's own condition, one can often notice the appearance of drowsiness in cloudy weather before rain or during it, when the atmospheric air pressure is below average. This is due to the body's response to the "quirks" of nature by lowering the heart rate and blood pressure. The result of a slow heartbeat is a decrease in the amount of oxygen transported by the blood. Here the mechanism of occurrence of drowsiness is similar to the previous one.

However, natural disasters do not affect everyone. There is a variety of people who love rainy weather and do not experience symptoms of reduced oxygen supply. Basically healthy. human body should not be affected by changes in the weather and respond with a change in mental or physiological state.

The causes of chronic fatigue should also be sought in the disruption of the functioning of the body, due to the presence of any ailments.

Causes of drowsiness and chronic fatigue can be caused by being constantly in a stressful situation. Stress is a common cause of fatigue due to increased production of the hormone cortisol. Its excess just leads to a feeling of constant fatigue and even exhaustion.

Drinking large amounts of coffee daily can produce the opposite effect instead of cheerfulness. Therefore, you should try to drink no more than two cups of this aromatic drink.

A constant feeling of fatigue, drowsiness, fatigue may indicate the presence of various serious ailments. Therefore, having noticed this feeling, which occurs even with a slight mental or physical exertion, you should immediately undergo a comprehensive examination.

So, for example, often increased fatigue and a moderate decrease in mental performance are almost the only manifestations of hepatitis C, which doctors call a gentle killer due to the absence of symptoms and the severity of the consequences.

Also, fatigue that occurs after simple work or fatigue due to walking with an easy step may indicate hidden heart diseases, such as myocarditis, acute heart failure.

So, for example, teas with echinacea and chamomile will increase immunity, have a calming effect, improve sleep. For lovers of sweet drinks, it is recommended to add honey instead of sugar. You just need to remember that honey loses all its beneficial properties at a liquid temperature of more than 40 ° C, and in addition, some of its constituent substances turn into carcinogens under the influence of high temperatures.

It will help relieve chronic fatigue, add strength, improve mood, increase the body's resistance composition of natural honey, whole lemon and walnuts. To prepare the composition, you need to grind a glass of peeled nuts together with one lemon and add one hundred grams of natural honey. All ingredients must be mixed thoroughly. To prepare, you need to mix one teaspoon of chamomile with a glass of homemade milk and bring the mixture to a boil. After that, for fifteen minutes, you should keep the broth on low heat, then cool it to 40 ° C, add a teaspoon of honey and strain. It is recommended to take forty minutes before going to bed.

Drinking a glass of freshly squeezed juice of grape berries or a toast of this tasty and healthy plant 30 minutes before eating has a tonic and restorative effect on the body.

It will help restore strength, give a boost of vivacity, energy and positive cocktail of banana, juice of one orange and half a lemon. It is recommended to grind a banana with a blender, or using a fork and add citrus juice to it. It is recommended to use immediately after preparation.

Fatigue Remedies - How to Overcome Chronic Fatigue

The crazy rhythm of modern life, the large amount of daily work performed, aggressive advertising - all this has an extremely adverse effect on the health of most people. A constant companion of a resident of a metropolis is chronic fatigue. Even after a long-awaited vacation, a person quite quickly begins to feel very tired again, which does not allow him to enjoy life and the opportunity to work with full dedication.

Many try to restore their working capacity with the help of long sleep on the day off, the use of energy drinks, even alcohol libations. But, as a rule, such actions do not bring real relief and the expected rest. Mankind has long dreamed of inventing a pill for chronic fatigue. However, doctors argue that a universal remedy for fatigue does not exist and cannot even exist in principle. Treatment for CFS is complex and includes:

  • normalization of the daily routine, optimization of work, physical activity and rest;
  • normalization of nutrition, the transition to dietary nutrition and the use of fasting days;
  • vitamin preparations of group B;
  • physiotherapy exercises and massage;
  • normalization of the psycho-emotional state - autogenic training, if necessary, the help of specialists - psychologists and psychotherapists;
  • medications - daytime tranquilizers, enterosorbents, nootropics.

Medications

Of course, for people with a neurasthenic temperament, there are medications that help restore their performance. But, unfortunately, they do not help to get rid of constant fatigue. First of all, such medicines are designed to improve the functioning of the brain. This role is played by nootropic drugs.

Nootropics are substances that affect the neural connections in the brain. The most famous representatives of these drugs are Piracetam (Nootropil), Aminalon, Encephabol. It should be noted that for the effectiveness of the impact they need to be taken in a certain course, which usually lasts 1 - 2 months. Also, the drugs in this direction should include such an anti-anxiety agent as the tranquilizer Phenibut.

Recently, medical scientists have developed bio-based drugs. These medicines include products made with the extract of the leaves of the exotic Ginkgo biloba tree. The main purpose of these medications is the treatment of neurasthenia, the recovery of a sick person after strokes, craniocerebral injuries. Therefore, nootropic drugs are not able to resist chronic fatigue, they only effectively treat a person's psychoasthenic conditions.

How to deal with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

However, despite the fact that there is no effective drug for fatigue, a person can independently overcome this unpleasant sensation. First of all, to combat fatigue, you should review the existing diet. In particular, it is necessary to significantly reduce the consumption of carbohydrates. The fact is that the increased content of carbohydrates contributes to the fact that the body begins to intensively produce serotonin. Its excess, especially in a state of depression, causes drowsiness that accompanies a person throughout the day. Therefore, it is required to abandon fast food, carbonated drinks, muffins, sweets and other unhealthy foods.

During the working day, you should try to change the type of activity, perform isometric exercises, prevent overstrain of the organs of vision, massage the back and neck. It is important to observe the regime of the day, especially the regime of night rest. To prevent a state of overexcitation, one should refuse to watch television programs before going to bed or sit at the computer, which have an exciting effect on the human psyche. A good eight-hour daily sleep can largely solve the problem of chronic fatigue.

Special care must be taken when consuming medicines, especially to long-term use of antihistamines that cause drowsiness. It is well known that the root cause of chronic fatigue is numerous stressful situations. Many people can not do anything throughout the day, nervous in the early morning. It feels like all the energy has been sucked out of the body. You need to try to get rid of depression not by drinking alcohol, but by visiting gyms, massage rooms, and a swimming pool. You should walk daily in the fresh air, it is useful to do meditation or regular yoga classes.

Finally, each person should remember that their own health must be maintained constantly, and not when the body, as they say, "fails." All of these actions require a desire, an appropriate attitude, a change in lifestyle. Therefore, good luck, patience and self-confidence!

    MEDICINES FOR FATIGUE

    Doctor of Medical Sciences Valentin PROZOROVSKY.

    The beginning of the 19th century was marked by the isolation in its pure form of many of the most valuable plant substances, called "alkaloids".

    Subsequently, it turned out that phenamine and its derivatives cause a lot of side effects, in particular, they disrupt the functions of the heart muscle, increase blood pressure and cause a pronounced "recoil phenomenon" - after activation of the body, its deep depression occurs.

It is able to increase muscle mass while breaking down fat.

He believed that they awaken his “inner doctor” in a person, like morning exercises and hardening with cold water. That is why it is pointless to drink a bottle of ginseng tincture, the best effect is achieved with its long-term use in small doses.

    All the tools that we talked about work, but. the main thing is movement, hardening, clean air and positive emotions. True, this requires the will and favorable living conditions. And where to get them? A vicious circle that should be broken by all means, most importantly - with the help of a doctor.

    Fatigue (fatigue)- the physiological state of the body, resulting from excessive mental or physical activity and manifested by a temporary decrease in performance. Often, the term “fatigue” is used as a synonym, although these are not equivalent concepts.

    Fatigue- a subjective experience, a feeling that usually reflects fatigue, although sometimes it can occur without real fatigue. Mental fatigue is characterized by a decrease in the productivity of intellectual labor, a weakening of attention (difficulty concentrating), a slowdown in thinking, etc.

    Causes of fatigue

    Loss of the energy forces of the body due to malnutrition, nervous tension and stress, prolonged or excessive exercise stress, lack of sleep.

    Signs and symptoms of fatigue

    Physical fatigue is manifested by a violation of muscle function: a decrease in strength, accuracy, consistency and rhythm of movements. Insufficient rest or excessive workload for a long time often leads to chronic fatigue or overwork. In young people and people with a certain type of nervous system, intense mental work can lead to the development of neuroses, which occur more often when mental fatigue is combined with constant mental stress, a great sense of responsibility, physical exhaustion, etc.

    • To prevent overwork in children, it is necessary to establish their daily routine, eliminate lack of sleep, malnutrition, reduce stress, and properly organize the alternation of classes and rest.
    • You should take a break from the work that caused fatigue.
    • When a state of physical or mental overwork occurs, it is recommended to use various traditional medicine which have a tonic effect on the body.

    Diagnosis of overwork

    If fatigue manifests itself too often and turns into chronic fatigue, it is necessary to conduct an examination with such doctors:

    • Therapist - he will understand the causes of fatigue, select the treatment, and, if necessary, refer him for examination to other specialists.
    • Neurologist - he will help identify abnormalities in the functioning of the nervous system.
    • Psychologist - consultation with this specialist is necessary in case of frequent stress.
    • Endocrinologist - very often, constant fatigue is a signal of the presence of a serious illness.
    • Immunologist - if fatigue is accompanied by frequent colds and exacerbations of chronic diseases.

    Treatment of fatigue and chronic fatigue
