Okuchnik for motoblock. What devices does the mini-technology market offer? Manufacturing technology of a potato hiller Which hiller is better for a walk-behind tractor

Potato is one of the most popular agricultural crops, which is grown not only in our country, but also in many countries of Eastern Europe. Throughout the three hundred year history of potato cultivation, agronomic technologies have been created, with the help of which they tried to facilitate the cultivation of the crop and increase its yield. If on an industrial scale growing potatoes today, tractors with interchangeable cultivators are used for hilling plants, then on household plots you can use the made hiller with your own hands for a walk-behind tractor.

Okuchnik is the second most important tool after the plow and winch. With it, you can first cut furrows for planting, and subsequently fill them with planting material.

Passing the hiller along the aisles of evenly planted rows of potatoes, you can observe how the wings of the tool quickly pour soil into the holes with tubers

On sale you can find several options for models of this tool.

Option #1 - Lister Hiller

This is the simplest type of tool that has a fixed working width. The design consists of two connected and slightly extended fixed wings. Since the wings of the tool are fixed, it is impossible to adjust the width of the grip by adjusting the hiller to the row spacing. Therefore, when working with such a tool, the row spacing is adapted to the capabilities of the hiller, and not vice versa. Traditionally, manufacturers produce products with a working width of 25-30 cm, which is also far from the most convenient option, because the technology of growing potatoes provides for a row spacing of 50-60 cm.

Such tools are designed to work with motor cultivators, the power of which does not exceed 3.5 hp, and the total weight of the unit is 25-30 kg

A design feature of lister hillers is also the presence of thin racks that prevent overloading the motor cultivator when the hiller is deepened into layers of dense soil.

Some models of lister hillers have a streamlined shape, which is more preferable, since when working with such a tool, the soil turns out less and dries out.

Material on how to monitor the condition of the soil in the country may also be useful:

Option #2 - variable width products

Such tools are more convenient to use, since they are equipped with an adjustment mechanism with which you can change the position of the wings. This allows you to adjust the tool to different row spacings.

Such hillers are designed to work with more powerful walk-behind tractors with engine from 4.0 hp and more, the weight of which exceeds 30 kg

A significant disadvantage of such structures is their high energy consumption. The reason for this is that in the process of work, the wings of the tool push the soil to the side, part of which, after passing it, nevertheless crumbles back into the furrow. As a result, the back and arms get tired faster, and part of the engine power is spent on useless work. But despite this, they are one of the most popular models among most gardeners.

Option #3 - disk models

Disc hillers are an order of magnitude more expensive than their traditional counterparts, but the efficiency of working with such tools is many times greater.

The main advantages of disk hillers are:

  • A successful combination of a walk-behind tractor with the tool itself. Using disk hiller, with a decrease in the speed of the cultivator, its power increases. This not only increases the efficiency of cultivation, but also has a positive effect on the operation of the unit itself.
  • Ease of use. To work with such a tool, you need to make a minimum of effort: it pushes itself forward without requiring additional pushing from behind.
  • Versatility of application. Using this tool, hilling can be done both after planting the tubers and during the period of active growth of the aerial part of crops.

When choosing among a variety of assortment, it is desirable to give preference to models made of alloy steel, equipped with rolling bearings (rather than plain bushings), with a large diameter and thickness of discs.

Option #4 - propeller-type hillers

The principle of operation of the tool is the operation of special propellers, under the influence of which the soil is first crushed and weeds are combed out, and after that, the beds are spudded with loose soil

Such hillers are designed for arrangement and motor cultivators that have two forward gears. This is necessary so that in second gear with an increase in power up to 180 rpm, with the help of a tool, you can not only loosen, but also transfer the soil to the beds from the row spacing.

An example of self-made lister hiller

As you can see, hillers are quite simple designs. There is nothing complicated in making a do-it-yourself hiller for a walk-behind tractor.

To create a traditional unregulated hiller, it is necessary to cut out halves of the product using a 2 mm thick metal template

These halves should be bent until the radii match, and then welded in 2-3 passes. Welds should be treated with a grinder and, if necessary, selectively welded and re-cleaned. The result should be a perfect even layer of metal.

The wings of the tool are also cut out of metal 2 mm thick and connected according to the same principle.

The result should be something like this. For clarity, the thickness of the elements and all dimensions of the tool base are indicated.

A simple model of a disk hiller for a walk-behind tractor

To make a tool, you need to choose the type of wings. Disks, or plowshares, are steel sheets 1.5-2 mm thick with bent lower edges.

An important condition: the disks must be strictly symmetrical. Otherwise, the design will "lead" to the side, which will greatly complicate the work.

When arranging the structure, you can use the shares removed from the seeder that has served its time.

The shares are set at an angle, maintaining the distance between the lower points corresponding to the width of the wheel track, equal to the row spacing

The elements are connected to each other using a bolted connection or by welding. The discs themselves are connected using adjustable adapters. In addition to discs, the main elements of the tool are: a T-shaped leash, screw lanyards and racks. Turnbuckles are necessary for regulation along the vertical axis of rotation of the discs. The tool is attached to the walk-behind tractor using a beam with wings.

When manufacturing and assembling parts based on a drawing, it is important to provide for the ratio of dimensions and the design of the fastening. There are two options for manufacturing the tool: with a fixed or variable width of the wings. With the second method of arrangement, the distance between the disks can be changed by symmetrical rearrangement of the racks.

The main assembly elements: 1 - machined row, 2 - disk, 3 - fist, 4 - T-bracket, 5 - rack, 6 - steel scraper, 7 - bridge beam, 8 - locking bolt, 9 - beam handle

To facilitate the work with the tool, it is necessary to provide for the arrangement of plain bearings. By installing bearings, not sleeves, you can increase the reliability of the product.

Material on how to make an adapter for a walk-behind tractor yourself will also be useful:

In the process of assembling the structure for attaching the tool to the walk-behind tractor, the hitch bracket without a beam is used. To do this, a hiller leash is attached to the bracket using a stopper and bolts with flat washers. The stopper is inserted inside the square pipe and pressed tightly against its outer surface.

The hitch bracket itself is rotated with bolts, and the leash is placed along the longitudinal axis of the walk-behind tractor

The unit is ready to work. Working in first gear, by reducing the forward speed, you can increase the traction of the walk-behind tractor. If the wheels slip during hilling, they must be paired.

Growing potatoes requires a lot of effort and time. During the season, potato bushes need to be spudded several times: cover the stems with loose earth to provide the roots with free access to air and retain moisture. Thanks to hilling, lateral shoots (stolons) develop better, more new tubers are formed.

The use of small-scale mechanization greatly facilitates this process. There are many types of attachments for walk-behind tractors or mini-tractors, as well as various hand tools designed for hilling.

Types of hillers

The easiest way is to loosen the ground between the rows with a hoe or chopper and pour soil under the bushes, forming mounds. But it is much more convenient to form ridges with a manual potato hiller. By hanging such a device on a walk-behind tractor or an electric cultivator, you can quickly process even fairly large areas.

In one pass, a manual hiller is processed on one side of two adjacent rows, and if the work item is attached to a walk-behind tractor, then several at once. On the small plot it is more convenient to use a hand tool.

In specialized stores, various models of hillers are sold, each of them has its own principle of operation. When choosing a tool for yourself, you need to take into account the size of the area to be treated, and if there is a walk-behind tractor or other unit, the brand and characteristics.

Depending on the principle of operation, hillers are:

  • disk;
  • plow.

According to the device of the working element, hillers are classified as follows:

  • models with a constant working width (distance between discs or plow shares);
  • models with adjustable working width.

Figure 1 and Figure 2 show manual hillers. These models are usually equipped with one working element and comfortable handles (for joint work of two people).

Figure 3 shows a hinged disk device with a connecting node to a motor-cultivator or mini-tractor. Such hillers may have one or more pairs of discs (or several plows) mounted on a special beam. The number of working elements depends on the power of the machine.

Self-made hillers

The purchase of such equipment will not be cheap. Having skills in plumbing and necessary tools, you can save money by making a potato hiller from improvised materials.

Let's take a closer look design features hillers that you can make yourself.

The most popular among gardeners are disk models, the main element of which is a pair of concave metal disks installed at an angle relative to each other. In turn, hillers of this type can be with a fixed or adjustable distance between the disks and the angle of inclination relative to the vertical stand. The discs are mounted directly on the axle or with the help of plain bearings, which greatly facilitates the work.

Hillers with plows (lister) are considered the simplest, and therefore the most reliable in operation. They come with a constant distance between the shares or with spacers installed, with which you can change the width of the grip (photo, Fig. 4). This type of hiller has a drawback - they require a cultivator with more power than disk ones.

Getting started, you should first make a drawing of a disk-type hiller, guided by a detailed assembly diagram and putting down the exact dimensions.

To make such a device, you will need the following tools:

  • gas cutter - for cutting parts from sheet metal and steel profiles;
  • gas welding post - for connecting parts with welds;
  • gas burner - for heating sections of metal parts before bending them;
  • vise and other metalwork tools;
  • a powerful drill and a set of carbide drills for metal;
  • angle grinder (grinder) - for cleaning welds;
  • pipe bender - desirable, but not required.

Description of the build process

The main structural element is two concave metal disks connected to each other with a diameter of 370 to 700 mm with sharpened edges. They must be made of steel sheet with a thickness of at least 2 mm. Craftsmen solve this problem in different ways, someone even adapts lids from failed large pots. Others cut off the bottom and top from the heating tank of an old boiler, you can remove the discs from a seeder that has served its time. It is acceptable to use old large diameter saw blades. But the best thing, of course, is to make stainless steel discs and give them the desired shape in production.

The simplest option is to fasten the discs using bushings welded together (two pieces of pipe with a diameter of 25 mm and a length of 50–80 mm). In this case, the distances between the lower points and the angles of inclination of the disks always remain unchanged. The discs rotate due to the sliding of the axles in bushings packed with grease (bolts of a suitable diameter and length are selected for the axles). With such a design, the row spacing will have to be made equal to this distance.

If hubs are welded to the disks, each of which will have two plain bearings installed (203, single-row ball is suitable), and the axles of the disks are aligned with the racks using homemade cam mechanisms, then the disks will be able to rotate freely, which will greatly facilitate work. A steel scraper mounted on the axis on the concave side of each disc will clean it of adhering earth during operation.

On the bridge beam, several through holes are drilled in increments of 50 mm in order to adjust the distance between the disks to the size of the row spacing. With such a mechanism, you can work alone, but it is easier and more convenient - together. It is advisable to make front and rear traction. Then one person will push the device from behind, and a partner will guide and pull forward.

On fig. 6, 7, 8 respectively show how vertical racks and what the handle-ridge looks like. On fig. 8 - mounting disks and ways to adjust them.

Installing a homemade hiller on a walk-behind tractor

The okuchnik, mounted on a walk-behind tractor, must be equipped with a clutch assembly with the unit. It must be made, taking into account the connecting dimensions of the counterpart, and provide pins that will firmly connect the attachment to the unit. All parts of the clutch assembly must be made of high-carbon steel sheet with a thickness of at least 5-7 mm. Bolts of suitable diameter and length can be used as pins.

Rice. 9. Scheme of a disk hiller for installation on a mechanical cultivator

In order to be able to adjust the angle of rotation of the disks, two turnbuckles are installed on the beam (see Fig. 10). To change the distance between the disks in the beam, a series of holes are drilled for bolted connections. The design must be completely symmetrical, otherwise during operation it will be difficult to withstand movement in a straight line, the hiller will begin to go to the side.

On fig. 10 shows the location of the lanyards and special bolts (B and C), with the help of which the position of the disks is adjusted.

Making a plow hiller

It is also possible to make a hiller for lister (plow) type potatoes with fixed "wings" and with an adjustable distance between them.

If you provide such an element with two rods: rear and front, it is suitable for handmade. As an attachment, the plow can be mounted on a bridge beam with a connecting unit (to a motor or electric cultivator).

Hilling and digging a land plot is quite hard work, which takes a lot of strength and health.

Many summer residents and owners of land plots use such a convenient device as a walk-behind tractor on the farm. They can easily dig up the entire site in a matter of hours. And if you attach various devices to it, for example, a hiller, a lawn mower, potato planters and much more, then the work will be much easier.

In this article, we will consider how to make such a convenient tool as a disk hiller for a walk-behind tractor. First of all, you need to find out what models of this tool are, and only then find out how you can make it yourself. There are 4 varieties of this device.

Hiller models

Lister type hiller

The design of this device is considered the most simple. It has a fixed working width.

It consists of two attached, branched and fixed wings. Due to the fact that the wings are fixed, it is impossible to set the size of the working width by adjusting the device to the row spacing. It is for this reason that when working with this hiller, you have to adjust the aisles themselves to the size of the hiller, and not vice versa.

Basically, all manufacturers produce models with a working width of 25-30 cm. This is not very convenient, because the technology for growing and planting potatoes has a width between rows of 60 cm.

This design has special racks with a thin design that prevent overloading the walk-behind tractor while loosening the hiller of deep layers of hard soils.

There are devices, the design of which has a streamlined look. This is most convenient because such models can be adjusted to any row spacing.

Variable working width

This device is considered the most convenient, since it has an adjustment mechanism that provides a quick change in the position of the wings. Thanks to this property, it can be easily adjusted to any size beds.

However, they have one very unpleasant drawback - they are very difficult to work with. This is due to the fact that when loosening the wings of the device push the earth in different directions, a small amount of which spills out again into the furrow.

As a result, the arms and back begin to get tired, and the main part of the engine power is wasted. But still, despite these shortcomings, these models are popular and in great demand among many landowners.

Disc variety

This type of tool has the following advantages:

  • goes well with the motoblock. If the disk hiller is used at a reduced speed of the walk-behind tractor, then the power of the tool becomes even greater. Due to this, the efficiency of digging up the soil increases, and also has a beneficial effect on the working process of the tool;
  • convenient use. During loosening or digging with this device, you do not need to exert a lot of force. He moves forward on his own and there is no need to put additional emphasis on the back;
  • universal purpose. This tool can be used to loosen the soil, as before planting potatoes (How to make manual hiller for potatoes, read this), and after planting during active cultivation for additional loosening.

If you choose from the proposed models in stores, then it is best to choose hillers made of alloyed metal, the design of which has rolling bearings, a large diameter and thickness of disk elements.

Propeller hillers

The whole principle of operation consists in the operation of the propeller elements. Under their influence, the earth is first dug up and the weeds are cleaned out, and only then the single-row beds themselves are loosened.

These models are mainly used for front-wheel drive motor cultivators (Read about the varieties of cultivators) and motor blocks with two gears. This is because in second gears the power level rises to 180 rpm.

When the power level reaches its maximum, this tool can be used not only for hilling the soil, but also for throwing the earth from bed to bed.

Disc type device

The disk-type hiller device consists of a frame on two wheels and two suspended disk elements. If we consider in more detail all the constituent elements, we can distinguish the following:

  • T-type leash;
  • screw tarlepa - 2 pieces. Due to these elements, the angle of rotation of the disk elements is adjusted vertically;
  • racks - 2 pieces;
  • disks - 2 pieces.

Adjustment of racks provides convenient change of distance between edges of disk adaptations. For this reason, you can choose the size of the width that you need - from 35 cm to 70 cm.

If you need to set the disk elements to the same size of the angles of rotation, then you need to adjust the tarlips. Without this, the hiller will pull constantly to the side. But the level of inclination of the disk elements is not adjustable and basically always keeps at the same level.

How does he work?

The device is attached to the walk-behind tractor on the clutch bracket without a rower. This is done by a locking element with two bolts and flat washers. The most convenient workflow with it is carried out in the first low gears.

The principle of operation of these hillers is as follows: during movement, the disk elements rake in the soil and make a roller when hilling, sprinkling plants with earth.

The rotational movements of the disk elements provide soil crushing and loosen it additionally.

Good to know: if used double row hiller for hilling potatoes, it is necessary to install two devices on the clutch at a distance that will be equal to the row spacing.

In addition, this tool has the following advantages:
  • due to it, high and even row-spacing ridges are obtained;
  • ease and convenience at work;
  • small energy consumption.

However, not everything is so good, there are negative sides. These devices, compared with other types, are 3, and sometimes even 4 times more expensive. Of course, a number of factors affect the cost:

  • the size of the diameter and thickness of the disk elements;
  • the material from which the tool is made - steel of a simple or alloy type;
  • adjustment devices.

When buying, you must consider all the nuances. If it seems that this device is too expensive, then you can make it yourself. Moreover, the production is not quite so complicated.

Drawing

Before you start making your own disk hiller, you need to familiarize yourself with the drawings of this tool.

Thanks to them, you can make this tool with the greatest accuracy the first time, and it will last a long time.

Manufacturing methods

Hillers can be made in two ways:

  1. With fixed working width.
  2. With adjustable or variable working width.

Consider these manufacturing methods in more detail.

What can be used from improvised materials

For a lister device, a sheet of steel with a thickness dimension of 3 mm is required. But for a disk device, you need a little more:

  • covers from simple pans with parameters 50-60 cm - 2 pieces;
  • tarleps - 2 pieces;
  • racks - 2 pieces;
  • one leash in the shape of the letter T.

Self-manufacturing

Lister Hiller

In order to make this device, you need to cut two equal parts from a steel sheet with a thickness of 2 mm. Then you need to bend them so that their radii match.

Then their seams are welded and processed to end up with a perfectly flat surface. IN In the future, these tools can be used for single-row tillage. You can make two such devices, which can later be used for two-row processing of potatoes.

Disc hiller

Manufacturing steps:

  1. Old covers need to be sharpened around the edges.
  2. Next, using a hammer, we bend the disk elements: one side should be convex, the other concave. This is done so that the device calmly rakes the ground and sprinkles the plants with it.
  3. Tarleps, racks and a leash in the shape of the letter T must be fastened together with special fixing bolts and welded.
  4. Disc wheels are connected by adapters.
  5. The disc elements must be installed so that the space between them is the same as the distance between the rows.
  6. Due to the tarlep, the angle of rotation of the disk elements is regulated vertically.
  7. As a result, the entire device is fastened through a leash to the walk-behind tractor bracket using bolts with flat washers and a locking element.

So, the disk hiller is assembled. It turns out that you can easily assemble it yourself with the help of improvised materials. This can save you a significant amount of money.

A disc hiller for a walk-behind tractor is a convenient and necessary thing in agriculture for hilling, loosening, planting potatoes and other agricultural plants.

It will provide convenient and comfortable work when digging up large land areas. It can be easily made by yourself. The main thing during manufacturing is to follow the entire sequence of actions. As a result, you get a convenient tool that will serve you for a long time.

From this video you can learn about hilling discs and how to set them up:

Motoblocks have long been popular among representatives of the agricultural sector. The versatility, compactness and high level of performance of such equipment are increasing every year, because special hinges contribute to this.

On the this moment There are many types of attachments on the market, but one of the most popular is the hiller.

Why do you need a hiller for a walk-behind tractor?

The specified element is used for planting vegetables and caring for them. It works quite simply: after installing the add-on and starting the walk-behind tractor, the part tows the car along the cultivated area with planted seeds, thereby sprinkling the future vegetation with the necessary layer of moist and slightly loose soil. Such an operation is of considerable importance, because it allows you to protect the seeds from negative atmospheric influences, increase the level of oxygen saturation, and stimulate growth.

Experts note that hilling with a walk-behind tractor also helps to rid the earth of excess moisture in order to avoid decay. After processing, the sun's rays penetrate the soil much better, and some harmful insects end up on the surface, where they are "cleaned" by birds. Some weeds are also destroyed, so elementary processing can be safely considered a partial replacement for the use of herbicides. It is important to note that hillers are most often used to process potato plantings.

Which hiller is better for a walk-behind tractor?

Modern manufacturers of agricultural machinery are trying to meet the ever-increasing demands of users, so each brand produces specialized hillers that are fully adapted to the specifics of a walk-behind tractor of a particular manufacturer. For example, for Neva, MB 2, MB 1 and Agro units, you can purchase the following types of additional assistants:

Hillers for potatoes to a walk-behind tractor with a clearly marked working width

Such an object is considered one of the simplest and has another name - lister. It is used for processing row-spacings of a narrow plan, the width of which does not exceed 30 cm. As for the design features, the hitch consists of several wings fixed relative to each other. This option is suitable for low power walk-behind tractors (about 3.5 hp). A thin rack contributes to the appearance of additional protection of the device from overloads. The negative aspects of such a development include the impossibility of working with wet ground, since the soil simply sticks to the wings, preventing the equipment from performing its task;

Okuchnik with variable working width

The main advantage of this type of tool is the ability to adjust the processing width. With its help, it will be possible to process rows of completely different sizes. Suitable for more powerful machines, because it consumes more energy. Often, such devices have the form of two-row hillers, which make it possible to perform the necessary operations with even greater efficiency. For adequate operation, it is necessary to put the lugs of the walk-behind tractor on extension cords;

Disc hiller

It is considered the most convenient, since it can be used to qualitatively prepare furrows for planting seeds. A feature of the part is the placement of disk-dumps at a certain angle. The productivity of use is much higher than that of the previously considered models;

The specificity of the development of such a plan is the rotation of the wings in several planes. It seems that the lower edge of the wings follows the contour of the crest. This approach allows you to make care more productively with minimal energy costs. Affordability is also a significant plus;

Propeller hiller active plan (rotary)

The technical device allows you to qualitatively perform the hilling procedure, toss the earth precisely to the roots of plants. Important point: you can work with such a device in the second forward gear of the walk-behind tractor, which not every machine can boast of. The increased gear will allow the hiller to rotate at a speed of 160-180 turns per minute, due to which the soil is “transferred” from the row spacing to the rows themselves.

Because in Lately agronomists are increasingly using a two-row hiller, you should consider the specifics of installing a hitch of exactly the specified plan. Often, fixation occurs through the operation of special hitches SV-2 and SV-1/1. A prerequisite for competent installation is the presence of lugs, the diameter of which should not be lower than 600 mm. Otherwise, it will not be possible to avoid squeezing the potato tops by the reducer.

It is important to correctly direct the hiller, because it will be possible to obtain the desired result only if it is oriented parallel to the soil surface. This can be done simply by just adjusting a few bolts on the bracket. In the process, special attention should be paid to the selection of the furrow width and the depth of immersion in the ground, because after processing the ridges should be at the same level. This depth is regulated by several methods:

  • The master must be guided by the height of the mounting holes;
  • The presence of screw adjustment (for adjustable objects) will allow, while turning the handle, to change the angle between the frame of the nozzle and the unit itself.

To adjust the width of the furrows, you should use the frame fastening brackets (shift or push them apart). You can also follow the instructions in the following videos:

We create a do-it-yourself hiller for a walk-behind tractor

It is quite logical that the owners of walk-behind tractors want to expand the range of tasks performed by the machine with the help of a hiller. It’s just that some don’t express much desire to spend money on this, trying to create homemade devices. Oddly enough, but they do it very well!

It is worth noting that one cannot do without elementary plumbing equipment.

For further manipulations, you need:

  • Apparatus for welding (arc);
  • Electric sharpener;
  • Gas-burner;
  • Vise;
  • Bulgarian. It is desirable that the device be of medium power and have peeling and cutting discs in the set;
  • Drill and drills;
  • Files;
  • Locksmith workbench.

Hiller with fixed and adjustable angle (lister)

We have already commemorated this type earlier, and now we will consider the drawings that allow us to assemble the indicated part on our own.

The fixed type belongs to the class of the most easily created hillers. The base is obtained using a steel sheet, the thickness of which is not less than 3 mm. For its formation, only high-quality materials should be used, because this node has to be the first to meet the resistance of the soil.

To create a bracket, a four-millimeter steel strip should be used. It is important to harden the part after the forming process. A spring leaf can be used as a field board. But for starters, the metal should be “released” and hardened. For the rack, it is important to choose strips with a thickness of at least 8 mm.

Welding is carried out in several passes, on each side of the joint. You can create wings from thinner sheets (2 mm). Special attention must be paid to dimensionality otherwise the docking of the base with the wings may fail.

Almost any template can be used to bend the wings, even a steel pipe of a suitable diameter.

Whoever uses walk-behind tractors knows: it is not always possible to purchase the necessary attachments for the unit. Many of them are expensive, and some are not very convenient to use in the country or garden. Here, an individual approach is often important. Therefore, do-it-yourself disk hillers for a walk-behind tractor, drawings, the video of which is in in large numbers on the Internet, will help those who wish to realize individually, in their own way, the problem of mechanization of hilling their plantations.

For ease of parsing how to make a mounted hiller on the unit, first we will analyze how to do manual hiller for potatoes.

As can be seen from the drawing, to facilitate labor without a motor, you also need to try. But not as much as it seems. First of all, you need tools to work:

  • hammer;
  • vise;
  • welding machines, preferably both electric and autogenous;
  • calipers;
  • taps for cutting internal threads;
  • collar for taps;
  • grinder with interchangeable discs;
  • gas burner for heating the metal when it needs to be bent;
  • Workbench;
  • all kinds of auxiliary tools.

Disc hiller

Let's get down to how to make a hiller for potatoes with your own hands. The drawing shows that the main tool is moldboard discs. They must be within 400 mm. This is optimal. Because we usually plant potatoes at a depth of 60-80 mm, and then the roots grow about 200 mm. It turns out, having passed in the aisle with inclined disks of the specified size, we completely spud a row of potatoes.

So, we make 2 disks from a steel sheet 2 mm thick, 400 in diameter. Some are made from old pot lids. Let be. But it is desirable to make solid discs that will last a long time. You can take it from agricultural machinery decommissioned into scrap metal. But best of all - alloyed stainless steel. The edges of the disks, where the cutting edges will be, are sharpened. Now we make a bridge with racks on which the disks will be fixed. We calculate the dimensions. On a strong steel pipe on both sides we put on a connecting mount for pipes (sold everywhere). The free ends of the fasteners are directed downwards. From above, we drill the pipe through the holes in the mount. Each fastener is drilled on both sides. Fasten with nuts and bolts.

If you want to make grips of different widths, then drill an additional two more holes on both sides. To change the width of the grip, it is enough to rearrange the posts further or closer to the ends of the bridge, and fasten through the holes. Then we insert tubes - racks into the mounts from below. We also drill, fasten in the connection. Two bolts with nuts for each rack. Then at the bottom of each rack we make a mechanism for inclined movable disks. First we attach the bracket for the disk. And we also do 2-3 pipe drilling positions. To be able to change the inclination of the disks.

On the other side of the bracket, we weld a short thick steel bar. At its other end - in the bushing ring - press in a closed-type plain bearing. Weld a wide washer with holes for fastening the disk to the sleeve from the inside in advance. For each disc, weld the same wide washers with holes in the center inward. We fix the discs with bolts and nuts. We got two movable disks inclined at a certain angle, attached to racks on the same bridge. You can come up with an additional device for tilting the disks to the right - to the left. To do this, you need to choose a hinge-mounted bracket mechanism. These are also on sale. Yes, and in the old details of agricultural machinery can be found.

Attaching a hiller

Hiller for walk-behind tractor must be connected, hung to the unit in such a way as shown in this drawing:

It can be seen from the drawing that we need to connect the device to the walk-behind tractor through brackets and strong steel tubes to the bridge. Strengthen the connection with a cross bar. Turn on the motor. The wheels are moving. You hold on to the handles of the walk-behind tractor. Carried away by the movement, the created one comes into action with my own hands hilling tool. The discs only need to be made at symmetrical angles so that they do not lead in one direction when hilling. The considered version of the tool is not the only one. There are others. Let's consider them in turn.

Lister model

This homemade hiller for a walk-behind tractor is interesting in that it is easy to make it in a rigid, non-sliding version. Here is a photo of such a hiller:

In order to do this, you need a little time and material. Cut from 2
millimeter steel billet according to the drawing, a certain configuration. Let's sharpen the future lower edge. Let's bend in the middle. How to bend? through a fixed pipe. Finish the fold by punching the leading edge with a hammer. Then we spread the wings of the hiller. We fix the width between the wings with a steel cross member welded between them at the back. We break through the bottom of the product so that the wings turn out to be plowshare-like. From the inside, in front of the hiller, we weld a stand with several holes drilled so that you can adjust the depth (higher, lower) of the hiller immersion in the soil. To the rack we bolt the rod that goes to the walk-behind tractor. We fasten the bar to the walk-behind tractor.

The same lister model, made in a sliding version:

Okuchnik lies upside down, Therefore, his device is visible. Apparently, a factory hiller. You can do the exact same thing by hand. Instead of a cross member that tightly connects the wings, three connection elements are used here: in the middle, welded in front, a rod with holes; two crossbars from the wings, overlapping on the middle bar. The connection point is reinforced with a bolt and nut. The skid bars are attached to the fenders with a welded lug, so the skid bars can be movable. By moving the bolt closer or farther along the bar, you can adjust the width of the wings. Everything else with a sliding lister hiller is done in the same way as with a fixed one. Of course, sliding is better. It turns out that you can adjust not only the depth, but also the width of the hilling.

There is one more option. For processing two rows at once. This improvement speeds up the process. Time, effort and fuel of the walk-behind tractor are saved. A dual device is made in this way. Two homemade hiller with racks are attached to a square horizontal bar. There are a lot of such metal products. You can always find the right thing. We do the fastening of the hiller racks to the bar like this. We cut (or saw out) a strip of two-millimeter steel. At the ends of the strip we make rectangular long slots.

We bend the metal in the middle, so that the middle goes around the square bar at a right angle from behind. We pass the hiller stand into the double eyelet that has turned out in front. A hole for the bolt is pre-drilled in the mount. On the bar we make holes on the right and left, at the same distance from each other. In the holes, we manually cut the thread for the bolt using a tap with a crank. Wrapping the bolt into the back of the mount through the thread in the rod, we tighten the hiller stand inserted into the lugs of the mount at point-blank range. Because the bolt will rest against the front of the bar and begin to push the bar forward, pulling on the bent mount, securing the rack.

In the middle of the rod we cook a small stand for a rigid hinged connection to the walk-behind tractor. By moving racks with hillers along the bar, you can choose the width of the rows of double hilling. Sliding wings will help you choose the mode of the blade.

Propeller type hiller

There is one more option. This propeller-type active hiller. Such a hiller can be made to walk-behind tractors that have a power take-off shaft and two gears. Rotation together with translational movement makes hilling better. The earth is loosened, spudding rows of plantings. Making such a homemade tool is easy. Finished activators are mounted on the axis, the distance between them is set. If there are bushings with brackets, you can change activators of different sizes.

An important tool is the hiller. The range of store prices is large - from 700 rubles to 11 thousand. It depends on what hiller, and how it is made. Naturally, homemade is more profitable. In addition, a good owner and craftsman will make a good product. And you can always customize the tillage tool to suit your needs, which attachments factory production is sometimes not very convenient.
