The device of a folded metal roof. Types of metal seam roofing: steel, copper, galvanized, titanium - how not to make a mistake when choosing? Installation of roof slopes on the example of a gable roof

Seam roofing is a great option for roofs with a slight slope. The German masters invented the seam roof (you may have already guessed by the name). In translation, "falz" means just a gutter, and the installation of a seam roof consists of such simple connections - they snapped or clamped, and that's it. But why then, with such simplicity, seam roofing is not common?

The problem is that before the fold was made from sheets only by hand. The process was time-consuming, the joints were not too smooth, and it was difficult to talk about the tightness of such a roof. And only with the advent of professional equipment, seam roofing rediscovered itself: even joints, any length and speed of installation did their job. Want to know more?

The roof, which is made from individual metal sheets, is called a seam. Seam roofing appeared in Russia a little over 100 years ago, and quickly gained its popularity. And with the production of mechanical and electric seaming tools (previously, the folds were connected only by hand), its installation became available to everyone. See for yourself:

From the advantages:

  • The light weight of the roof, which is valuable for any buildings.
  • Excellent leak protection. All thanks to tightness! There are no through holes anywhere on the seam roof that could become a hotbed of corrosion or other problems.
  • Seam roofing is also attractive for its ease of installation, which almost anyone can handle.
  • Such a roof can be made not only on ordinary pitched roofs, but also on more complex architectural objects.
  • The seam roof looks aesthetically pleasing and is combined with any kind of building materials.
  • The main advantage of a folded roof is 100% tightness of the roofing, under which neither snow nor rainwater can get through. The fact is that in such a roof there are a minimum of holes, unlike a metal profile, which means a minimal risk of moisture getting into the under-roof space. No corrosion!
  • 20 years minimum service life. In principle, seam roofing is also durable due to the fact that its joints are inaccessible to water. Plus, it does not have transverse seams and open joints that would prevent water runoff and snow melting.

And a fairly simple installation:

We note right away that all the shortcomings that are usually attributed to the seam roof come from improper installation.

  • So, the most common complaints are about the strong noise from the rain, when the drops simply drum on the seam roof. To avoid this, the crate must be used perfectly flat, then the metal sheets will fit tightly enough to it and not create a noise effect.
  • Periodically repair of folds is necessary. See how they were made and with what.
  • An avalanche of snow. Yes, on such a flat roof, he has nothing left to do but quickly move out, but what are the snow holders for then? In Europe, for example, even a house is not insured if there are no such elements on the roof.
  • Simple design and lack of a rich choice of colors and textures. Yes, not everyone likes the minimalist aesthetics of a seam roof. But a matter of taste is always a subjective matter, and someone in the same way does not want to see the ubiquitous metal tile in the eyes.

Now look what else you can do to get rid of the noise:

Choice of design and material

To make it convenient for you, we suggest to start with a little understanding of the concepts.

Paintings- these are rectangular metal elements with folds, which are mounted on the roof. The standard form is steel sheets in the form of a rectangle with carved corners. From the pictures and spread the seam roof.

Falz- This is a specific seam, which is obtained by bonding together different sheets of metal. The advantage is that with such a connection, the density is quite high, and neither sealants nor adhesives are needed to ensure complete tightness. And, in addition to their main task, the folds play the role of stiffening ribs for the entire roof.

Klammer- This is a special piece of fasteners that is nailed directly to the base of the roof. A simple clamp has the same shape as the future fold blank, and the movable one ensures the future thermal expansion of the metal (compression and tension in different time of the year).

As you can see, everything is simple and you don’t need to bother with anything.

Painting material

Seam roofs are made from both galvanized steel and various non-ferrous metals. Here are the materials most often used for seam roofing today:

Option #1 - steel

The most common option. Steel seam roofing can be galvanized, non-galvanized or additionally coated with a polymer. Of the advantages - corrosion resistance, low cost and durability (60 years of service).

But over time, the steel, unfortunately, noticeably tarnishes. And therefore, for the installation of a seam roof, steel paintings need to be taken only those that are covered with a colored multi-layer coating. And when buying those, make sure that they have a special protective film on them - this is the only way the material will not be scratched during transportation.

But in any case, even a high-quality polymer coating on the roof will not be durable: due to sunlight, acid rain and the most important enemy - the humid maritime climate.

Option #2 - Copper

This is the most beautiful roof that just burns on a sunny day. Its main plus is that no biological living creatures will take root on it, especially moss. But there are a lot of minuses - such a metal is soft, requires careful handling and is quite expensive.

Over time, copper also becomes covered with a patina - a layer of oxides, and becomes a dark brown color. And even later - green, and nothing needs to be restored. And it is precisely because of oxides that copper cannot be combined with other materials on a seam roof.

Copper seam roofing is also valuable for its flexibility - it is easy to make roofing architectural masterpieces with it, not to mention simple roofs:

Option #3 - Zinc

The zinc seam roof is additionally covered with a protective layer - zinc carbonate. Over time, such a roof acquires a chic silver-gray color. A zinc roof lasts for about 50 years, which is relatively short, and therefore in Europe this material is no longer used for making paintings.

Option #4 - Aluminum

Such a roof is the most resistant to mechanical damage and corrosion, and can last more than 100 years! A pleasant silvery sheen will only please the eye.

In addition, this material is lighter than steel and more resistant to corrosion. But aluminum is bad because it expands and contracts much more with temperature changes. That is why the installation of such a roof has its own characteristics:

Option #5 - zinc-titanium

This is a strong, successful alloy of zinc and titanium: zinc does not corrode, and titanium has both strength and ductility. This spav is also valuable for designers, because over time it becomes covered with a noble patina. The roof looks great!

Option #6 - Aluzinc

Aluzinc is a steel picture with an aluminum-zinc coating that has valuable self-healing properties and perfectly protects scratches and cuts from corrosion.

Option # 7 - an alloy of three metals

Titanium-zinc-copper alloy. There is not much copper here, only 0.005%, but this is enough to give the roofing material plasticity, which makes profiling easier.

Special coating

If your home is located in a seaside area or an area with poor environmental conditions, or simply with a hot and humid climate, then purchase folded paintings covered with pural. Only this polymer is able to protect at a high level from sea air, rain with acid impurities and scorching ultraviolet radiation.

Production technology

Seam roofing is also divided according to production technology - into cast and rolled.

Cast roofing has been used in Russia for a long time, and its reliability has already been tested. It is easy to mount such a seam roof with your own hands and without special tools, there are no transverse seams, and the surface is solid and durable. But rolled seam roofing is already a new technology with its own advantages and disadvantages. These are metal strips for the entire length of the slope, and immediately with prepared edges on a special machine. The fold is formed double.

And according to the width of the paintings and the presence of stiffeners, the folded roof is divided into the following types:

  • Double fold and two stiffening ribs. Such a roof is most in demand in the industrial sector. She breaks warehouses and large buildings with a variety of roof slopes. Standard width - 5.57 m, working - 5.45 m.
  • Double fold and two stiffeners, but less width - 35.2 m (working 3.4 m). Such roofs cover the roofs of cottages, large residential buildings and historical monuments.
  • Double fold without stiffening ribs. There are also two types of such roofs, based on the actual width - 5.57 m and 3.52 m. Both are quite suitable for residential buildings and ordinary private houses.

And folded panels can also be ordinary and starting, trapezoidal and parallel:

Market offers

If we talk about brands, in Russia, as well as abroad, the most popular Finnish seam roofing from Ruukki, with self-latching seams.

More pleasant prices - for the materials of the domestic plant "Insi". It has been on the market for more than 16 years, and is quite pleased with the quality of its products. In production, there are both ordinary glossy and matte paintings, as well as unique ones, to create a special roof design.

Seam roof installation technology

For the installation of such a roof, neither special supports, nor expensive lifting equipment, nor additional consumables are needed.

Stage I. We prepare the base

It is possible to arrange seam roofs both on the crate and on a solid base. Both bars and metal hat profile are suitable.

It is only important to adhere to the step between the rafters of no more than 2.5 meters - otherwise even the strongest steel sheets run the risk of bending, and the seams will immediately disperse:

But how to bend the lining sheet yourself:

Stage II. Working with paintings

On the workplace You can bring both ready-made paintings and rolled steel, which you will cut on the spot.

As soon as the steel paintings are ready, they are raised to the roof. Lay out along the cornice directly on the crate and start installation from the middle.

Stage III. We prepare additional elements

For the roofing of roof edges, valleys, ridges and elements such as a chimney, a roof joint and a dormer window, it is necessary to make ready-made paintings from rolled steel in advance - but already in a figured shape.

Here detailed master class how to make your own dropper for a seam roof:

Stage IV. We bend the folds

So, we moved on to the most important technological issue: how to make folds?

Connection types

Folds in such paintings are single and double, standing and recumbent. To simplify, all horizontal folds are called recumbent, and vertical folds are called standing:

Single standing seam is the easiest to install:

A double fold is a double fold of an edge. It must be done in the most problematic places on the roof, where snow and water usually accumulate - valleys, gutters and other complex joints. It is the strongest and tightest, which is why it is the most popular abroad.

Double standing seam is recommended for roof pitches less than 25°. True, in Russia double fold is still considered an unreasonably expensive technology. Although in fact the price is exceeded quite a bit, but the reliability of such a connection is much greater. Here is how you can make it during the roofing process:

But, if you want the seams between the paintings not to be visible, and the entire roof to look even, then make recumbent folds. And horizontally, the paintings are connected to each other only by recumbent folds - so that the coverage is maximum. If the captured steel strip does not reach the depth, such pictures will disperse over time.

The third type is an angular standing fold, which is also called L-shaped. It is recommended for roofs with slopes greater than 25°. In execution, it is simpler than a regular fold - you just need to correctly bend the top edge of the seam.

Stiffener Height

And now let's talk about the height of the fold, which also serves as a stiffener for such a roof. The fact is that this connection is absolutely waterproof, unless it is exposed to standing water. But where on the roof can it come from in this form? Very simple - from the thickness of the snow. Therefore, the height of the fold matters, and in especially snowy regions it is made considerable.

Additional sealing

Additionally, in order to prevent water from entering the seam, special sealing gaskets are installed in the rebate during installation. A special material is used that calmly tolerates high temperatures (up to 90 ° C) and compression, because rolling mechanisms for folds will still be used.

Another important point: all fasteners that you will use must be only anti-corrosion. Otherwise, in a couple of years, a new beautiful roof will be covered with rusty streaks.

Rebate technology

You can fasten the folds together with a hammer and wooden beams, with a special hand tool or with the help of electromechanical machines. The simplest option is a frame:

Before you bend the recumbent fold, the picture must be attached to the flooring with a separate narrow strip in order to stabilize its position.

The bend is done from the front and back, and on the left and right - vertical elements subfolder.

Clamp application

The most common fastening method is clamps. They are bent by 25 mm, and the paintings are nailed on the right side.

Clamp - a metal strip made of galvanized steel, 80-120 cm long and 0.5-0.7 mm thick. You can cut a clamp from a regular galvanized sheet with a simple hand tool. Next, place the clamps along the edge of the paintings every 60 cm and fasten with self-tapping screws (4.8x28).

So, first we put the picture on the crate, then we fix it with a clamp, and only then we cover it with another picture. You need to nail the clamps along the connection line of two paintings: one sheet is placed on the clamp from above, and the second is slipped from below, and we wrap three layers of metal in one direction, after which we close the folds to the end. We press, and we get a strong and reliable connection with a clamp, which is hidden inside and holds both sheets on the roof. This mount is a 100% guarantee for long years from leaks and cold air.

Now let's see how the work of a professional differs from an amateur. So, for the usual home master with quite dexterous hands, one mallet, scissors and a hook bender are enough to install gutters. But an experienced person, a specialist in his field, is armed with at least a dozen expensive special scissors, not to mention frames, pliers and other tools. Moreover, the total cost of such a set can be more expensive than the folding machine itself.

To close folds today, a semi-automatic tool is most often used, the use of which gives many significant advantages:

  • High performance.
  • High quality seam.
  • Preservation of the polymer coating of paintings.
  • Ability to work with metal of any thickness.

More recently, paintings have also been produced whose folds are easily snapped into place by pressing - and no tools!

One of the oldest and most reliable ways of roofing is a metal seam roof (today it is mainly galvanized metal). Individual parts This type of roofing is very tightly bonded to each other and serve as a reliable barrier to wind loads and maximally prevent the flow of water at the seams.

It is not for nothing that such a galvanized roof is installed everywhere on church buildings that are built to last!

And many builders today prefer such a roof to all other options.

Reliable construction - seam metal roofing

Seam roofing made of galvanized steel is a metal roofing covering, where elements (patterns) are connected by means of seams-bends. Such products are called folding cards. It is this type of connection that is progressive, technologically correct and reliable today.

Seam roofing appeared a long time ago - several centuries ago. In the past, according to some historical data, lead served as the material of the roof seam. Later, in the construction of such roofing, they began to use copper, which is still in great demand among those who want to make a very stylish roof. In addition, a copper or copper-colored gutter system is perfect for a copper roof.

Today the most sought after available material for the manufacture of the roof - steel for the seam roof. Most of the monuments of Russian architecture of the past centuries were built using seam roofs, and our company also carried out the restoration of some of these architectural ensembles in Moscow and the Moscow region.

Seam metal roofing. Technical features

Products have the form of panels-pictures, the length of which reaches 9 meters. Differences in the types of seam seams: standing (side) and recumbent (horizontal), double and single.
Seam galvanized roofing can be made from both sheet and rolled metal. Steel for roofing can be either plain galvanized or polymer-coated. They are successfully used in the construction of roofs, both private and religious, commercial, industrial and administrative.

The process of installing a galvanized rebate is carried out using special tools that simplify this work and make it of the highest quality. There are quite a few varieties of such devices, and one of them is presented in this photo.

We suggest to buy iron fort from our factory. For true aesthetes, plastic galvanized or copper roofing is suitable. If you prefer anti-corrosion and lightweight aluminum, we will provide you with such material. Well, galvanized steel roofing remains the most popular today - this is a bestseller!

“The most important thing is the weather in the house” - this applies not only to relationships within the family, this phrase is not without a direct meaning. A lot depends on what the “head” of your house is covered with and how comfortable the climatic conditions are. To do this, it is very important to choose the right roof covering, the type and type of roofing, the material from which it is made, a quality manufacturer, as well as structures that fit the chosen type of roofing, and much more. The concept of "roof" includes a huge number of details and nuances. And this article will help you figure out what a “modern high-quality coating” is.

Why is seam roofing so popular now?

Fold - a type of seam, with which the connection of sheets of metal roofing is performed. Seam type of roofing is the most modernized and durable way to protect your home from the negative impact of any weather conditions. Tightness, strength, the possibility of using various mounting technologies, materials, modern system fasteners, guaranteed absence of any through holes - distinctive features this type of roof.

Varieties

Copper seam roof

This type of roof has its own varieties, depending directly on the material. The most elite type msingle seam roof.

Copper as a material has its own properties that characterize it, such as high mechanical strength, respectively, suitability for machining, and thanks to the chemical process of "auto-extinguishing" corrosion, copper sheets have such qualities as durability (at least 150 years!). That is why seam roofing made of rolled copper is considered to be a premium class coating.

aluminum roof

Of course, in terms of durability, aluminum is practically not inferior to copper. folding aluminum- one of the new trends in the field of roofing materials. In relation to copper, this is a more affordable option. Features of such a coating are lightness, relative strength, resistance to corrosion. Huge selection colors thanks to the enamel coating - exactly what will help emphasize the individuality of your building.

Seam roofing made of titanium-zinc

Titanium zinc - material that is durable and flexible. But at the same time, it is not as "compliant" as the above materials: due to its capriciousness, titanium-zinc can be quite unpredictable in the winter. What it has in common with copper is that it has a patina in use that makes it almost as durable and noble as copper. And exceptional aesthetics appearance will satisfy any preferences of the most capricious customers.

Enameled galvanized iron

However, in spite of everything, galvanized iron was and remains the most common material for folding. Why? Firstly, of course, due to its low cost compared to other materials. Secondly, because of the galvanization, the roof has good reflective properties and protection against overheating.

But do not forget about the shortcomings of iron - poor sound insulation and a shorter service life - up to 50 years (corrosion processes are still inevitable).

"Pros" and "cons" of seam roofing

In addition to reliability, tightness, strength, an upgraded mounting system and High Quality, the seam coating has many advantages, and in addition to the above:

  • Light weight material. This is very important, because this fact allows you to apply almost any type of design, including the simplest ones, which can save you a lot of money;
  • materials according to their chemical properties are not combustible. And this is a huge plus for security for you and your property;
  • Smooth roof surface. Smoothness allows water to drain quickly and locally without lingering;
  • High flexibility and ductility of metal compared to other roofing materials. Makes it possible to cover roofs of absolutely any shape;
  • Relative ease of repair;
  • Fairly long service life– approximately from 20 to 150 years;
  • Wide range of coating colors;
  • Anti-corrosion coating;
  • This type of roof Suitable for both ventilated and non-ventilated floors and for absolutely any type of foundation;
  • Huge range of widths and lengths panels;
  • Immediate the production of materials takes place either in a factory or on site roofing works from long products thanks to the use of ultra-modern portable equipment;
  • The presence of a ventilation system, snow retention, drainage;
  • Quick and fairly easy installation this type of roof.

Well, and, of course, as in every type construction works, in the seam roofing of roofs there are some shortcomings, although there are not so many of them. Here are some of them:

  • Quite high thermal conductivity, which leads to the formation of icicles on the roof in winter;
  • Due to the smoothness of the roof surface, snow and ice can roll down like an avalanche.

However, this drawback can be eliminated: in winter, hire specialists who will clean the roofs of snow and icicles. In no case do not try to do it yourself without the necessary equipment and experience, because. due to slip and smoothness, the surface is very dangerous!

  • Poor sound insulation;
  • The need to install a lightning rod;
  • With a very detailed examination and approximation, you can see "bruising" on the metal surface, but this in no way affects the quality of the seams.

Climatic conditions for this type of roof

The main feature of our type of climate is seasonality and a wide range of temperature regimes due to this. Among other things, the precipitation of a wide variety of precipitation throughout the year is the most severe test for roofing and roofing materials of any kind and type.

Seam roofing is the most versatile type of roofing for our type of climate, because it protects the house in almost all weather conditions. Including from rain and leakage associated with it, because. there are no through cracks on the surface due to the peculiarity of the seams. As for winter, here, as mentioned above, it is advisable to resort to the help of specialists and spend a little money to ensure complete guaranteed safety for you and your family members.

Useful recommendation: in regions with increased solar activity or with too hot climatic conditions, such a polymer coating for seam roofing as pural. Pural is a polymer that prevents negative effects on metal coatings of such natural factors like high humidity, salts of various compounds after radioactive fallout and other harmful emissions.

Practical application of folding

Folding is one of the most modern methods of mounting a metal coating, which allows you to connect metal sheets to each other using a special seam - a fold (single or double, standing or lying). It is this type of fastening that creates a special kind of pattern on the surface of the roof. The manufacturing technology of such a seam is rather complicated, but it ensures durability, quality and tightness.

Seam roofs find their application everywhere, in all areas of construction: both in municipal, industrial, commercial buildings and buildings, as well as in the private construction of summer cottages, houses and cottages.

Mounting

Installation of any roof is a painstaking task and requires maximum care and certain skills. For the installation of a seam type of roof, two main technologies are mainly used: roll installation technology and traditional technology.

Roll is considered more mobile, since roofing materials are prepared on the spot, this requires sheets of metal of a certain desired length. With this technology, a standing double fold is usually used.

If we talk about traditional technology, then everything is much more complicated than the above, because there are more stages of installation, and they themselves require a lot of time. First you need to prepare the drawings, then create the so-called "painting" blanks - metal sheets. Naturally, for marking and working with this technology, it is necessary to acquire modern tools and special aids. However, the game is worth the candle.

Each of the technologies has its pros and cons, depending on the structural features of your roof, the structures at the base, and the materials.

Below is a step-by-step technology for installing a seam roof with illustrations for each stage.

Favorable weather conditions for installation

Of course, for any construction work Better conditions- warmth and dryness. But, unfortunately, it is not always possible to guess. You need to think through everything to the smallest detail: snowfall, ice, rain, reduced daylight hours, etc. - everything that can delay or extend the work. Remember to carry out roofing work at temperatures below
-15, -20°C is not recommended at all.

And if you are still determined, then the most best advice- this is to stretch the awning over the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe house in order to avoid covering the surface with snow or ice, damage to materials, etc.

Required Tools

You may need a lot of tools and nozzles for them, and the most basic of them:

  • any measuring device, such as a level, plumb line or level - a tool for determining the difference between the heights of certain points on the surface in relation to the set level, for measuring the excess level;
  • scissors (electric for carving and manual for cutting), as well as a nibbler - a special machine for quick sharpening;
  • for the device of the crate, it is better to use a jigsaw and a hacksaw;
  • "Bulgarian";
  • perforator and drill;
  • a pressing gun may also be needed;
  • mallets (both wooden and rubber).

And please use one piece of advice: cutting seam panels with angle grinders is permissible only if the unprocessed areas are protected from sawdust that fly out, and the cut points are painted with an anti-corrosion solution.

Necessary materials and means of installation

There are also a lot of auxiliary tools and special materials that may be needed during the installation process. Looking at the picture, match the numbers and you will see how and what it looks like and where it should be installed.

Rice. 15. Mounting materials

  1. directly the metal sheet itself for folding;
  2. drainage system;
  3. crate;
  4. an important counter-lattice (the so-called counter-bars) - these are bars that are stuffed onto the rafters, directly onto the hydro-barrier material;
  5. waterproofing;
  6. insulation;
  7. vapor barrier;
  8. the most common double-sided tape;
  9. ceiling lining;
  10. technological crate;
  11. rafters;
  12. solid crate;
  13. cornice lining.

roof structure requirements

There are many types of roofs. The main division is based on the slope: pitched and flat. If the slope is more than 10% - this is a pitched roof surface, and up to 2.5% - this is, respectively, flat. Also, roofs can be attic or non-attic (in other words, separate or combined), depending on the design solution. It is possible to divide the roofs into shed (reliance on bearing walls, different from each other in height; suitable for building utility rooms), gable (consist of two slopes that rest on walls of the same height), three-slope, four-slope and multi-slope - depends on the shape of your roof.

Fig.16. shed roof

Rice. 17. Gable roof

Which roof shape will be more suitable for the covering you have chosen? It is better to leave this question for professionals who will be able to inspect your “fortress” “on the spot”. However, it must be taken into account that for the individual construction of residential premises, the most suitable type is usually pitched and sloping roof structures.

The need to install snow guards

Seam roofs, given the smooth surface of the coating, are in dire need of installing this part.

They are installed above the roof railing. If the slope length exceeds 10 meters, it is necessary to install snow retainers in two rows. In advance, in the process of direct installation of the roof, you need to mount an additional profile (usually 12 cm from the crate). The bracket is fastened with a dowel through a sealing gasket (rubber) and a seam panel to the crate.

For safety reasons, do not attach the brackets to the same sheet .

Processing of wooden roof structures

It is highly recommended to process wooden surfaces(mainly, it is antiseptic and flame retardant - fire-fighting treatment). It can be done either before assembly or after assembly of the structure. Before assembly, individual beams and boards are processed by various methods, including immersion in a container with a solution. After assembly, it is possible to process the battens and rafters, both with a spray gun and with a brush, apply the solution.

Roofing dismantling

The dismantling of the roof is just as important as the installation, it is the same painstaking and complex procedure, which requires certain knowledge, experience and special tools.

If you are not sure that you can dismantle the roof correctly, according to all instructions and safety precautions on your own or even with the help of friends and acquaintances, then the best way- Seek help from qualified professionals. They will do it quickly, professionally and efficiently, although not cheap.

For the "correct" dismantling, special tools are used to help remove the roofing material without damage so that it can be reused. This is very important, because it is known that the materials for seam roofing are for the most part not cheap.

Notable Folding Uses

The metal has been firmly tested for thousands of years, and such a technique for joining it as a seam has been at least for centuries, and in combination with modern and modernized installation systems, it makes it indispensable in construction.

Here are some interesting folding examples.

Tampere, Finland

This is not only the building of the city library, but also an interesting specimen modern architecture, which consists of autonomous bodies of different diameters and heights.

Stockholm, Sweden

In this image, we see the use of a seam (both lying and standing seams), as well as the use of a bright architectural solution- "twirling" of metal. This is a photograph of the Swedish museum in honor of the Vassa ship that sank more than three hundred years ago. Such a "torn" image makes the viewer perceive the tragic story of the shipwreck more deeply.

Helsinki, Finland

The peculiarity of the roof of this building is that the joints of its roof are made "in a row" according to the seam technology of the roof from blanks of metal sheets (about 4 m in length).

Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

This building is known as the Gramophone House. Its "highlight" is a bright green roof of a specific shape. Concerning directly the technology applied in this case, we can say that the horizontally spaced blanks are connected by a lying fold, and the use of a single standing seam is noticeable on the edges.

Amsterdam, Holland

In the waters of the port of this amazing and mysterious city, there is a green ship - a building of a rather strange shape. Its main technological feature is the use of artificially aged copper.

copper roofing, zinc-titanium and aluminum

This is a metal roof. The connections of the elements of the roof (pictures) in it are performed using folds. A picture for a folded roof is an element, the edges of which are specially prepared for connection with each other.

Seam roofing is made of rolled or sheet galvanized steel with polymer coatings (polyester, pural, plastisol) or without (galvanization), as well as non-ferrous metals (copper roofing, zinc-titanium and aluminum). Copper roofing has become widespread among non-ferrous metal seam roofs. Copper roofing is one of the most reliable and durable. The service life of a copper roof is more than a hundred years, subject to the recommendations for the installation of the roof and properly performed roofing work. Roofs made of titanium-zinc and aluminum are less common, but are also gaining more and more popularity.

Seam (seam connection or lock) is the type of seam that is formed when joining seam roof pictures. The fold is standing (c, d) and recumbent (a, b), as well as single (a, c) and double (b, d). Usually the side (vertical) edges of the paintings are connected with a standing seam, and the horizontal parts are recumbent. The roofing panel (picture) can be of almost any length, thanks to which the use of recumbent seams and transverse overlaps can be completely eliminated. The folds are fixed into the lock (rolled up) manually with special tools or with the help of special electromechanical seaming tools (folding equipment). Single standing seam can be self-latching. The most hermetic and moisture-proof connection of paintings is a double standing fold (Fig. D), since its edges have a double bend.

One of the new technologies in the installation of seam roofs is snap seam. His distinctive feature is a unique mounting system. Roofing can be installed both on the crate and on the insulation. Using a latch allows you to significantly save installation time and does not require a special folding tool.

Benefits of seam roofing:

  • Seam connection provides complete protection of the roof from leaks.
  • The absence of external visible holes for fastening the panels eliminates the formation of leaks during sudden changes in temperature.
  • Light weight eliminates the need for reinforcement work truss system roofs.
  • The use of galvanized steel with polymer coatings or non-ferrous metals ensures a long service life of the roof.
  • It can be used for roofs with a complex configuration.
  • A variety of metals and types of coatings allow you to build seam roofing in various colors.

The disadvantages of seam roofing include:

  • High thermal conductivity of the metal (good roof insulation and proper installation are required) roofing cake).
  • Installation of seam roofing should be carried out by highly qualified roofing specialists and using special tools.
  • Good sound insulation is necessary, because during rainfall it can be noisy under the roof.
  • It can accumulate a static charge and there is a possibility of lightning hitting the roof, so it is desirable to equip it with grounding and a lightning protection system.
  • A snow retention device is necessary, since there is a danger of snow avalanche.

Seam roof prices

Our company offers to buy a folded roof made of galvanized steel with various polymer coatings (polyester, pural, plastisol). Price square meter from 250 to 450 rubles/m2 (the price depends on the thickness of the steel sheet and the type of polymer coating). Production of roofing paintings: from 55 rubles / m2.

Seam roof installation

Seam roofing is arranged on a pitched roof with a slope of more than 10 ° on a solid base or on a sparse crate. It is necessary to avoid deflection of the panels, this can lead to deformation of the seam connection between the metal sheets. A solid base must be made in the area of cornice overhangs, junctions, gutters and other complex roofing units.

Pictures are fastened to the crate with clamps (narrow steel strips). The clamp is attached to the crate at one end, and the other end is wound into a standing seam when bent. Thanks to this technology of fastening panels, there is no visible external fasteners and additional overhead elements, which ensures complete tightness of the roof. Roofing work on seam roofing should be carried out by experienced and certified roofers.

It is recommended to lift one sheet at a time to the place of installation or to install a seam-rolling machine directly at the place of roofing work.
It is recommended to use sheets with a length that is equal to the length of the roof slope, thus it is possible to avoid the use of horizontal lying seam joints.
It is advisable to use sheets up to 10 meters long. For sheets longer than 10m, floating clamps must be used and special installation rules must be followed.
To bend the folds, it is necessary to use special manual seaming tools or automatic seaming equipment.

This includes sheets of steel, copper, aluminum, various alloys.

A separate type are metal seam roofs. They are named so because of the way the elements are connected. roofing material: sheets in the longitudinal and transverse directions are connected by folds.

Seam roofs can cover not only flat slopes, but also curved roofs.

Roofs made of galvanized steel

The simplest type of seam roofing is galvanized steel roofing. There are many different reasons for this:

  • a large range of slopes, but not less than 12 °;
  • high waterproofing properties even with small slopes;
  • withstands wind and snow loads;
  • allows you to overlap the roof of any shape, including a curved surface (but not a domed one); therefore, in many other roofs, for example, tiled, valleys are made of roofing steel;
  • easy to mount;
  • small mass;
  • affordable price.

But, of course, there are also disadvantages:

  • a galvanized steel roof must be periodically painted to protect it from corrosion; it will incur operating costs;
  • roofs are echoing, i.e. “let through” the sound of rain, the “stomping” of birds;
  • in hot weather they heat up so that it is uncomfortable to be under the roof; therefore, when arranging an exploitable attic space, it is necessary to take constructive measures for a comfortable living here.

Sheet dimensions are 1420x710 mm, sheet thickness is 0.4...0.6 mm.

The types of folds through which the sheets are connected depend on the slopes and the position of the folds relative to the sides of the sheet:

  • transverse fold (lying) - this is a simple (ordinary) horizontal fold, used for slopes of 25 °; transverse folds are bent across the sheet, i.e. on its short side, they do not interfere with the flow of water along the slope;
  • transverse fold with additional fold (double) - with slopes from 10°; double fold is also used in valleys and similar difficult sections of the roof for greater reliability against leaks;
  • longitudinal (standing, standing) vertical fold is located along the long side of the sheet; this seam is made using a clamp - a narrow strip of the same roofing steel, which is nailed to the lathing bar at one end, and the second end is passed into the rebate; roofing sheets are tucked in as shown in the figure);
  • longitudinal double fold - a more reliable connection, like a double lying fold.

The device of folded roofs made of galvanized steel: a - transverse, recumbent fold; b - double recumbent fold; in - longitudinal, standing fold; g - double standing fold; e - type of mounted steel roof; e - crutch; g - stuffing the crutch on the crate; h - section of the roof; and - clamp; 1 - galvanized steel sheet; 2 - board 50x150 mm flat with solid flooring or with a step of 1400 mm; 3 - recumbent fold; 4 - double recumbent fold; 5 - standing fold; 6 - double standing fold; 7- rafter; 8- crate - bars with a section of 50x50 mm, pitch 250 ... 300 mm; gutter picture; 10 - hooks, pitch 700 mm; 11 - gutter for water drainage; 12 - picture of the roof overhang; 13 - crutch, offset 100 ... 120 mm, step 700 mm; 14 - funnel; 75 - tray; 16 - ridge board; 17- clamp.

The connection of sheets with the help of folds is remarkable in that no holes for fasteners (for example, nails) are required; therefore, there are no conditions for possible leakage through such openings.

For convenience, sheets are often prepared on the ground, connecting them with recumbent folds and drawn edges to form standing folds - these are the so-called paintings.

The sheathing under the seam roofs on the overhangs is made solid to prevent the roof from being blown off by the wind. Also, a continuous crate is laid in the valleys, near the skates and similar sections of the roof.

You should know it. To stiffen the roof, as mentioned many times, each board of the batten is always nailed to the rafters with two nails hammered along its edges.

The installation of the roof is as follows. From a continuous crate on an overhang at a distance equal to the length of the sheet (1400 mm), boards with a section of 50x150 mm are nailed flat to the rafters. On these boards, the sheets are connected in a recumbent fold. If a pre-assembled picture is mounted, then, of course, these boards should be located under the recumbent folds.

To prevent the sheet from bending, bars with a section of 50x50 mm are stuffed under it with a step of 250 ... 300 mm. A clamp is nailed to the same bars, through which a standing fold is formed.

The roof overhang is formed using a T-shaped steel element - a crutch. It is nailed to the crate with a step of about 700 mm and an offset of 100 mm from the crate.

The figure shows a cross-section of a roof, representing a complete picture of the construction of a galvanized steel roof.

When arranging an organized drain, it is necessary to direct rainwater in the right direction. Such a channel is a drainpipe. But before water enters the pipe, it must be collected from the roof in an organized manner. In steel roofs, this is done like this.

A second strip of roofing sheets is laid on a strip mounted on an overhang with a dropper, the edge of which is bent. This is a wall mounted gutter; it is fastened to the roof with the help of metal hooks made of flat steel. The slope of the gutter to the downpipe is created by gradually reducing the distance of the gutter attachment from the roof edge; it is clear that in the place where the water drains into the funnel, the distance is the smallest. Then the gutter is formed into a tray, through which water is directed to the drain funnel. This method of hand-made gutters can be called artisanal. However, we considered it necessary to talk about this method, since it has the right to life, if for some reason it is not possible to purchase factory components for the drainage system. In addition, when repairing old existing roofs, this method is used.

The modern construction market has a wide range of various components of the gutter system, the line of which includes all the elements of the catchment and weir, which greatly simplifies the organization of the drain and gives the eaves of the roof a beautiful look.

Today manufacturers use different kinds polymers, here are some of them:

  • polyester;
  • plastisol - resistant to mechanical stress;
  • pural (PURAL).

Sheets made in this way are not only more protected from corrosion, but also have other worthy qualities:

  • in terms of plasticity, they approach copper: they do not tear, allowing you to perform complex elements of the roof;
  • the roof becomes silent;
  • the seams are tighter both in manual and machine folding, i.е. reverse bending (opening of the seam) does not occur.

A modern type of fold is self-latching, allowing you to connect sheets without a special tool.

In some parts of the roof, seam roofs can be without transverse seams, the joints of the sheets are overlapped. This is an example of the least reliable metal roofing components.

Aluminum roofs

Modern roofing aluminum has high strength, is not subject to corrosion, light weight facilitates the delivery and installation of sheets. The factory warranty is 40 years. Sheets can be smooth or corrugated; stoving color varnish allows you to get 17 colors. Like other seam roofs, aluminum roofing allows you to cover roofs of various shapes.

Aluminum sheets have dimensions of 600x420 mm. Sheet thickness 0.65 mm. Recommended for roof slopes of at least 12...13°. Sheets can also be mounted on sloping roofs - from 3°.

The crate for the sheets is prepared solid (a board with a section of more than 24 mm) or sparse (bars with a section of 50x30 mm). The sheets are fastened to the crate with two aluminum clamps per sheet.

Installation of roofing aluminum is carried out on a roofing film, which has many tasks: it protects the aluminum sheet from the harmful effects of alkalis contained in atmospheric moisture if it can get under the roof, ensures the sheet slides when its dimensions change as a result of temperature deformations, prevents condensate from entering the crate , improves the sound insulation of the roof. The connection of sheets and the composition of the elements of the roof structure are similar to those in a steel roof.

Copper roofs

Copper is one of the most beautiful roofing materials. With its beauty and magnificence, the copper roof leaves no one indifferent.

The durability of copper in practice is expressed in its resistance to atmospheric factors - rain, snow, wind. And as a result, copper roofing roof maintenance costs are the lowest. The money invested in the roof pays off after 30 years.

In addition to durability and beauty, copper roofing has a number of other advantages:

  • environmentally friendly material; moreover, it is a material with antibacterial properties;
  • a large range of slopes covered with copper roofing - from 12...90° (i.e. it can be used for facade cladding);
  • flexible plastic material that can be given any shape;
  • fireproof;
  • has a small mass - about 5.3 kg / m 2 and, therefore, does not require reinforcement of the truss structure, as happens with a tiled roof.

It is interesting. The antibacterial nature of copper confirms the following fact. British scientists have proven that the number of microbes on copper objects is 95% lower than on objects made of other materials. Of course, microbes are not so terrible for the roof, but still it speaks of the properties of copper.

If you do not like natural copper, then you can cover the roof with copper alloys.

Probably, the copper roof has only one drawback: it requires significant one-time investments in the installation of such a roof - this is the most expensive type of roof.

Copper roofing material is produced by many countries, including, of course, Russia. Russian factories produce sheets with a width of 333, 600 and 670 mm in rolls - up to 11 m long or measured sheets with a length of 1.5 and 2 m.

Roofing, mounted from sheets, as well as rolled, refers to folded roofs. Therefore, the installation of copper roofing has a lot in common with steel and aluminum seam roofing.

The sheathing for a copper roof is prepared with a solid flooring of boards or waterproof plywood, and oriented strand board (OSB) is also suitable. An underlying layer of waterproofing rolled materials is laid on the crate. Strips of these materials are rolled out parallel to the ridge, the strips are nailed.

The installation of the roof begins with rolling the sheet across the entire width of the slope, which is sewn with the next sheet with a double fold. The fold is rarely made by hand. Clamps need to be taken copper, cut from scraps of sheets.

Pictures of valleys (let us recall their other name - grooves) are formed by single recumbent folds.

To drain water from the slopes, a conventional drainage system is used - an integral part of the entire roof structure. Brackets are attached to the crate in the area of the eaves (depressions of about 5 mm are made under them), on which the gutters will then be attached. Then, after installing the brackets, cornice overhangs made of copper sheet are attached to the end of the flooring with nails. Water from the slopes falls into the gutters, from which - into the drains. Elements of the drainage system, including gutters and drains, as well as their fastenings, must be made of copper. All components are available from manufacturers of copper roofs.

A copper gutter system isn't just for copper roofs; it harmonizes perfectly with ceramic tiles, wooden and slate roofing.

In insulated and non-insulated roofs, a mandatory natural ventilation with inlet and outlet openings.

Zinc-titanium roofs

Let's give another example of a seam roof - zinc-titanium.

The basis of the zinc-titanium alloy is zinc with small additions of titanium and copper. Different colors and shades can also be obtained by special surface treatment. The advantages of this material can be written:

  • service life of more than 100 years;
  • does not require special maintenance during operation, such as painting;
  • ease of installation;
  • the possibility of covering curved shapes.

Installation of a zinc-titanium roof is carried out by the same methods as all seam roofs.

It is interesting. In Moscow, zinc-titanium roofing can be seen on the building of the State Historical Museum and the Balchug Hotel.

The device of the warmed (combined) roof. Ventilation of the under-roof space

What will be told here is suitable not only for seam roofs, but also for any other. The essence of the matter in roof insulation was set out in the section of roof structures; For better assimilation of the material, we will repeat the main ideas.

The construction of the roof over the cold attic consists only of layers: the lathing, the underlying layer and the actual roofing. In an insulated combined roof, a layer of insulation is laid between the rafters. The insulation must be protected from the side of the warm room by a layer of vapor barrier.

In general, the roof must also be protected from the side of the street: a layer with low air permeability is needed here. However, folded roofs are a fairly hermetic carpet through which wind flows do not penetrate. Therefore, in seam roofs, this layer can be excluded. In all other roofs, both sheet and small-piece, laying the anti-wind layer is not in vain work and not unnecessary expenses.

Ventilation in different types roofing is achieved in different ways. The plank sheathing does not interfere with the movement of air: the uneven surface of the boards and the gaps between them do not allow the roofing material to fit tightly to it.

However, in recent times the method of installation of seam roofs is used not on a plank sheathing, but on waterproof plywood. It should be warned that if the seam roof lies tightly on the plywood crate, then there will be no air movement, and, as a result, the plywood will rot and the metal will corrode.
