When buying an apartment or a house, homeowners want not only to install plumbing, but to make the bathroom attractive. Often they put original tiles on the floor or walls, buy plumbing fixtures of an interesting shape. You can make your own bath screen or buy it ready-made for an acrylic or ceramic model, sliding or static, in different sizes and shapes, patterned or plain.

What is a bath screen

When a person enters the bathroom, he immediately pays attention to the places under the bathtub and the sink. To hide the bottom, protruding pipes and other elements, people install screens. The designs are frames attached to the bath, and panels with any image or plain. This element can be smooth, textured, made of different materials, homemade or purchased.

Installing a screen under the bath

Screens differ in their form, material, and functionality. However, the installation will consist of approximately the same steps:

  1. Measure the niche under the bath.
  2. Mark the places where the frame will be attached to the bath.
  3. Fasten the frame according to the instructions, check the corner connection. For sliding options, a profile in the form of Ш is attached.
  4. Adjust legs. For reliability and tighter fixation, sealant can be applied under them.
  5. Fill the space between the frame and the edge of the tub with mounting foam.
  6. Install the panels into the fixed frame.
  7. Panel joints must be treated with sealant.

If buying acrylic bath, then in the kit you can get a screen that is suitable in shape and size. It is made of plastic and comes with a frame from production. If not in the kit, then you can buy a finished design separately or make it yourself. Advantages of a deaf, solid option:

  • aesthetics;
  • strength;
  • durability.

There is only one drawback: if a breakdown occurs in the plumbing, it will be inconvenient to repair. Screens with doors and sliding models win in this. Benefits of designs with hinged doors:

  • easy to open and close;
  • quick access to communications;
  • can be equipped under the bathroom shelves for storage.

Disadvantages:

  • not suitable if the bathroom is small;
  • short-lived, doors quickly fail;
  • aesthetically not very attractive, because there are many gaps.

Advantages of sliding models:

  • convenient to use the door-panels;
  • take up little space when opened;
  • easy and quick access to communications;
  • You can store different items.

Disadvantages:

  • guides quickly become unusable;
  • metal guides are expensive;
  • plastic guides break quickly.

In different regions, for example, in St. Petersburg, Sochi or Krasnodar, the cost of bath screens is different. In Moscow, approximate prices are as follows:

  1. Santa MDF 1.7 (sliding) - 3200 rubles.
  2. Bellezza L1800 (sliding) - 3547 rubles.
  3. Vod-ok Olympus 180 (swing) - 3240 rubles.
  4. Soft Alavann 150 (folding) - 6960 rubles.
  5. End Estet Laura 700 (deaf) - 4600 rubles.

How to choose a bath screen

To choose a bath screen, you need to decide for yourself what is important: aesthetics, ease of access to communications, the ability to use space for storage or price. Based on the criteria, you can choose the appropriate model. Now there are a lot of options both in decor and in material. You can choose a ready-made size or order according to your own, individual dimensions.

Sliding bath screen

To save space under the bathroom and be able to hide something there, you can buy a screen with sliding doors. A great modern stylish solution would be the following sample:

  • name: Monaco coupe;
  • price: 3510 rubles;
  • characteristics: width - 167 cm; depth - 5 cm; height - 53.5 cm; body material - laminated MDF board;
  • pluses: 3 sliding doors; comfortable, overhead handles; door mechanism - on rails;
  • cons: the style is not suitable for any interior.

Some people adhere to a style called minimalism in the interior. To match it, you need a screen without any additional decorations, the following simple option will do:

  • name: Vod-ok;
  • price: 3020 rubles;
  • characteristics: width - 147 cm; depth - 13 cm; height - 54 cm; case material – moisture resistant laminated chipboard; facade material - moisture resistant MDF;
  • pluses: you can store any things; free access to communications;
  • cons: small handles.

Coupe screens are very popular due to their compactness, in which the panels are moved to the side. Another representative with sliding doors is the design from Alavann:

  • name: Alavann Coupe Still;
  • price: 3650 rubles;
  • characteristics: white color, width - 160 cm; aluminum frame;
  • pluses: strong, durable frame; protective moisture-resistant facade material;
  • cons: doors are noticeable, which in some interiors will look ugly.

Bathroom screen with shelves

When installing a screen, many people tend to use the space under the bathroom to store various household items. For greater convenience, there are models with already made shelves and niches:

  • name: Wannbock Light;
  • price: 800 rubles;
  • characteristics: color - white; width: 150 or 170 cm; material - polystyrene;
  • pluses: stylish design; affordable price; ease of use;
  • cons: fragility of the material.

There are options for screens that are massive and heavy, which makes it difficult to install them. However, there are also models that are very light and compact:

  • name: Ultralight;
  • price: 597 rubles;
  • characteristics: width - 167 cm; White color; material - PVC profile and cellular polypropylene;
  • pluses: affordable price; convenience; ease of installation; shelves of different heights;
  • cons: impracticality, fragility.

White color is universal and suitable for any interior, and in the bathroom it is often the main one. However, often people want to diversify the room, add colors to it. To make the bathroom bright and creative, you can buy a screen model with a picture or the ability to translate it into a panel:

  • name: Premium A;
  • price: 1177 rubles;
  • characteristics: width - 168 cm; polymer-coated aluminum frame; panels - PVC with a decal;
  • pluses: the frame is covered with an anti-corrosion agent; waterproof PVC panel, decal;
  • cons: hinged doors, not suitable for a small bathroom.

Acrylic bath screen

Acrylic bath often comes with a screen for it. If you didn't have it when you bought it, you can buy it separately. Pure white design is neat and attractive:

  • name: Fleece Runo;
  • price: 3440 rubles;
  • characteristics: width - 150 cm; depth - 13.7 cm; height: 50.5 cm, color - white; case material – moisture resistant laminated chipboard; facade material - moisture resistant MDF;
  • pluses: facade without a pattern, suitable for any interior; three hinged doors;
  • cons: small handles; hinged doors, can not be installed in a small room.

If the bathroom is large, you can install a whole closet in it for all kinds of detergents and sponges, there is no need to use the space under the bath. In this case, you can buy a blank screen, for example, the following option:

  • name: Canyon II;
  • price: 5520 rubles;
  • characteristics: color - white, width - 150 and 160 cm; frontal; material - ABS plastic;
  • pluses: hides communications; aesthetics of the room;
  • cons: access to communications is difficult.

The advantage of a blank solid screen is its visual appeal. The winning option for an acrylic bathtub is as follows:

  • name: Aquaria;
  • price: 5520 rubles;
  • characteristics: width: 140, 150, 160, 170 cm; White color; material - ABS plastic; frontal;
  • pluses: hides communications under the bathroom; gives aesthetics;
  • cons: it is deaf, no storage space.

A bulky bathtub with many pipes looks disharmonious, so it needs to be disguised. In order to improve the look of the bathroom, a special screen of a suitable color is installed to cover the water and drain pipes, siphon, and plumbing fixtures.

What it is?

A bathtub screen is a solid or sliding panel installed on the side of the bathtub along its entire length and height, hiding the unaesthetic appearance of the bathtub's external coating, pipes and adjacent units. The standard length of the screen is from 150 cm to 170 cm, height - from 50 to 70 cm. These parameters vary depending on the type, shape and dimensions of the bath. The demand for screens under the bath is explained by their many advantages:

  • simple installation (the design is easy to install with your own hands);
  • strength and durability;
  • relatively low costs for the acquisition, manufacture, installation;
  • a 100% achievable result in improving the aesthetics of the bathroom.

The product can be bought, ordered from the master, or you can make a screen for the bathroom with your own hands.

Why do you need to close the bath

A variety of finishing materials and technologies allows you to create a beautiful and functional room from the bathroom. The screen under the bathtub is designed to organically fit the tank with communications (supply and drain of water) into the interior.

When making a screen for a bath with your own hands, it is better to immediately provide additional shelves and drawers for storing household items, hygiene items or cleaning tools in it - decorative panel takes on a practical purpose. In addition, the screen under the bath has another function - a closed or sliding screen prevents water from entering hard-to-reach places under the bath.

There are three main functions of the screen under the bath:

  • decorative - decorates the bathroom;
  • practical - provides a place to store household items;
  • protective - does not allow water to get under the bath, dust accumulates there, dirt forms.

Screen types

Bath screens are divided into two categories:

  • stationary - capital closed walls from the edge of the bath down, often tiled (a photo of the bath with a capital screen is presented below);
  • mobile screens - attached panels that are easy to remove and carry, most often these are sliding models made of plastic. Photo: mobile sliding screen under the bath.

According to their appearance, they are classified as follows:

  • closed screens (solid) - represent one fixed canvas;
  • open (these include sliding screens under the bath), consisting of two or more moving parts.

Bath screens differ in the material from which they are made:

  • from MDF panels;
  • from chipboard;
  • ceramic tile screens;
  • plastic;
  • drywall;
  • closed screens made of brick or tongue-and-groove blocks.

Model samples are shown in the photo. Closed plasterboard, tongue-and-groove screens or brick screens are most often tiled. The best solution would be to provide them with a removable, opening or sliding inspection hatch, and the best view bath screen tiles are considered to be the ones used for bathroom wall decor. Panels made of MDF, chipboard, plastic and ceramics are used as an independent coating and do not need additional cladding.

Necessary materials and tools

You can make a screen for a bath with your own hands from any type of material available, the technology for manufacturing and installing screens for a bath differs slightly. First, a metal or wooden frame is installed, then it is paneled, and the process ends with finishing the frame closed with panels.

It is better to use plastic and ceramic tiles for decoration. They do not corrode and resist moisture well. The screen frame is most often sheathed with waterproof drywall, and for load-bearing elements it is better to use a metal profile.

You can make a screen for a bath with your own hands using the following materials:

  • for cladding, moisture-resistant gypsum board, MDF or chipboard, plastic solid panels or lining are chosen - it is better to use the type of material with which you have experience with your own hands;
  • two pieces of a guide metal profile 60 cm wide and 150 to 170 cm long;
  • bearing profile of the same width for forming frame stiffeners;
  • self-tapping screws for metal 3.5 * 16 mm for connecting elements of a metal profile, 3.5 * 25 mm for mounting drywall to the profile;
  • driven dowels for attaching metal profiles to the wall;
  • "liquid nails" or better silicone sealant;
  • for lining the screen under the bath you will need tiles and tile adhesive;
  • mounting foam;
  • for hanging on the design of MDF doors, furniture hinges are needed.

To install the screen under the bath with your own hands, you will need tools:

  • level, tape measure, metal ruler, pencil;
  • screwdriver;
  • jigsaw, hacksaw for metal;
  • construction knife;
  • sealant gun.

Do-it-yourself drywall screen

Drywall sheathing technology is somewhat different from the process of working with MDF, chipboard or plastic. Making a do-it-yourself bath screen with drywall sheathing is easy - this is one of the best, easy to process and available on modern market materials.

To install the screen in the bathroom, it is better to choose a special moisture-resistant type of drywall - it is impregnated with antiseptics that prevent the development of microorganisms in conditions high humidity. The price for it is somewhat higher, but only this sample is suitable for a bath screen, although it is also afraid of direct water ingress and must be well sealed after installation to avoid destruction.

Drywall screen can be open, provided inspection hatch, or closed. A closed screen for a bath is done as follows: after marking the location of the screen and installing a metal frame, it is sheathed with drywall:

  • once again make measurements of the frame from the profiles;
  • mark with a pencil or marker on one of the sides of the GKL (both are identical, choose any) the parts necessary for sheathing;
  • cut drywall according to the markup. This can be done with an ordinary carpenter's knife, attaching a metal ruler to the line: cut through the top cardboard, break it, cut the bottom one along the fold;
  • make sheathing of metal frame profiles with drywall parts using a screwdriver and galvanized self-tapping screws;
  • putty hats of self-tapping screws and seams, seal joints;
  • after drying, the screen under the bathtub is tiled.

Options for finishing the screen under the bath tiles can be seen in the photo.

DIY bath screen

Making and installing a screen for a bathtub with your own hands is carried out in several steps, all work can be done over the weekend by watching the video of the process of installing a screen for a bathtub by masters. A sliding plastic screen will require less effort and time to install than other types.

Step 1. Bath measurement and screen location marking. Height measurements are taken at least at three points, since the bath is always installed at an angle - to facilitate the flow of water into the hole.

When measuring the length of the bath, it should be remembered that the upper guide profile of the screen is made from one element 150 cm or 170 cm long, and the lower one will most often be made up of three or more parts, since it is more convenient to make the screen with a recess deep into the bath. The dimensions of the protrusion are determined: they indicate the distance from the wall to the left corner of the recess, then its length and the distance from the right corner to the wall.

Marking the location of the screen on the floor is never done flush with the edge of the bath, you should always take into account that a layer of glue and tiles will still be applied to the surface. Also take into account the thickness of the material itself (drywall, chipboard or MDF). Having made a projection of the edge of the bath onto the floor, they retreat 3–5 cm deep and draw a line from one wall to another - the elements of the lower metal profile will be located on it and the depth of the protrusion of the screen under the bath is measured from it. A more accurate idea of the order of work will give watching the video.

Step 2 Do-it-yourself installation of a metal frame. According to the markup, pre-cut metal profile elements are installed in accordance with the dimensions - guides and stiffeners. If there is no cutter, then they are connected to each other with small self-tapping screws. The metal profile mounting options are as follows:

  • to the wall - driven dowels with self-tapping screws;
  • to the surface of the bath - with liquid nails or on mounting foam;
  • on ceramic tiles on the wall and on the floor - silicone sealant(because they often make underfloor heating in bathrooms and mounting on self-tapping screws is impossible).

The process of installing the frame is shown in the video.

For a screen under an MDF bath, instead of a metal frame, you can install a wooden one, and in one of its sectors make one or more MDF doors for access to communications. What such a bath with a screen with MDF doors looks like can be seen in the photo.

Step 3 Sheathing of the frame of the screen under the bath. Work at this stage depends on the material that is intended to sheathe the metal frame: drywall, chipboard, plastic, MDF panels or tiles. Sometimes thick ceramic tiles are not sewn onto drywall, but are attached directly to the frame. You can get an idea of how to make a tile bath screen by looking at a photo or video.

The process of sheathing the bath with your own hands with drywall, MDF panels or chipboard is the same and described above: the sheets are attached to the frame with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver. Screens made of MDF and laminated chipboard are not tiled - their decorative moisture-resistant coating is an adornment. Installation of plastic products is done a little differently.

plastic screen

The peculiarity of plastic is that it is a very light and bending material. A plastic bathroom screen does not require reinforced fastening - two long rails at the top and bottom are enough to mount the panels. Instead of metal profiles, wooden planks can be used for these purposes, having previously treated them with antiseptics. There are two types of plastic bath screens:

  • from whole sheets-curtains forming a sliding screen;
  • from plastic lining panels - a closed-view screen.

The photo shows examples of decorating a bath with screens of this type: a sliding screen with moving doors and a solid wall panel.

The sequence of making a screen for a bathtub from plastic (PVC) closed-type panels with your own hands:

  1. Top and bottom guides are installed to which the starting profile is attached.
  2. The number of plastic panels of the required length necessary for covering the screen is calculated and cut - in height from the edge of the bath to the floor. It is important not to forget that in different places the height of the bath may vary.
  3. PVC panels are inserted vertically one after the other into the grooves of the starting profile, fixed with self-tapping screws or small nails.

Vertically arranged plastic panels do not retain water, they form an even closed row, they are easy to clean and, if necessary, they can be simply dismantled. This is the best way for the price and the easiest type of screen for a bathtub to install with your own hands.

Sliding bath screen

One of the most common models sold on the market is a sliding bath screen. How different samples of sliding structures look like can be seen in the photo. The sliding screen under the bathtub consists of two or more plastic curtain-panels moving along the guide groove, opening and hiding the space behind them. The sliding screen is practical:

  • installing it under the bath does not cause difficulties;
  • sliding curtains provide access to plumbing communications at any time;
  • if desired, a sliding screen is easy to do with your own hands.

It is better to use lightweight plastic sliding screens in the bathrooms of the old stock, where you need to provide frequent access to communications for repairs.

The disadvantages of a sliding screen for a plastic bath include its ordinary, devoid of grace appearance and not the best strength qualities.

  1. Before you make a screen under the bath with your own hands, it is recommended to repair all communications in the bathroom, carry out preventive work - after installing a closed stationary screen, this will be impossible without its complete or partial destruction.
  2. When using wooden bars for the manufacture of the frame, before installing them under the bath, they must be treated with antiseptics and impregnations that give the wood moisture resistance.
  3. Before installing the screen under the bath, clean the space, which will subsequently be closed, by treating the surface with antifungal solutions.
  4. When using MDF and chipboard in the bathroom, it should be remembered that these materials are destroyed by water, require sealing joints and a waterproof coating.
  5. One of the simplest and most budgetary models for installation in the bathroom is a plastic sliding screen, if you don’t want to make the design yourself, you can buy such a screen inexpensively.

Choosing a bath screen

Screen design

These structures are also different. Products of standard length are produced: 1.5 or 1.7 meters. The height indicator is in the range of 560, 550, 506 millimeters. The product has special legs that allow you to adjust this characteristic.

  1. End screens - cover the corresponding part in the bathroom.
  2. Varieties where there are no end frames.
  3. Universal models. Plastic panels are enclosed in an aluminum frame. The length of the frame itself can be reduced if customers have such a desire. Thanks to this, more easy installation do-it-yourself structures become lighter where sewer pipes pass.
  4. Normal view. Plastic panels are enclosed inside the frame, the performers try to adhere to certain sizes.

About MDF structures

Most often, modern buyers make a choice in favor of plastic, but this does not mean that the choice is only limited to them. One of the most common materials is MDF board, which can resist even moisture in large quantities.

The material, at its core, is a type of fiberboard with average density. It is created using pressing technology, when high temperature and pressure are maintained.

Compared to plastic, these models are more expensive. But on the other hand, the appearance can also be called more massive, impressive. It is best to choose the color and material so that they match the decor that is already present in the room.

Screens made of plastic and MDF are not moved apart by the same mechanisms. MDF products simply open inward, which is very reminiscent of ordinary furniture facades.

Differs in MDF and higher resistance to mechanical loads.

We install a screen made of wood - expensive and fashionable

What sizes are the designs available in?

  • 540 mm high, 1700 mm long
  • 540+ 1600 mm
  • 540+ 1500 millimeters.

All models have legs, thanks to which the height can be adjusted up to 620 mm.

Several color options are also available.

  • Vanilla
  • Olive
  • White
  • wenge

And these are just a few options for modern buyers.

Is it worth taking an acrylic screen?

These are models that are only suitable for rooms decorated in a certain style, having a certain appearance.

Such products are most often produced immediately complete with the bathrooms themselves.

For each model, a truly unique jewelry is developed that has a certain set of characteristics.

How can you do everything yourself?

From the very beginning, we need to understand the requirements that any sliding bath screen must meet.

  1. There should not be any support on this part near the bath itself. The product cannot play the role of a supporting structure.
  2. Near the screen, you will definitely need to take care of high-quality floor sealing.
  3. There must be a technical opening that allows, if necessary, access to all communications. To hide this part, it is allowed to use small doors or plugs.

We buy an acrylic screen complete with a bathtub

Working with brick

It is necessary to lay it between the walls where the bath itself is located. The main thing is to withstand the thickness, it should be equal to half the brick. It is by this value that it is necessary to shift all subsequent rows. It remains only to change everything depending on the specified parameters.

It is important to make a special window where the drain will take place. In the future, just a small door is attached there. The bath should not be leaned even on brick screens, this is one of the most important rules. Between the last row of bricks and the bathroom itself, you will need to create a small gap. Usually it is no more than 1-2 millimeters, then it is covered with mounting foam. After that, the brickwork is sheathed.

What about drywall?

One of the best decisions. A timber beam or a metal profile is perfect for forming the main frame. True, if the choice is made specifically in favor of wood, it will be necessary to process the material with the help of soil. Otherwise, it will not be possible to completely protect yourself from mold and rot.

The frame requires a small recess, this should be taken into account separately when creating it with your own hands. The face material will then be on top of the skin. As for the thickness, it should be the same as that of this future skin. By this amount, it is necessary to deepen the entire structure later. Correction will help to carry out a plumb line.

We mount the drywall screen

What other work can be done?

The UD profile is fixed along the outlined line. To prevent water from getting under the bath, it is necessary to process the lower part of the structure with a sealant.

CD - profile, which in any case must maintain a vertical position. Fastening takes place on the base profile. Between them you need to leave a certain distance, not less than 600 millimeters. Where the technological hole will be located, it is worth installing additional racks. It is better to provide a protrusion for the legs in the center.

The installation of the profile is carried out in the form of the letter P. It must be deepened under the bath, only 10 centimeters.

A moisture-resistant variety of drywall is best suited for finishing screen sheathing. The main thing is to observe the width and height of the structure, make a small margin of 2 cm.

Self-tapping screws are used when fastening along the perimeter and in the center of the profile, while it is important to observe a step of 15 cm. It is important to monitor the self-tapping screws, if handled carelessly, they can damage the bath. It is recommended to retreat 1 cm from the edge and the floor, then the drywall will not swell. This material is water resistant, but constant contact with moisture can be dangerous for him.

Tiles and foils can be used to prime the finished surface. This is one of the last stages of work. Suitable and decorative plaster, many prefer washing wallpaper.

Are there other options available?

Working with drywall partitions is very similar to what can and should be done with OSB, MDF. The only difference is that in the latter case, an additional window is needed inside the screen, which will be responsible for ventilation. The main thing is that it should be located on the opposite side from the place where the technical hole will be located.

Length - within 5-10 centimeters, width - about 2-3. A plastic grill will help cover everything. On both sides it is necessary to cover the MDF sheets with a primer. And this must be done before the final fixing on the frame.

What features of the installation should you be aware of?

The screen fixture is easily mounted directly on the sides of the bath if it is acrylic. But this is unacceptable if you need to do everything under a cast iron bath. Otherwise, the enamel surface will deteriorate.

The complexity of installation usually depends on how complex the screen itself has. Installation of a guide profile in the shape of the letter Ш is a mandatory requirement if a product with sliding doors is selected. After that, you need to cut out the details, which will be the doors in the future. One door must be larger than the other. Only after that they are installed in the guide profile.

Screen holder under cast iron bath DO NOT mount on the sides of the bath itself

What about drywall construction?

The first step is to assemble a frame that matches the dimensions we need. You can not do without wooden bars 40 by 40 millimeters, screws and metal corners.

  1. Markup is the first important step. A plumb line is used to apply the required number of points to the surface. Then they are connected in single lines, usually going to the floor from the corners of the bath. There should be two such lines.
  2. It is necessary to retreat 2.5 cm from each of the drawn lines. And draw one more parallel to the previous ones. But they will move inside the bath. Points for drawing lines on the floor are marked in much the same way as they are used. We get 4 lines.
  3. The plumb line must be applied to the outer corner of the bath, which is not adjacent to them. After that, another point is placed on the floor. This is the top of a square whose side is 2.5 centimeters. It is turned inside the bath.
  4. Several lines will need to be drawn from the corner of the square facing the bath. They are connected to those lines that were described in paragraph two.
  • For the vertical sides of the square, you will need four of them. The length will be equal to the distance from the floor to the lower edge of the side of the bath.
  • On the shorter side of the bathtub, two are needed for the frame.
  • Finally, on one long side, you will need two parts.
  • Several rails in the vertical plane will be needed if the bath has a large length.

After that, finally, you can go to the framework itself.

  1. Four short bars need to be interconnected using metal corners. Do-it-yourself screws are required for fastening. Between the vertical rails it will be necessary to place parts with a horizontal position. The reverse order of actions is not allowed.
  2. You need to drill two holes in the rail that is attached to the wall
  3. The frame should be on the wall, on the small side of the tub. Depending on the material from which the frame is made, select the appropriate fasteners.
  4. The long frame is mounted in the same way. It is attached to the second wall.
  5. If additional vertical slats were prepared from the very beginning, then first they are attached to the frame, and then you can go further.
  6. To connect both structures, screws will be needed. The fabrication of the frame can be considered complete.

Installation of a curved frame

The general principle is about the same as described above. But it is not without its nuances.

  • Profiles for drywall - the basis for the manufacture of the frame; first you need to make cuts, only then give the necessary shape;
  • There should be 2 such curvilinear profiles in total. They are fixed using ordinary self-tapping screws. Next, you can go to the vertical slats, they will strengthen the frame.
  • He himself should be on some recess from the side.
  • Only after the installation of the frame does the installation of the screen itself begin.

A little about sliding and removable options

Most often, acrylic bathtubs are equipped with removable screens. The latter are sometimes made of the same material, come in a kit, ready-made. These products are attractive appearance perfect for bathtubs. But they do not allow to fully use all the free space.

Choosing a plastic sliding screen for the bath

The design with external open shelves is one of the varieties of this model. Plastic is used for its manufacture, it is a convenient and practical option.

The material is also used in the production of finished structures. You can always choose an option that will have an end insert. The main thing is to purchase a model that clearly and accurately matches the size of the bath. Exact fit in place will have to be done in any case.

For blind structures best material becomes a brick. In the future, it is easy for him to make a lining. But in any case, it is important to provide for the presence of a technological opening so that there is always access to the main technological communications. The main thing is that even this detail should not stand out against the general background, fit into the existing interior. Other materials can be used, but this design is often quite complex.

The screen serves as a screen for communications connected to the bathroom. Under it, the legs of the bath, installed on linings, drains, sewer outlets, pipes, are perfectly hidden. But in addition to the functions associated with the aesthetics of space, the screen can perform another function. useful work. For example, to serve as a support for the stability of the bath or to be a closet for small things.

Acrylic bathtubs and other representatives of the latest generation of plumbing are often immediately equipped with a screen, ideal for hiding dark corners and communications. But what if the bath is old, and you don’t want to see its shabby sides every day? You can purchase a ready-made screen, and if you don’t want to spend money on a store option or you need a screen under the bathroom to 100 percent meet your requirements, you can make a screen under the bath with your own hands. Here are some ways to create a screen.

The screen providing access under the bathroom is made with sliding doors or with a built-in cabinet for household chemicals; may have vertically or horizontally opening cavities. It is advisable to equip vertical opening structures according to the principle of blinds or equip them with gas lifts and other fixtures that are well known to furniture makers.

Bath Screen Materials

Those materials that you will use in the bathroom should not be afraid of water and moisture, temperature changes. It is also important that they are not subject to rapid destruction from mold or fungus.

You can make the base of the screen from almost any building material, and then finish it on the outside to your liking. Used for cladding plastic panels or tiles.

Homemade screen options:

The fastest way is to cover the frame under the bathroom with MDF panels. Strips of plastic or MDF are biologically neutral and practical. These materials are easy to cut and fasten together.

After erection, the brick base will need to be sheathed and plastered or tiled on it. And before installing a wooden frame, the wood must be coated with a special impregnation to protect it from moisture.

plastic screen. MDF sheathing

A screen made of MDF or plastic lining will be the most simple option, which will allow you to immediately get a clean surface. The MDF screen is easy to disassemble, and plastic sheathing the most economical - if any part is damaged, it can be replaced.

Plastic for screening space is attached to the frame, for the formation of which is used wooden beam 40 by 40mm or metal profile. For wood, a moisture-resistant primer is required.

  1. Cutting MDF and plastic panels is carried out in advance. To work with plastic, it is convenient to use a cutter or a construction knife. The screen surface is assembled from panels, and where there should be a technological hole, a slot is made into which a grill or door is inserted.

In the finished plastic screen, it is also necessary to cut ventilation slots (on the side where there is no “window”). The recommended slot width is 3 by 5 cm. The ventilation hole is covered with a plastic grill.

Important! When installing a blank screen, make sure that all communications, access to which will block the screen, are in good condition.

Drywall based screen

The principle of the drywall screen is exactly the same as when working with plastic. First, markings are applied to the floor in the bathroom. Next, a frame is built from a metal profile or wood. But there is a significant difference: when installing the frame under drywall, you need to take into account that the finish also has a certain thickness. In particular, if it is planned to finish the screen with tiles, the frame must be “drowned” relative to the surface exactly at the distance that the finishing layer will occupy. If the front material does not affect the wall thickness, then the projection of the frame onto the floor is performed along a plumb line.

Second important point: for work in the bathroom, only special drywall is needed, protected from moisture. In places of the most likely contact with water, it should be additionally primed. Cutting sheets of drywall is carried out in accordance with the height of the screen, minus 2 cm.

It is necessary to fix the sheets, stepping back from the edge of the bath and from the floor by a centimeter, in order to prevent swelling of the gypsum sheet. Direct contact with moisture or a wet surface is contraindicated even for special drywall (recall, it is green).

For fastening sheets, black self-tapping screws are used, screwing them in every 15 cm along the top and bottom profile. Pay attention to the dimensions of the screws and the thickness of the profile: damage to the bath is not the best option for finishing work.

After the fastener is completed, the base of the screen must be primed in its entirety and sheathed with any material. It could be ceramic tile or finishing with moisture-resistant wallpaper, pasting with a film, decorative plaster. The voids at the floor and at the upper edge of the bath are filled with mounting foam.

To create a brick-based screen, you need to build a wall half a brick thick under the bathroom. During the initial marking, it is necessary to take into account the thickness of the brick + 2 cm of glue + the thickness of the tile, deepening the marks accordingly.

Masonry is carried out with the displacement of each next brick by half (by the way, you can also read about a brick bath with your own hands on our website). This will prevent the wall from collapsing. You need to leave a window for access to communications. The door to the technological opening is attached with the help of canopies. It is impossible for the wall being erected to be a support for the bathroom, since the top row of bricks should be 2-3 cm below the edge of the bathroom bowl. Mounting foam is poured into the gap, which seals the joint between the bowl and the wall.

Tile or plaster is suitable for sheathing a brick base.

The screen under the bath can be made as a drapery or close-fitting of fabric and other similar materials. The main thing is to choose quick-drying polyester fiber fabrics.

  1. Polyester materials serve well in a damp room.
  2. Fabrics with a membrane structure prevent the formation of fungus, allowing the space under the bath to be ventilated.
  3. Waterproof nylon materials - ideal for screen sheathing.
  4. A good solution is to cover the frame with artificial leather.
  5. It is acceptable to install panels with any finishing solutions that can withstand dampness.

For a triangular or corner bath, it is most convenient to make plastic or plasterboard shielding. The intricate shapes are perfectly adapted to the mosaic front decoration, which beautifully emphasizes the contour of the bowl. The installation of curved screens also begins with the erection of the frame and then the skin is adjusted in place, in accordance with the smooth lines and curves of the bath.

Installation of a finished screen or sliding doors

The finished screen is an acrylic shield or a plastic structure with two canvases that move in different directions. It is best to use the profile that comes with the screen for mounting. But self-made base frames are also acceptable. Also, do not forget to look at the installation instructions for the screen to know what methods it can be fixed with (liquid nails or self-tapping screws).

In order to rationally use every centimeter of the bathroom, designers suggest using a variety of cabinets, niches and shelves. But what about the space under the bathroom? Today, the article will focus on bath screens, their types, characteristics and cost.

What is a bath screen made of?

The function of such a screen is purely decorative, namely, to hide all unsightly communications located under the bathroom. In addition, you can use it rationally - as a place for storing household chemicals, for this you just need to provide special drawers and shelves.

There are many screen materials. Choose according to your taste, as well as cost:

Glass, mirrors and wood - almost any material can act as a screen for the bathroom, today we will consider the most practical of them.

What are screens?

The main types of screens include the following:

  • Ordinary. Made in the form of a plastic panel;
  • Universal. The same plastic panels, but in an aluminum frame
  • Frameless screens. The most economical option, installation is made under the bath
  • End. Can be done with or without a frame.

In addition, the design can provide sliding or opening doors, if you want to give it additional features storage of household items.

Laying a brick screen - do it yourself step by step

The process of laying a brick screen with your own hands consists of the following steps:

    First you need to prepare tools and materials. There is nothing complicated here, everything is the same as with ordinary masonry:

    • Cement;
    • Sand
    • Trowel;
    • Brick;
    • Plumb;
    • Level.
  • At the second stage, we perform preparatory work- do markup. In order for the tiled screen to be flush with the side of the bathtub, we draw a line on the floor using a plumb line - from the side to the floor.

    We retreat from the resulting line a distance equal to the width of the tile itself and the mortar on which it will be glued - this will be the edge of our brickwork. On vertical walls - we beat off the line at the same distance - and the marking is ready.

  • Actually, you can proceed to the masonry itself. It is produced in ½ brick, using a classic cement-sand mortar: 1: 3. As with conventional masonry, each subsequent row is placed with an offset of half a brick.
    • An important point: do not forget to leave a technical window - in the future, access to communications will be carried out through it.

      Separately, it is worth stopping at the niche for the legs. It is not necessary to do it, but such a small nuance will greatly facilitate the use of the bathroom, especially when you are bathing a child or animal. There are two options here - or just leave an opening the size of one or two rows of masonry, blocking it with steel strips to support the upper bricks.

      Or make an inclined wall - this requires certain skills, but it looks spectacular.

      Armed with a grinder, of course using a diamond wheel, we cut out the brick that we need for the side walls. Next, we lay the bricks using the dressing method, and if necessary, with the help of the same grinder, we make the top row flush with the rest of the walls.

      An important point: do not place the bath directly on the brick, leave a gap of 1-2 cm - and seal it with mounting sealant.

      The cost of materials will be about 700 rubles.

      After some time, we tile the screen with tiles, not forgetting to hang a door for our technical window - you can buy it ready-made, or make it yourself from a piece of aluminum.

      Drywall sheathing - step by step with your own hands

      When starting to make a drywall screen, you need to decide what material to make the frame from. There are two options here: wood or metal.

      As with laying bricks, in this embodiment, a niche can be provided.

      When installing drywall in the form of a solid screen, as in the first case, we mark up, and mount the guide profile along the lines obtained. Not close, so as not to transfer the weight of the bath to the structure, but with an indent of 1-2 cm from the side, we attach a horizontal profile. The resulting gap between the bath rim and the profile is filled with sealant or mounting foam.

      In order for the structure to be more resistant to deformation, more vertical profiles can be mounted.

      It's time to fix the drywall. To do this, take a solid sheet, and process its edges with a moisture-resistant sealant.

      Installation is done with self-tapping screws. Make sure that the edge of the drywall is closely adjacent to the edge of the tub.

      A variant of such a screen with an equipped niche differs only in a change in the frame in the lower part. If in the first case it was one piece of the profile. Now there will be three of them: two along the marking line that we applied from the side of the bath, and one for the niche. On both sides of the niche we make vertical guides at an angle - the frame is ready.

      When the frame is sheathed with drywall, we veneer it with tiles, using glue or liquid nails.

      Sheathing MDF, OSB - do it yourself step by step

      Installing MDF or OSB panels is practically no different from installing drywall. The only thing we pay attention to: all panels must be pre-treated with an antibacterial primer to avoid the appearance of fungus in the bathroom.

      And once again we remind you that you need to choose only moisture-resistant panels.

      The cost of the panels depends on the manufacturer and is 300 rubles. per sq. m.

      Screen made of plastic lining - do-it-yourself step by step

      If you do not want to think about whether your screen will become a victim of moisture or fungus, we recommend that you stop at the option of plastic lining. Firstly, the installation of this material is not difficult, and secondly, it is absolutely resistant to various deformations, and besides, it can be easily disassembled if you need access to the bathtub.

      So, as with the installation of any other panels, we need:

      • Profile (CD, UD; starting U-shaped plastic profile)
      • Self-tapping screws and dowels
      • The plastic panels.

      We mount with the help of sealant, along the perimeter of the screen - the starting profile, and we attach the panels to it, while not forgetting about the technical window.

      Another significant advantage of this material is that it does not need additional lining, there are a lot of color options, you can choose the one that fits into the interior and immediately use the bathroom. In addition, its cost is very attractive - from 150 rubles. per sq. m.

      Conclusions - which is better, cheaper, more reliable

      There are a lot of options and materials for decorating the space under the bathroom. Building a screen for a bath with your own hands is not difficult. The cost of materials is not high, but at work you can save a decent amount. After all, the installation of such a screen starts from 1500 rubles. depending on the selected option.

      Our advice is to choose materials that are easiest to work with: plastic or drywall.

      In addition, if you do not want to spend time and money on facing - the best choice- this is plastic, because thanks to the many colors, you can choose an option that will not only not be inferior to tiles, but also emphasize the design of your bathroom.
