Place for a fireplace

If you decide to install a flash fireplace at home, then first you need to determine the place. The choice of its location is very important so that you can qualitatively create the illusion that the fireplace is quite real.

  • First, we determine the room where we plan to install such a fireplace. Everything is simple here. Most likely, it will be a living room or a hall. Less commonly, decorative fireplaces are installed in the bedroom.
  • Secondly, we plan its placement. Usually it is installed in the middle of the longitudinal wall. But here it all depends on your wishes and the design of the room, as well as on its technical capabilities.

Do not place the fireplace in places where it will interfere. For example, near cabinets, doors and batteries. This will not only complicate the installation work, but the fireplace may subsequently be damaged.

How to do

To make a decorative fireplace yourself, you will need some drywall skills, the ability and desire to create, and, of course, a tool.

Initially, you need to make drawings. First, draw a diagram of the location of the future fireplace, or even several, and then draw a fireplace in two projections, apply all the necessary dimensions. It is better to carry out the drawing in full size, so that it is easy to try on the wall. We develop a sketch to the smallest detail, so that later you do not have to redo anything.

Based on the drawing, we make a model of the future fireplace from cardboard boxes or foam. It is necessary to create all the details of the fireplace, and install them on adhesive tape where you plan to place this decor element. Execute the layout carefully, completely in accordance with the project, in order to analyze errors in advance and eliminate them.

We turn to the construction of the structure. During construction we will need:

  1. Bulgarian;
  2. perforator;
  3. screwdriver;
  4. cutter;
  5. putty knife;
  6. stationery knife;
  7. metal scissors;
  8. roulette;
  9. building level;
  10. pencil.

Initially, we transfer all the details of the future fireplace to sheets of drywall, and cut it out with a grinder. We mark all parts of the fireplace on the wall, use the building level to maintain a clear horizontal and vertical line. We install guides on the wall where it is planned to place a false fireplace. We do this with a puncher and dowels.

If you do not plan to install a false chimney and are thinking of organizing a shelf for photographs and figurines at the top, then you must immediately strengthen the side racks for structural reliability. Lead the cable with electricity into the structure so that you can then insert and connect an electric fireplace or LCD TV into the portal. You can assemble the frame separately, and only then install it on the wall. This option is more convenient if your fireplace is located near a wall.

Now we sheathe the frame with drywall. We do everything carefully, remembering that a deviation of a few millimeters can distort the whole picture and will not make it possible to fill the portal in the future. If the lining of the false fireplace is supposed to be massive and heavy, then it is necessary to sheathe the future fireplace with two layers of drywall. For lining the fireplace, drywall sheets with a thickness of at least 1.2 cm are suitable.

Next, we move on to putty. Why is it necessary to process the edges of the drywall with an abrasive, prime and putty the fireplace completely. We produce putty inside and outside. We use tape and perforated corners to connect the sheets to each other so that the grout holds well and the surface becomes perfectly flat.

The next step is finishing the false fireplace. You can decorate it with any material. This is where tiles come in. fake diamond, gypsum finishing, granite, marble, simple painting and much more. It all depends on your imagination and the stylistic decision of the room as a whole.

But first you need to finish inner part decorative fireplace, especially if a heat appliance will be installed in it. Thermal insulation in this case is necessary. We trim the portal with magnesite and cover it with foil on top. Such a layer will reflect heat and will not allow the inner walls of the fireplace to heat up.

If a heater is not provided in a false fireplace, then inside it can be trimmed with a mirror.

If the fireplace is finished with artificial stone or marble, then finishing work in the form of putty can be omitted. In this case, you just need to prime the drywall, and then glue the stone with special glue. We give the glue to dry well and process all the seams between the stone with a special grout.

Another great way to finish a drywall fireplace is with decorative plaster. We apply it to the fireplace, and, without waiting for the coating to dry, with a spatula we imitate brickwork.

You can paste over with a decorative film, choosing a suitable pattern. A huge selection of textures will make your fireplace unique.

After finishing the fireplace, it is necessary to decorate it. To do this, we use various columns, stucco, moldings. Such decor will give an artificial fireplace naturalness and completeness.

You can install a decorative shelf on the top of the fireplace, install an electric fireplace or a TV in the firebox.

Design in the interior

The design of a decorative fireplace can be performed in any stylistic decision, and it is possible to equip it in different ways. From what you fill the portal at the false fireplace, it will determine the function of this decor element.

  1. A fireplace, decorated in a classic style, decorated with marble or granite, with an electric fireplace in the portal, will not only bring warmth to your room, but its presentable appearance will become the central accent in the interior.
  2. A false chimney will add naturalness to the fireplace.
  3. A brick-lined fireplace with a TV in the firebox is suitable for a high-tech stylistic solution. Its clear lines and simple shapes fit perfectly in this style.
  4. Finishing in the form of Greek statues will add chic and fit into the bohemian style of the living room.
  5. For an apartment decorated in Art Nouveau style, a fireplace with a minimal finish is perfect.
  6. Candles in the portal will add a romantic touch to the decor of the room.
  7. Decorative fireplace can be used as a book shelf.
  8. Corner false fireplace will be a decoration even in a small room.
  9. The top shelf can be decorated with figurines for hours, giving English chic to the interior.
  10. A decorative fireplace trimmed with stone is perfect for a room with a rustic style.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to lay out a fully working fireplace in the apartment. In this aspect, the owners of private houses were more fortunate. It is quite realistic to build a fireplace there, especially if you provide for it at the design stage of the structure itself. But the inhabitants of apartments in modern high-rise buildings there is a worthy alternative: they can make a decorative fireplace with their own hands. This will create a relaxing and cozy atmosphere in the interior of the room.

Decorative fireplaces are divided into the following groups:

  • symbolic. Any material can be used to create them. A feature of such a decorative fireplace in the apartment is its dissimilarity with the usual fireplace. An example is his image on the wall, decorated with decorative paraphernalia;

  • conditional. Thanks to a self-made portal protruding from the wall, this type of fireplace is very reminiscent of a real one. At the same time, you can decorate it as you wish, for example, by placing firewood or candles in the firebox;
  • reliable. This is an option for the most complete imitation of a fireplace in an apartment, in compliance with the principles of design and the corresponding dimensions of the structure. To create the effect of a real flame, the inside of the pseudo-furnace is equipped with a bio-burner. The impressive price of this option is offset by its extreme realism.

You can make a decorative fireplace with your own hands from a variety of materials. Moreover, any such design is easy to implement. The materials you need can be purchased at any hardware or hardware store, and a number of them can even be found at home.

Making a fireplace with your own hands from boxes

It is noteworthy that from this material it is possible to create a portal for an electric fireplace with your own hands, and not just a purely decorative design. Of course, this option excludes the installation of a gas burner due to the presence of an open flame, which can cause a fire. It is impossible to place a heat-exchange fireplace with a casing and a water boiler in it due to the fact that cardboard can catch fire from overheating, and because of the bulkiness of the final design. For the same reasons, do-it-yourself installation of an electric fireplace with a built-in heating function and with an open firebox is unacceptable.

From the foregoing, we can draw the following conclusion: in a structure created from boxes, it is allowed to install only an electric fireplace with imitation of a flame using a backlight or on an LCD screen.

Helpful advice! To make it look more like a real fireplace, finish the product from the boxes with decorative plaster or paint with acrylic paint.

The only drawback of such structures is their lightness. Therefore, fastening a homemade fireplace from boxes must be carried out to the floor or wall.

This material allows you to implement a wide variety of design ideas. There are several style directions of a fireplace from boxes created by one's own hands in an apartment today.

Modern. The design of the fireplace portal in this style involves a variety of colors and textures, a combination of antique decor elements (sockets, stucco moldings, etc.) and modern forms. Such a fireplace will be in perfect harmony with almost any interior.

High tech. This style suggests a certain futurism. Therefore, in this case to create a fireplace in the apartment with your own hands, such ultra-modern materials as plexiglass, steel are used. It would seem, what does cardboard boxes have to do with it? However, even from them you can make a fireplace in modern style. It is enough to give it an interesting geometric shape and paint it steel or black, and simply insert a mirror into the firebox. It is also allowed to lay glass on the mantelpiece.

Classic. This style is always in fashion. A minimum of additional decorations, strict lines - you can put such a fireplace in absolutely any apartment.

Country. Rustic style is preferred by many of our contemporaries. Such fireplaces differ in that they are made of natural stone. To give the product from the boxes such a look, it is enough to paste over it with self-adhesive wallpaper or a film with a stone print, and firewood must be placed in the firebox.

What materials and tools will be needed to make a cardboard fireplace with your own hands

It is clear that in the first place it is necessary to have several large cardboard boxes. In addition, in this case, you will need to buy to create an imitation of a fireplace:

  • glue for connecting boxes together;
  • polymer-based adhesive;
  • paint suitable for working with cardboard "building materials" (usually water-based);
  • paint "gold" in a can;
  • colorless varnish;
  • ceiling molding;

  • brushes and sponges;
  • masking tape and adhesive tape;
  • ruler, level, measuring instruments.

Let's briefly consider the question of how to make a decorative fireplace with your own hands. The length of the base is about 120, and the height is 50 mm. The main part is constructed from a cardboard box and pasted over with adhesive tape. As a result, you need to get a blank that looks like a dollhouse. The portal is also created from cardboard. To simplify the work, opt for the option with a solid back wall.

On a note! When drawing lines for cutting a cardboard box, do not use felt-tip pens and markers. They will show through the paint and ruin the whole look.

The front part of the portal is made from a piece of cardboard in the form of a strip. Then the furnace part is cut out. To connect all the parts together, adhesive tape is used.

Next up is the top shelf. It must be understood that the strength of an artificial fireplace created by one's own hands is determined by the quality of this particular element. To install heavy items on the top shelf did not lead to its deformation, it is necessary to glue several layers of cardboard together. And to give this part rigidity, press it until it dries completely. Fixation of the upper shelf on the portal is carried out using polymer-based adhesive. Then the joints between all the details of the fireplace are sealed using masking tape.

The process of decorating a do-it-yourself decorative cardboard fireplace is the most pleasant and easy of all the works on its manufacture. One of the most attractive options is the use of stucco. But most often moldings or baguettes made of foam are used to frame the fireplace.

Making your own brick fireplace

This material is used to ensure that the appearance of the structure is similar to that of a traditional fireplace. Usually used decorative or facing brick. Laying must be carried out according to a previously drawn up drawing or sketched order. Only a master with experience in masonry work can perform this type of construction.

Decorative brick fireplace does not need additional finishing. This material itself looks very original. Suitable for decoration of this type of construction wooden shelves and real logs. A special romantic atmosphere will reign in the apartment during the construction of a false brick fireplace with candles in it.

What is live fire? Types of fireplaces with 3D fire effect. Features of the choice of electric fireplaces. Rules for the installation of an electric fireplace.

Brick laying for a fireplace is in order. Before moving on to the next row, it is advisable to give the previous one time to dry. Be sure to wipe the front side of the brick.

A gap of 5 millimeters must be left between all metal components and the brick. Lay an asbestos cord of the same width in it. The gap is left in order to prevent damage to the structure of the dummy fireplace caused by different coefficients of linear expansion of metal and brick.

Note! Jointing of masonry joints should be done immediately. Then there will be no need for additional finishing.

To decorate the structure, it will be enough to install a hardwood mantel on it. how a budget option- foamed concrete shelf. Inside the furnace hole, you can install an electronic portal with the functions of simulating live fire and sound. Of course, the use of such a hand-made brick fireplace for heating is impossible, but the visual perception of the “dancing” flames will bring notes of real warmth to the room.

Creation of decorative fireplaces from plaster

Gypsum is included in the group of the most practical and at the same time cheap materials for the construction and decoration of false fireplaces. It is safe for health because it is environmentally friendly. Gypsum is able to absorb excess moisture in the room and, conversely, give it away if the air there is very dry. The plasticity of this material ensures the ease of decorating the surface of the product.

A gypsum fireplace portal can be decorated with elements that match the style of the interior of a particular room. A wide range of options available for artistic processing of such a design is the main advantage of this material in terms of the implementation of design ideas. For example, its surface can be decorated with alfreine painting or covered with gilding, made to look like marble or wood, tinted with acrylic or water-based paint in any color.

The answer to the question of how to make a decorative gypsum fireplace portal depends on what kind of homeowner prefers it. According to the criterion "manufacturing method", experts distinguish two main types of such structures:

  • profiled. Individual elements of the decorative frame are attached to the profile: cuts, pilasters, moldings, friezes, rods;
  • sculptural. Here it is supposed to use such sculptural elements as atlases, bas-reliefs and caryatids.

A good help when choosing will be the study of a photo of imitation fireplaces with a plaster portal.

Features of manufacturing a corner raised fireplace from drywall

In accordance with the name, such a decorative fireplace is placed in the corner of the room. Thus, the floor and two interlocking walls serve as the supports of the structure. The use of drywall sheets allows you to give the fireplace smooth and curved shapes and perfectly fit it into the interior of your apartment.

And in this embodiment, the final product is often equipped with a top shelf. By placing decorative items on it, the owner will bring a touch of sophistication and originality to the home.

The following advantages of such a design solution can be distinguished:

  • saving indoor space;
  • in almost any room you can find a free corner and place a false fireplace in it;
  • this placement allows you to increase the size of the corner fireplace. Due to this, the decorative component of the interior of the housing will increase;
  • installing a false fireplace in the corner does not create obstacles to moving around the room;
  • any House master will be able to mount the design of a corner decorative fireplace with his own hands. Photos of this product will be the best assistant in carrying out such work. To increase the level of visual appeal, decorate the corner false oven with natural or, ceramic tiles etc. In addition, elements made of polyurethane and gypsum can be used for decoration, for example, in the form of columns.

Note! One of the most common design solutions is the installation of a false oven in the corner opposite front door. Then the decorative fireplace will become the central accent of the interior.

What tools and materials will be needed to make a false plasterboard fireplace

Beginners don't know how to do artificial fireplace drywall portal, should heed the recommendations of professionals. The main advice is formulated as follows: before starting work, you need to decide on the design of the product and create a drawing. It is this scheme that will allow you to calculate the approximate amount of materials.

Typically, the case will require:

  • drywall. It is sold in sheets with different sizes;
  • metallic profile. A frame is created from it;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • putty and primer;
  • lining material.

A metal profile made of galvanized sheet acts as the basis for fastening the elements of the fireplace portal. During installation, several types of such products are used: arched, guide, rack, corner profiles.

To build a frame, the following tools should be at hand:

  • grinder - angle grinder;
  • level, better laser;
  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • long ruler and tape measure;
  • square.

The beginning of work on the installation of a raised plasterboard corner fireplace

The choice of installation site is made taking into account the following factors:

  • distance from other objects. Placing the structure close to cabinets and other furniture is not the best solution. The fireplace will not look here;

  • the presence of free space - in it the fireplace attracts the attention of others more;
  • away from windows. Even a decorative fireplace is always associated with warmth. And near the window opening, such an association can be broken.

Having chosen a place, we draw a drawing. It should display the parameters of each element of the false furnace. There are two options here: choose from the Network already ready plan or create a drawing yourself. In favor of the first, he says that you will definitely be sure of the correctness of the indicated figures characterizing the dimensions of all structural details.

Having made a drawing, we apply markings on the floor and walls. Having done this, check all the lines for level. Even the slightest irregularities must be excluded.

On a note! Before you go to the building materials store to buy elements of the future frame, you should calculate the optimal thickness of the metal profile, taking into account the magnitude of the load. Evaluation "by eye" is unacceptable.

How to install a corner decorative fireplace made of drywall

The appearance of certain nuances is due to the angular arrangement of the false furnace. To assemble a frame from metal profiles, the following sequence of actions is performed:

  • we install the starting profile along the walls on the floor. It must converge in the corner;
  • then we build the base of the fireplace on the floor. We collect it by standard scheme using guide profiles;
  • along the lines in the corner and along the walls we fasten the guide profile, which is included in the starting one fixed on the floor;
  • all fastenings between profiles and walls, as well as the floor, are carried out using dowels.

The basis is metal profiles of different types

Remember that the key to the strength of the entire structure is a stable and powerful foundation. After its installation, we proceed to the assembly of the frame and the niche of the fireplace portal. First, we insert the guide profiles into the base and remove the box. After that, we fix the jumpers between the guide profiles. We connect the profiles to each other using screws for metal. The final stage of the installation of the frame is the laying of wires through which power will be supplied to devices that simulate a real flame.

Sheathing the frame and decorating a false fireplace

Plasterboard sheets are used for sheathing. Meanwhile, in the context of the question of how to make a fireplace from this material in an apartment, this procedure has the following features:

  • to sheathe the inside of the portal and the base, you will have to cut drywall sheets into small pieces;
  • at this stage, you will need a much larger number of perforated corners than in the previous ones. Only with them the created structure will have ideal right angles.

In all other respects, the sheathing of the frame with plasterboard sheets is carried out according to the standard scheme. Upon completion, proceed to decorate the fireplace with your own hands. When choosing a finishing option, it is necessary to focus, first of all, on the design features of the living space.

Most often, ceramic tiles, decorative bricks and artificial stone are used for external coating. To fasten the finishing components, liquid nails or tile adhesive are used. If the cladding is done with tiles of the correct shape, it is necessary to lay them so that the gaps are the same. To achieve this result will allow the use of special plastic crosses.

However, for the finishing of a decorative fireplace in an apartment in a multi-storey building, a less expensive option is allowed. For example, using paint decorative plaster. In this case, the surface should be carefully processed with putty, all irregularities should be eliminated and the joints between the skin components should be repaired.

Important! Even a neatly cut drywall sheet will have notches on the edges. Before puttying, they must be removed with sandpaper.

In conclusion, it remains to place an electric fireplace in the opening of the "firebox". However, you can decorate the free space in accordance with your taste preferences. So, one of the great options for a classic interior is the arrangement of warm and soft lighting in the “firebox”.

In general, today there are many ideas for decorating a decorative fireplace. You can implement the proposed solutions, or come up with your own, unique.

Do-it-yourself artificial fireplace from boxes

Pressed paper containers will help create a home that will cost almost nothing.

For this you will need:

  • 10 identical cardboard boxes;
  • scotch;
  • glue;
  • White paper;
  • polystyrene, paper, paints or self-adhesive film with a "brick" pattern.
To make a beautiful false fireplace, first place 2 boxes side by side on the edge, connect them with tape. At the top, install such an exact container, attach in the same way.

Next 4 other boxes arrange in the same way. The resulting 2 fireplace portal posts you need to connect with a cross element from the boxes at the top with adhesive tape. She will also help to wrap the workpiece with paper.

Facing an artificial fireplace can be done in several ways. Cut rectangular sheets of thick paper, cover them with red paint. When it dries, glue it to the front of the fireplace.

You can cut and decorate foam sheets in the same way. If you have a self-adhesive film on the farm, use it.

Put candles in the fireplace niche (taking fire safety precautions) and see how cozy your home will become. With a garland in the hearth, artificial fireplaces look mysterious and romantic.

If you bought a plasma, don't throw away the box. It also makes stylish fireplaces that look great! From such a container with a sharp construction knife, you need to cut off the bottom and make a horizontal cut in the center on the front panel, stepping back 20 cm from above.

Tuck one and the other side of the sidewall inward, fix them with glue. If you don't have a solid box, but you do have sheets of cardboard, use those.

Now it's time to decorate the fake fireplace to make it look like a real one. Glue the styrofoam stucco elements. You can use a white rubber-based sealant. Squeezing a small stream from a tube in a construction gun, feel like real sculptors.

It is better to apply all sorts of curls to a file or a transparent film, under which lies a drawing of the elements, but you can also immediately onto the fireplace portal. It is even easier to draw them with a marker or pencil directly on the cardboard surface. Of course, if there is no adhesive tape on it, extraneous images.

And here is another imitation of a fireplace, which can also be made from cardboard. For such a symbol of the hearth, you will need:

  • a rectangular box, for example, from under a flat-panel TV;
  • ruler;
  • plywood sheet;
  • cardboard;
  • PVA glue;
  • white and gold paint;
  • drawing paper;
  • polystyrene foam and skirting boards from this material;
  • masking tape;
  • special adhesive for PVC.
Put the box in its original position, bend its far sides, pulling the near ones forward. Mark a hole inside with a knife, semicircular on top, bend its edges inward, seal with tape.

Cut out a rectangular element from cardboard, put it horizontally into the firebox. Cut out a tabletop from a sheet of plywood. If you do not have this material, cut it out of thick cardboard.

Cover it with white paper. Decorate with foam skirting boards. From the same material, cut out several rectangular elements, glue them on a false fireplace. Decorate the hearth with gold paint, let it decorate the room.

How to make an artificial plywood portal

If you want to make a durable thing, then take denser materials. The drawing will help you make the exact details. For work, take:
  • plywood;
  • bars;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • hacksaw;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver.
First, make a frame from a bar. Its front part consists of two identical crossbeams, four identical uprights and six small bars, with which this part will be attached to the back of the fireplace, to which you also need to screw the same 6 small bars with self-tapping screws.

This, the second part of the portal, will be located against the wall. It is almost the same as the first one, but 2 vertical bars are nailed on top. Now attach the inner sheets of plywood, then the outer ones. You can decorate a false fireplace or leave it that way.

Installation of an artificial hearth made of drywall

A plasterboard fireplace looks very stylish. To make it, you need the following materials: drywall, fasteners, drywall profile, paint, finishing materials, putty.

And these tools will help you make a stylish drywall fireplace.

  • screwdriver;
  • aluminum profile;
  • metal scissors;
  • perforator;
  • plumb;
  • level;
  • putty knife;
  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • brush.
Fireplaces for an apartment can be made from moisture-resistant or ordinary drywall, but it is not recommended to use a ceiling one, as it is thin. Decide on the shape, size of the future home. Usually these are attached directly to the wall. Mark it up and get creative.

There are markings on the wall, attach an aluminum profile here. It will play the role of a supporting structure. Based on the dimensions of the drawing, attach the frame to the wall with anchors, and then the protruding elements. Sheathe the frame with plasterboard sheets.

Now you can start finishing. Before painting, it is necessary to carefully putty the artificial fireplace, let this layer dry, prime, and after a while apply finishing putty. You also need to go through it with a primer.

Now it's time to apply acrylic or water-based paint. Finishing the fireplace may be different. If you want to glue artificial stone or tiles on the portal, then the design must have sufficient rigidity.

The hearth, which is decorated, looks beautiful Venetian plaster, putty is applied using a special technology so that this material looks like granite, wood or crocodile skin.

You can use this portal as an artificial fireplace by putting light bulbs or decorative firewood in the hearth. The latter is easy to do yourself. Take a thick branch or a thin tree trunk. Saw it on firewood 22-25 cm long. Paint their ends. To do this, you can use not one, but several shades.

If you reliably isolate the inner surface of the portal with a heat-insulating material, you can install an electric fireplace panel inside it. Then the hearth will not only decorate, but also heat the room.

Similar fireplaces can be decorated with boots that are hung on New Year and put gifts in them. If you want a holiday atmosphere to reign not only in winter, but also at other times, you can leave this fireplace decor element on it.

What socks to sew for a fireplace

You can hang these socks on the fireplace portal. If you bought ready-made boots for gifts, you can decorate them yourself by sticking a wavy white braid or, for example, sewing on buttons, brooches.

If you want to sew socks with your own hands, then you can stop at a very interesting option. Such New Year's boots are created from ribbons on the front side and lining.

Enlarge the drawing of the boot and redraw it on a piece of paper. Then attach the pattern to the plain fabric folded in half, cut it out. This is a lining.

For the front side, sew the ribbons into a single fabric. Fold it in half, attach it to the pattern, cut along its borders. Now sew 2 boots - from ribbons and plain fabric. This white sock must be inserted into the colored one so that the seams are inside.

Tuck the sock on top, bending this edge inward, hem, sew a loop of thread, for which you will hang the sock on the fireplace portal. It can be decorated with a boot, where the name of the child will be written. Then all the children will know exactly where his gift lies.

To make such a thing with your own hands, take:

  • plain canvas;
  • crayon;
  • fabric application;
  • synthetic winterizer;
  • scissors;
  • wide braid.
Redraw the pattern on the main fabric, cut out the New Year's appliqué to decorate the bootleg. Place it on the boot, placing a piece of padding polyester, sweep around the edge. Sew on a wide ribbon at the top.

If you have a thick fabric such as felt, then use only that. If the canvas is thin, sew the boot from the lining fabric separately, stitch it inside the main one.

Write the child's name first in chalk, and then with contour paints. You can also decorate a fireplace with such a garland of socks. To do this, you first need to sew a few boots, then sew a ribbon or rope to them.

To do this, sew a loop to each, then combine the socks. Put sweets for children inside and hang on the fireplace portal. Here's how to make it from simple materials and decorate for the New Year or another day with boots for gifts.

Step 1: Making the Frame of the Raised Fireplace

To begin with, let's create a frame - the "skeleton" of the false fireplace design. It consists of three main parts: back, front and base of the bottom.

Cutting:

  • First, let's cut the details for back of the frame, which will be on the side of the wall. You will need two 160cm bars for the top and bottom, four 137cm bars for the side members, and one 106.7cm bar for the bottom support piece (see photo below).

  • Then we cut out the details for front of the fireplace. To do this, you will need (again) to cut two 160 cm long top and bottom boards, 4 137 cm side boards, a 112 cm lintel, and a 160 cm front bottom (the last of the 5 cm x 15 cm board).

  • Now cut out the pieces for bottom base. For the top and bottom you will need two 160 cm long bars, and for the side joints four 19.7 cm long bars.

Assembly:

To create the frame, we will twist everything together using 7.6 cm screws and wood glue (for extra strength).

Let's start with assembly bottom bases:

  1. Put one of bars 160 cm long and attach a short bar at the ends.
  2. Note: hereinafter, by the term “attach”, we will understand the following sequence of actions: we apply wood glue to the bars, glue them together, and then fix this position with screws.
  3. Then measure from each end of a long bar of 38 cm and mark a line. Place a short bar on the inside of each line (that is, with one edge of the bar touching the line, but the bar is located closer to the center from it) and attach.

Now let's build back:

  1. Start by attaching two 137 cm long bars to the edges of the 160 cm long bar, which in this case serves as the bottom of the frame.
  2. Now from the outer edge of the bottom bar measure 19.7cm and draw a line.
  3. Place two more side bars along the marked lines closer to the center (as in the previous case with transverse part frames) and attach.
  4. Then attach the top.

At this point, the back of the frame should look like like this:

Now let's add a support bar (106.7 cm) to the bottom of the back frame. Position it in the center so that the same distances to the side bars remain, apply glue and secure with a clamp so that the bar does not move out. Then fix with screws.

Now let's start building front of the fireplace.

  1. Lay two side bars long 137 cm, and between them a bar 112 cm long(the latter must be put on the wider side, as in the photo).
  2. On the sides, measure 24 cm and mark the line. Install a jumper over these lines and attach to the side pieces.
  3. Attach the top and lower bars 160 cm long to the side bars so that they come out the same distance on both sides. It should look like in the photos:

Now we attach the two remaining side parts (as pictured):

At the bottom of the frame you need to attach a bar measuring 160 cm x 10 cm x 15 cm. Here's what happens:

Compound:

We have already made three separate parts, and now we need to connect them together. As connecting elements, we need six bars measuring 30.5 cm x 5 cm x 10 cm, and one bar measuring 14 cm x 5 cm x 10 cm. They are shown in the photo below. And also a bar measuring 112 cm x 5 cm x 15 cm.

Take the front and back of the fireplace and place them on the ground with the front on top. Now take a 14 cm long piece of wood and attach it between the wide board at the bottom of the front frame and the support board at the bottom of the back frame. It must be located center - see photo .

Now add fasteners at the bottom of the sides. To do this, we need two 30.5 cm long bars. Since so far the front and back frame are connected only in one place at the bottom, before attaching these side bars, make sure that the frames lie flat on top of each other. Attach the bars, as in the photo(on the other hand as well):

Take a 112cm x 5cm x 15cm piece of wood and attach it to the back of the jumper on the front of the frame. Add additional screws through the side bars.

Now take the base frame of the bottom and attach it to the bars connecting the front and back frames. Like this:

Add two more connecting bars on the sides so that they reach the top of the base frame, as in the photo:

Now take the last two bars, 30.5 cm long, and insert them into the gap that formed after attaching the bottom base frame (symmetrically on both sides). Attach with screws on the side.

This completes the frame for the fireplace and you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Making the fireplace mantel

Now it's time to sheathe the fireplace with MDF or plywood panels. We need pieces of these sizes:

  • 28.5 cm x 170 cm, 17.8 cm x 115 cm - 2 pieces,
  • 26.7 cm x 99 cm - 2 pieces,
  • 17.8 cm x 99 cm - 2 pieces,
  • 28.5 cm x 30.5 cm - 2 pieces.

Now you need to cut out the part to cover the top of the bottom of the fireplace. It can be made from a sheet of MDF or chipboard (stronger). First you need a rectangle measuring 35.5 cm x 177.8 cm.

Now this the rectangle needs to be transformed as follows:

  • step back on one of the long sides from the edge of 9 cm and measure 24 cm from this point, measure 17.8 cm upwards from both points, you get a small rectangle (outline the same from the other edge).
  • These two rectangles need to be cut out to get this board:

  • Cut out from MDF 6 sticks size 2.5 cm x 19 cm, and one measuring 2.5 cm x 167.6 cm. The photo below shows some of them:

We will also need a 21.6 cm x 109.2 cm rectangle. This is for the bottom of the fireplace.

  • Also cut a sheet of 170cm x 28cm for the front cover and 26.7cm x 177.8cm for the top.
  • And further 2 pieces measuring 21.6 cm x 28 cm.

Fireplace assembly

Now we will mount all this on the fireplace. Let's start by attaching the top to the bottom of the fireplace. The notches of the board should be around the side columns. Fasten the structure with screws.

Then take 2 pieces measuring 28.5 cm x 30.5 cm and attach them to the bottom sides. Then take a sheet measuring 28.5 cm x 170 cm and attach it to the lower front of the fireplace. Here's what happens:

Mounting columns

Your fireplace should now look like this:

In order for the coating to have a certain relief, we will add bars 2.5 cm wide.

  • From the top of the fireplace, measure 26.7 cm and mark a line.
  • Below this line, attach two 2.5cm x 19cm pieces to the outside of the columns to create a 2.5cm high relief.
  • Then take the 2.5cm x 167.6cm piece and attach it to the front so that it overlaps the sides.

Now we will use two other bars measuring 2.5 cm x 19 cm and a sheet measuring 21.6 cm x 109.2 cm. The sheet must be attached directly above the relief bar, thus making a partition between the columns. And attach two small pieces above the sheet to the inside of each column.

Now attach the cover on top of the front:

Take the last two pieces of 2.5 cm x 19 cm and attach them to the top of the columns, as shown in the photo:

Then attach the 21.6 cm x 28 cm side covers on both sides:

And the last part this stage- we fix the upper part of the coating measuring 26.7 cm x 177.8 cm. Make sure that the coating comes out the same size on the sides.

The main covering of the fireplace is ready! Hooray!

Step 3: Finishing the Raised Fireplace

Now that the design of the fireplace is created, we will work on it. appearance. Let's add the relief details of the fireplace, paint it, and generally put it in order.

For further actions, we need to cut the materials into such pieces:

  1. For front: 4 pieces measuring 5 cm x 27.3 cm, 4 pieces measuring 5 cm x 39.7 cm, and 2 pieces measuring 5 cm x 72.4 cm.
  2. For sides: 4 pieces measuring 5 cm x 23 cm, 2 measuring 5 cm x 27.3 cm, and 2 measuring 3.8 cm x 27.3 cm.
  3. Also for the columns you need: 4 pieces measuring 3.8 cm x 21.6 cm and 4 measuring 3.8 cm x 87.6 cm.
  4. In addition, you will need 20 boards measuring 7.6 cm x 19 cm.

You also need to make one plank 177.8 cm long and cut off the ends in it at an angle of 45 degrees. Two short strips should be 26.7 cm long and only one needs to be cut in each of them end at a 45 degree angle.

The panel imitating brickwork should be 122 cm x 93.3 cm. To avoid the standard "brick" color, the panel can be painted white (we'll do that here).

Fastening

Now that all the details are ready, you can attach them to the structure fireplace!

  • Let's start with the lower front part, we will fasten the parts from left to right.
  • At the left end, attach a 5 cm x 27.3 cm block (it should extend 1.3 cm over the edge so that it fits well with the overlay side bars later).
  • Then attach two 5cm x 39.7cm pieces perpendicular to the first piece.
  • Now attach the next 5 cm x 27.3 cm vertical bar, and perpendicular to it two 5 cm x 72.4 cm horizontal ones.
  • Then another vertical block measuring 5 cm x 27.3 cm, and again two horizontal bars measuring 5 cm x 72.4 cm.
  • And finally, the last vertical bar measuring 5 cm x 27.3 cm.

Now we will work on the sides. Take a 3.8 cm x 27.3 cm block and attach it vertically on the left edge of the side. Next, attach two 5 cm x 23 cm horizontal bars at the top and bottom, and another vertical size 5 cm x 27.3 cm. Repeat the same for the other side.

Column plating

Now we will sheathe the columns. Start by attaching a 5 cm x 87.6 cm bar to the left front of the vertical column (it should extend 1.3 cm over the edge). Add 5cm x 19cm horizontal bars to the top and bottom of the front of the column, and then another vertical one (this one will also extend over the edge).

To sheathe the sides of the columns, first attach a 3.8cm x 87.6cm vertical piece to the left. Then add 5cm x 10cm horizontal pieces to the top and bottom, and finally another 5cm x 87.6cm vertical piece. Repeat this process for the outer and inner sides of both columns.

Now we will make additional reliefs on the front of the columns. Attach two 3.8cm x 87.6cm pieces vertically to the sides, and then add 3.8cm x 21.6cm horizontal bars.

Now, to finish the front of the columns, you will need 20 boards measuring 7.6 cm x 19 cm. You can start fastening either from above or below, it does not matter. To get the same distance between the boards when fastening, you can insert 2 coins as separators. You may need to cut the last board to fit. Do this for both columns.

This is how it should look like in the end :

Now let's deal with the top of the fireplace.

  1. Take a piece of wood with a 1.9cm x 1.9cm square cross-cut and stick it right under the fireplace top board (front and sides).
  2. Then attach a 5cm x 172.7cm piece of wood from the front directly below the newly attached piece.
  3. On the sides you get a protrusion of 1.3 cm on each side. Then take four 5cm x 16cm pieces and attach them vertically.
  4. Start at one end and attach in such a way that the bar protrudes 1.3 cm over the edge, that is, ends flush with the top horizontal bar 172.7 cm long.
  5. Measure 26.7cm and attach another 5cm x 16cm piece. Do this on each side. Then attach a second 5cm x 172.7cm horizontal piece to the bottom.

Next, we need to sheathe the sides of the top of the fireplace.

  1. Take a 5 cm x 23 cm block and attach it horizontally (under the block with a 1.9 cm x 1.9 cm cut and butt against the 1.3 cm protruding blocks from the front).
  2. Now attach a 3.8 cm x 16 cm vertical bar.
  3. Add a second 5cm x 23cm piece to the bottom piece and complete this side by adding the last 5cm x 23cm piece.

Repeat on the other side.

To complete the trim, attach the front and sides to the top battens (the ones with the 1.9 cm x 1.9 cm cut) the battens cut lengthwise. at an angle of 45 degrees (that is, with a triangular cut).

After attaching all the details of the skin, you need to apply putty to close up all the holes, and then level the surface with grinding. Now the fireplace is finally possible paint it white!

After the paint is completely dry, attach the faux brick panel to the back using 2.5 cm screws.

Remove any gaps you want to fill:

Step 4: Fastening

The design of this fireplace is quite stable in itself, but additional fastening to the wall still does not hurt. This can be done in several ways, here we will use a homemade wooden bracket.

We will need:

  • 1 bar measuring 2.5 cm x 3.8 cm x 106.7 cm
  • 1 bar measuring 2.5 cm x 5 cm x 106.7 cm.

Join these two pieces together in an "L" shape, with the 5cm x 106.7cm piece vertical.

Attach this bracket to the wall. Mounting height depends on whether your fireplace will be on carpet or just on the floor. When we move the fireplace against the wall, the bracket should touch the inside of the bottom board of the top of the fireplace, that is, be above the " brickwork". Here is the bracket at a distance of 120 cm from the floor:

The fireplace with the bracket must be connected with screws from the side of the lower board of the upper part of the fireplace. Put a few logs of firewood on the bottom for decoration and you're done!

On top of the fireplace for decor, you can put a few magazines and put figurines or candles. It turned out a wonderful decoration for the hall and the apartment as a whole!

For a long time, fireplaces have ceased to be bulky brick structures that are used to heat homes. Now they are increasingly used for decorative purposes, and heating occurs due to electricity. More and more people live in city apartments, where it is impossible to install a real fireplace, and it is not necessary. Therefore, electrical analogues are installed or imitations are created from various materials. In the latter case, the most popular material for creating such a decorative element is drywall.

They make a decorative fireplace with their own hands from drywall for two reasons:

  1. Protect the room from heat sources and increase their efficiency. In this case, a special device is bought that is powered by the mains and simulates a flame, but gives off heat. In this case, refractory drywall for the fireplace is used.
  2. For decorating the interior with a fake fireplace without a heat source. For plating, any GKL is suitable.

Regardless of the reason, you can create a fireplace from hl with your own hands, because the order of work will be the same. This design has a number of advantages:

  • security. The absence of open fire and the use of GKLO reduce the risk of fire to a minimum;
  • homemade drywall fireplace has simple design. Although it is possible to create such complex projects that they can occupy huge areas;
  • the use of GKL allows you to create any shape of the fireplace, even the most bizarre. You can even create a design with a chimney;
  • the size of the room does not play a big role, because the installation of the structure can be carried out anywhere, even in the corner;
  • lining can be carried out using any materials.

Varieties of false fireplaces

All false fireplaces can be divided into three categories: authentic, conditional and symbolic. Having understood which of the options you are interested in, you can begin to implement it.

Decorative chimney gives more authenticity to the whole structure

Authentic fireplaces are made to be exact replicas of the original designs.. If this option is used outside the apartment, then you will never think that this is an imitation. A characteristic feature of such structures is the use of furnaces where combustion is carried out. various kinds fuel. The imitation comes out so good that it has the appropriate dimensions and design principles. Such a plasterboard fireplace in the interior can look very massive, and it is rational to install it in a cottage where there are large rooms.

Having the dimensions of the future design, you can calculate how much profile, fasteners and GKL will be required. Let us remind you once again that you need heat-resistant drywall for a fireplace only if there is a heating element inside the structure being created. Otherwise, the material for finishing the metal frame is suitable.

To make it easier to work, you need to make a drawing of a plasterboard fireplace with dimensions. After that, the dimensions can be transferred to the wall so that you can see exactly where to mount the frame. At this stage, you will need a level (ideally a laser one) so that the finished structure is not skewed. By the way, for work you will need the following tools and fasteners:

  • level to create a smooth structure;
  • metal guide profile to create a frame;
  • metal scissors for cutting profiles;
  • tape measure for performing various measurements;
  • electric drill and dowels for attaching the frame to the wall;
  • drywall for sheathing the frame;
  • knife for cutting GKL according to the given dimensions;
  • a screwdriver and self-tapping screws for attaching the frame elements to each other and drywall to the profile.

Additionally, materials for finishing will be required (trowel, putty, tape for seams and facing material). At the very end, we will consider the question of how to finish a plasterboard fireplace.

Assembly and fastening of the frame

There should be markings on the wall and on the floor so that it is clear where the do-it-yourself plasterboard fireplace frame will be installed. For its assembly, rack or guide profiles can be used. You can assemble the frame separately, and then attach it to the wall, but it is better not to resort to this method. You can miss with a hit in the markup, and it is inconvenient to mount the entire bulky structure. It's better to do everything in sequence. You need to make do-it-yourself fireplaces from drywall step by step, and not try to combine several stages into one or skip them.

It is advisable to provide a stand in the frame

First of all, the guides are attached to the wall and to the floor. To do this, you need to outline the places of their fixation, after which holes are drilled with a drill, and the profiles are attached to the wall and to the floor with dowels. It is not necessary to cut the profile into many pieces, because it can be cut with scissors, and then simply bent at a right angle. In this case, the guide on the floor and the wall will be the same, and there will be no need to worry about everything being installed on the same line.

Vertical guides are checked with a plumb line to ensure they are fixed evenly. Ideally, use a laser level.

Racks are inserted into the guide profiles on the floor, which are fastened with metal screws. These posts run from the bottom profiles to the top, where they will be fixed into rails that are mounted parallel to the profile on the floor. You should get some kind of parallelepiped if you assemble the simplest design. This will be the main frame, in which you will still need to make a place to insert a heater. A drawing of a false plasterboard fireplace will help with this.

Frame option without anchoring to the floor

Jumpers between the racks are installed at the height at which the electric fireplace will be installed. One of the guide profiles at this height is attached to the wall. It turns out a quadrangle, which will be the bottom of the niche. For greater reliability, you can add a few more jumpers inside this rectangle (relevant for heavy heaters). All other elements of the frame are assembled in a similar way. For example, you can create a drywall fireplace box that will mimic a chimney.

Plasterboard sheathing

On top of the fireplace, you can install a wooden tabletop for decor

GKL must be cut so that it can be used for sheathing the assembled frame. It is not difficult to guess how to sheathe the structure with drywall. Just take drywall sheets and fasten them with self-tapping screws. Facing the fireplace with drywall with your own hands begins with a niche for an electric fireplace, into which it is then inserted. If mistakes were made, then part of the structure may have to be reassembled again. If the fireplace went perfectly, then we take it out and continue to work.

The main characteristics of wall (GKL) and refractory (GKLO) drywall
NameSize in mm.Leaf area in sq.m.Sheet weight in kg.Colour
GKL1200x2000x12.52,4 23 Grey
1200x2500x12.53 29
1200x3000x12.53,6 35
GKL1200x2000x12.52,4 26 Pink
1200x2500x12.53 31
1200x3000x12.53,6 37

After sheathing the internal space of the structure, you need to move on to the outside. We fasten everything with small self-tapping screws in increments of 15 cm. The procedure is quite standard and ordinary. Do not forget that the caps of the self-tapping screws should be flush (do not protrude and not be pressed in too much). Now you know how to make a fake drywall fireplace, but that's not all.

It is possible to provide specially double walls for the furnace hole (if it is used for its intended purpose). A non-combustible insulation is laid between these walls, for more efficient heating of the room.

Features of corner fireplaces

I would like to dwell on the option of installing a fireplace in a corner. This method has both advantages and disadvantages. Let's talk about the benefits:

  • You can save space, since the occupied area is smaller in the corner.
  • The space of the corner of the room is used, and usually the corners are empty.
  • Less consumption of materials and lower cost of the entire structure.
  • Looks original and stylish.

Unfortunately, a do-it-yourself corner false fireplace made of drywall will also have disadvantages. There is not always a free corner of sufficient size so that there is no window with a radiator. Even if the window is far away, then there are curtains that will interfere. Therefore, always two corners in the room cannot be used.

Imitation of a chimney will not steal space and will look stylish

The remaining two corners are usually formed by the part of the wall where the doors are located. For some people, if a do-it-yourself corner decorative fireplace made of drywall is located in such a place, then this is unacceptable from the point of view of room design.

Step-by-step instruction

For the most part, the creation of corner false fireplaces from plasterboard is not much different from the above procedure for frontal structures. The main difference is in the shape of the frame.

Do-it-yourself drywall corner fireplace - step by step instructions:

  1. Size calculation. Everything needs to be accounted for. For example, a heating pipe running along the corner of the wall that needs to be hidden. It can interfere with assembling a solid frame. If the battery is hidden, then you should definitely provide for a design feature that will make it easy to get to it if necessary. When a drywall corner fireplace is assembled, the dimensions of all elements must be carefully considered.
  2. We mount the frame. For this, the cheapest profile or the one with which it is most convenient to work will fit. There are no special requirements for guides.
  3. We provide electrical wiring. These can be sockets or wiring to illuminate the finished structure. Especially additional lighting is relevant if the work is carried out with a large frame.
  4. The frame is sheathed with sheets of drywall.
  5. Finishing coating is being carried out.

Here's how to make a drywall fireplace yourself. You just need to follow the sequence of work in the instructions.

Finishing - the last step

The fireplace must harmoniously fit into the interior of the room where it is installed. That is why it is so important to choose the right finish. The most popular materials for such work are decorative bricks, ceramic tiles and artificial stone. However, for these purposes, ordinary paint is often used.

With the right finish, no one will guess the use of drywall

Before painting a drywall fireplace, it is puttied, making all surfaces smooth. Then everything is painted twice water-based paint with the help of a brush. For other types of finishes, you will have to use plaster compositions so that nothing falls off. All this significantly increases the weight of the structure. So you need to know in advance whether the drywall will be faced with ceramic tiles (stone) or not.

It is not so difficult to make a fireplace in an apartment with your own hands from drywall, as it may seem. The main thing is to correctly carry out calculations and use the level, do not forget about jumpers and finishing.
